    Abstract
Hydroxyapatite is the most important bio ceramic, due to its structure and chemical composition which is similar to bone. Since feeble fracture toughness, brittleness and low tensile strength have restricted their use, for overcoming this problem, they were often used as a secondary component. HAp-Al2O3 nano-composite powder combined the benefits of biocompatibility of HAp and high strength of Al2O3. When HAp-Al2O3 nano-composite powders were sintered at a higher temperature than 1100- 1200°C, HAp was decomposed and converted to the second phase of TCP, due to the formation of calcium aluminate increasing decomposition speed of HAp to TCP at higher degree than 1100-1200°C temperatures;...

    Abstract
The possible interactions near the triple-phase boundaries (TPB) metal/glass/air, and their effects on joint strength are investigated. Two types of samples (joined couples and glass coated coupons) are prepared with the coupon of AISI 430 (nickel plated and uncoated) and a slurry of compliant silicate sealing glass (SCN-1). The joined and coated samples are heated at 850 °C for 1000 h in air. The joined couples are cooled using two different schedules and then tested in uniaxial tension. For investigating the metal-oxides precipitation procedure in glass near the TPB, glass coated coupons are either cooled at the rate of 5 °C min−1 or water-quenched from aging temperature. The mechanical...

Photoconductivity and diode effect in Bi rich multiferroic BiFeO 3 thin films grown by pulsed-laser deposition

    , Article Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Electronics ; Volume 22, Issue 7 , 2011 , Pages 815-820 ; 09574522 (ISSN) Ahadi, K ; Mahdavi, S. M ; Nemati, A ; Kianinia, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Bismuth ferrite, BiFeO 3, is almost the only material that is simultaneously magnetic and a strong ferroelectric at room temperature. As a result it is the most investigated multiferroic material. In this study, bismuth ferrite thin films were deposited on silicon wafer (100) and glass by pulsed-laser deposition and their structural, optical, and electrical properties were measured. Our study indicates that Bi richness in these films can stimulate formation of oxygen vacancy in the system which in its turn leads to delocalization of carriers and a more intensified photoconductivity response. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed formation of BiFeO 3 (BFO), but it also showed formation of Bi 2O...

    Abstract
Inclusion of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) into the titanium dioxide coating on 1050 aluminium alloy was studied with the aim at enhancing the corrosion resistance of the surface. Composite coatings with various contents of CNTs were prepared via the sol-gel method and dip coating. XRD and FTIR phase and structural evaluations showed the presence of anatase phase in all thin films. Concomitant enhanced corrosion behaviour in the presence of CNTs was resulted from polarization potentiodynamic test. Band-gap evaluation was performed using absorbance spectra of coatings and showed considerable decrease of band-gap energy in the presence of CNTs. Photocatalytic properties and hydrophilicity of...

Directing the diffusive motion of fullerene-based nanocars using nonplanar gold surfaces

    , Article Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics ; Volume 20, Issue 1 , 2017 , Pages 332-344 ; 14639076 (ISSN) Nemati, A ; Nejat Pishkenari, H ; Meghdari, A ; Sohrabpour, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
A new method for guiding the motion of fullerene and fullerene-based nanocars is introduced in this paper. The effects of non-flat substrates on the motion of C60, a nanocar and a nanotruck are investigated at different conditions and temperatures. Their behavior is studied using two different approaches: analyzing the variation in potential energy and conducting all-atom classical molecular dynamics simulations. This paper proposes that the use of a stepped substrate will make their motion more predictable and controllable. The results of the simulations show that C60 stays on the top side of the step and cannot jump over the step at temperatures of 400 K and lower. However, at temperatures...

    Abstract
The rotational and translational motions of nanocars and nanotrucks as well as their motion regimes at different temperatures are investigated. In recent years, few similar types of molecular machines have been simulated. In contrast to previous studies, which have used the Rigid-Body Molecular Dynamics (RBMD) method, an all-atom model and classic atomistic dynamics have been employed in this paper to achieve better accuracy. Our results demonstrated that the exibility of the chassis and its attachment to the gold surface played an important role in the motion of a nanocar. In fact, a heavier and more exible nanocar chassis reduces its speed compared to a nanotruck. In addition, the results...

    Abstract
In the present work, G-TiO2 and G-ODA-TiO2 hybrids were prepared by concurrent surface functionalization and reducing of graphene oxide (GO) using octadecylamine (ODA). The G-TiO2 and G-ODA-TiO2 powders were deposited on the copper surface by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) technique. The wettability of coatings revealed the preferable hydrophobic characteristic of G-ODA-TiO2 compared to G-TiO2 and bare copper with water contact angles of 130°, 101°, and 87°, respectively. The anti-corrosion performance of specimens in a 0.5 M H2SO4 solution was appraised by the potentiodynamic polarization (Tafel analysis), which clearly showed that G-TiO2 and G-ODA-TiO2 coatings can act as a great barrier...
