    Abstract
By the advancement in technology on one side, and governmental as well as social demands for lowest rate of driving accidents and reliable communication among vehicles on the other side, particularly in highways, vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) are of special interest as a reliable approach to this aim. VANET is typically defined as the communication network for wireless communicating between vehicles in a region. One of the most important challenges in such networks is reliable routing of data packages among the vehicle users. Several VANET routing topologies are published in the literature; however, there is still a lack of reliable scheme. This is due to the nature of users behaviour...

    Abstract
In this study, a composite patch repair will be designed for an aluminum plate with a central crack placed at 45 degrees to the applied unidirectional tensile load carried by the plate. In this state, the condition of loading is mixed mode. In the first step, behavior of the crack repaired by the composite patch under the applied tensile load is simulated by using ABAQUS commercial software. The crack growth process is modeled with the extended finite element method (XFEM) and the cohesive zone model (CZM) is used to model any damage progression in the adhesive of the composite patch repair. The shape of the five layer composite patch is assumed to be elliptical. For design optimization, the...

    Abstract
Motivated by applications of sensor networks, there has been growing interest in monitoring large scale distributed systems. In these applications, we usually wish to monitor a global system condition defined as a function of local network elements parameters. In this paper, we study Reactive Monitoring in sensor networks, which has the benefit of operating in a decentralized manner. Our primary concern in adopting such a monitoring paradigm is reducing the communication cost which is the dominant factor of energy drain in wireless sensor networks. In this study, we address the reactive aggregate monitoring problem by casting the underlying threshold assignment as an optimization problem....

Distributed power allocation for OFDM wireless ad-hoc networks based on average consensus

    , Article 10th IEEE Singapore International Conference on Communications Systems, ICCS 2006, Singapore, 30 October 2006 through 1 November 2006 ; 2006 ; 1424404118 (ISBN); 9781424404117 (ISBN) Talebi, M. S ; Khalaj, B. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2006
    Abstract
This paper addresses the problem of optimal power allocation in multiuser OFDM ad-hoc networks. Our objective is to maximize the weighted rate-sum of users under total transmit power constraint. Maximizing a weighted rate-sum is more amenable whereas appropriate weight assignment to different users, guarantees fairness among users. We propose a distributed algorithm for optimal power allocation based on reaching a consensus among users for power allocation. The proposed algorithm is tractable in the sense of computational complexity and requires only local information at each node. Simulation results and the analysis of the algorithm are presented to support the proposed idea. © 2006 IEEE

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talebi, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Vakilian, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The severe wildfires in California, Australia, Canada, and Iran have interrupted the power system operation, caused multiple blackouts, took many lives, and caused damages to power grid infrastructure to the extent of millions and billions of dollars. Most of the recent wildfires occur in the distribution system. Therefore, enhancing power system distribution resilience against wildfire is crucial. To this end, two groups of measures are proposed: the hardening of the power network and the operational measures. The past published papers mainly studied the resilience enhancement strategies against wildfire from an operational perspective. There is a considerable gap between the past works...

In copper electrorefining process, some additives are added to the electrolyte to improve the morphology of cathode deposits as well as the quality of products. In the present investigation, the effects of thiourea, glue and chloride ions (as additives) on the passivation of industrial copper anodes under high current densities have been reported. Experiments were conducted at 65 °C; using a synthetic electrolyte containing 40 g/l Cu2+ and 160 g/l H2SO4. Results obtained from chronopotentiometry experiments showed that increasing the concentration of chloride ion leads to increase in passivation time. The results also indicated that from a certain level on, namely 2 ppm, the increase in...

Redicting Information Reshare by People on Twitter

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ranjbar, Milad (Author) ; Raeisi, Sadegh (Supervisor) ; Ghanbarnejad, Fakhteh (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we attempt to construct a model that can predict whether someone will retweet a tweet. For this purpose, we construct a machine learning model and we use Twitter’s network features as our model’s input. We collect about 1300 random tweets and their retweets to make retweet cascades. By collecting or calculating users’ features in each retweet cascade, we construct our desired input data for our model. We test both random forest and neural networks as our machine learning section of the model. Random forest is the most accurate of the two models, predicting retweet actions with an accuracy of 0.89. Additionally, we find out that two features of the network have the greatest...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Abdollahi, Mahdi (Author) ; Rahvar, Sohrab (Supervisor) ; Raeisi, Sadegh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The importance of using a fast and automatic method to classify variable stars for large amounts of data is undeniable. There have been many attempts for classifying variable stars by traditional algorithms, which require long pre-processing time. In recent years, neural networks as classifiers have come to notice. This thesis proposes the Hierarchical Classification technique, which contains several models with the same network structure. Our pre-processing method produces input data by using light curves and the period. We use OGLE-IV variable stars database to train and test the performance of Convolutional Neural Networks based on the Hierarchical Classification technique. We see that...

Benchmarking of Optimal Control Theory Techniques

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taherpour, Saba (Author) ; Raeisi, Sadegh (Supervisor) ; Baghram, Shant (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
There are different approaches for implementing quantum gates as the main elements of quantum computers. In this thesis, we use the quantum optimal control approach to implement quantum gates. For this purpose, we use the two common methods of optimization, Krotov and second-order GRAPE of L-BFGS-B type to implement gates. First, we implement three gates X, CNOT and TOffoli, using both methods, and then, in order to compare and benchmark these methods, we also investigate a number of one, two, and three-qubit random gates. It is essential to implement and simulate high-quality gates in the shortest possible time. Therefore, in this thesis, we compare and benchmark the optimization execution...

Quantum Communication of Relative Parameters in the Absence of Shared Reference Frame

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Beheshti, Ali (Author) ; Karimipour, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Raeisi, Sadegh (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Behind almost all of the communication protocols and quantum information processing tasks, there is the assumption of existence of a shared reference frame between the parties. However, it is interesting to ask whether it is really necessitated to have a shared reference frame in order to succeed in these tasks. In this thesis, after investigating the effect of the absence of shared reference frame, classical and quantum communication in the absence of shared frame via spin ./5 particles are reviewed. Then, the concepts of relative and collective parameters of composite systems are discussed and the relative parameters of a general pure two qubit state are characterized. Finally, certain...

Optimization of the Combination of Teleportation Entanglement Witnesses in Two-Qubit systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Farahmand, Zahra (Author) ; Raeisi, Sadegh (Supervisor) ; Karimipour, Vahid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Entanglement is one of the quantum resources that has crucial applications in many quantum tasks such as quantum teleportation, quantum key distribution, and quantum computations. Therefore, identifying entangled states is of great importance to us. There are various methods for distinguishing entangled states from separable states; however, each method is applicable under specific conditions or for special quantum states. One of these methods is measuring an observable, which, if its expectation value is negative, indicates the entanglement of the state; otherwise, it shows its separability. These observables are called entanglement witnesses, and for every entangled state, there exists at...

    Abstract
Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is one of the widely used multiplexing techniques in wireless communications and especially cognitive radio networks. One of the key challenges of this technique is its high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmitted signal. This paper, introduces a new approach to PAPR reduction of OFDM signals using harmony search algorithm (HSA) based on the partial transmit sequence (PTS) method. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has better PAPR reduction performance as an accurate and low complexity approach for OFDM systems

    Abstract
Hereby a simple, low-cost and scalable route is being presented for preparation of binder-free electrodes of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) on Ni foam (Ni/Gr). In this regard, the Ni foams are dipped in graphene oxide (GO) slurry. Next, the GO loaded Ni foams are kept in a freeze dryer for 24 h and heated up to 800 °C in an inert atmosphere. In this approach, the amount of active materials can be easily optimized for capacitive deionization (CDI). The characterization of Ni/Gr electrodes revealed a 3D porous assembly of RGO on Ni substrate which is helpful for the fast ion diffusion and rapid electron transport. The electrochemical performance of the prepared electrodes is investigated in both...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talebi Habibabadi, Sajjad (Author) ; Naghdabadi, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Optical metasurfaces are 2D structures of a repetitive arrangement of a number of nanoparticles that are artificially constructed and do not exist in nature. Important applications of optical metasurfaces are meta lenses, flexible solar cells and extremely small antennas. Fabricating surfaces with nanoparticles of proper geometry under light radiation along with elastic deformation, we can have optical metasurfaces with selective reflection or transparency in the visible spectrum. The aim of this project is modeling of an optical metasurface with elastic deformation leading to change of color and transparency. For this purpose, assuming vertical light radiation and linear polarization, we...
