    Abstract
In this work, the preparation of a new grafted nanosilica-based sorbent was extensively investigated. An inexpensive modifier, cis-9-octadecenoic acid (oleic acid) was selected to be grafted on the surface of the nanosilica particles as the support. The grafting process was accurately confirmed by Fourier transform infra-red spectrometry (FT-IR). Applicability of the prepared sorbent was thoroughly examined by needle trap extraction (NTE) method. The grafted sorbent was dispersed in the appropriate solvent and carefully packed inside a steel needle. Feasibility of the method was completely examined using polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), as model compounds. For extraction of analytes...

    Abstract
Binary blends of recycled high-density polyethylene (R-HDPE) with poly(ethylene terephthalate) (R-PET) and recycled polystyrene (R-PS), as well as the ternary blends, i.e. R-HDPE/R-PET/R-PS, with varying amounts of the constituents were prepared by twin screw extruder. The mechanical, rheological, thermal, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses were utilized to characterize the samples. The results revealed that both R-HDPE/R-PET and R-HDPE/R-PS blends show phase inversion but at different compositions. The R-PET was found to have much higher influence on the properties enhancement of the R-HDPE compared to R-PS, but at the phase inverted situation, a significant loss in the tensile...

Cure Kinetics of Nanodiamond-Filled Epoxy Resin: Influence of Nanodiamond Surface Functionality

    , Article Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research ; Volume 54, Issue 36 , August , 2015 , Pages 8954-8962 ; 08885885 (ISSN) Aris, A ; Shojaei, A ; Bagheri, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    American Chemical Society  2015
    Abstract
Thermally oxidized nanodiamond (OND), amine-functionalized ND (AND) and untreated ND (UND) were added to epoxy/TETA at 1 wt % loading. The ND enhanced the dynamic storage modulus of epoxy while decreasing the glass transition temperature because of the increment of free volume in the vicinity of the ND surfaces. The ND induced an acceleration effect on the curing reaction which could be due to functional groups of the ND and lack of any steric hindrance on molecules by the ND particles themselves. The Vyazovkin model-free isoconversional method indicated that all NDs decreased the activation energy; among them, AND showed the lowest value because of the significant promotion of the epoxide...

On the forcing dimension of a graph

    Abstract
A set W ⊆ V (G) is called a resolving set, if for each two distinct vertices u, v ∈ V (G) there exists w ∈ W such that d(u, w) ≠ d(v, w), where d(x, y) is the distance between the vertices x and y. A resolving set for G with minimum cardinality is called a metric basis. The forcing dimension f(G, dim) (or f(G)) of G is the smallest cardinality of a subset S ⊂ V (G) such that there is a unique basis containing S. The forcing dimensions of some well-known graphs are determined. In this paper, among some other results, it is shown that for large enough integer n and all integers a, b with 0 ≤ a ≤ b ≤ n and b ≥ 1, there exists a nontrivial connected graph G of order n with f(G) = a and dim(G) =...

Characterization of polyamide 6/carbon nanotube composites prepared by melt mixing-effect of matrix molecular weight and structure

    , Article Composites Part B: Engineering ; Volume 78 , 2015 , Pages 50-64 ; 13598368 (ISSN) Faghihi, M ; Shojaei, A ; Bagheri, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2015
    Abstract
Effects of molecular weight and structure of polyamide 6 (PA6) on morphology and properties of PA6/MWCNT prepared by melt mixing were investigated. Microscopic analysis showed fine dispersion of MWCNT within low viscosity PA6s due to domination of melt infiltration into MWCNT agglomerate at low viscosity matrices with linear structure. Rheological data indicated good interfacial interaction with no percolation of MWCNT up to 2 wt% loading. DSC thermograms showed nucleating role of MWCNT on crystallization of PA6s with marginal effect on crystallinity. Experimental data supported with micromechanical model showed limited improvement on mechanical properties, but it was closely consistent with...

    Abstract
Periodic metallic structures are known to support resonant extraordinary optical transmission (EOT). When covered with graphene, these structures can be employed to effectively manipulate the light. In this paper, we propose an analytical circuit model for graphene-covered 1-D metallic gratings. By using the circuit theory, we demonstrate that 1-D periodic array of cut-through slits, which are covered by a continuous graphene sheet, exhibits tunable EOT resonance for TM polarization whose amplitude, unlike its spectral position, can be dynamically tuned by varying the Fermi level of graphene. In this fashion, it is shown that placing a perfect reflector at the bottom of the graphene-covered...

    Elsevier B.V  2020
    Abstract
Here, a three dimensional nickel–based metal organic framework (MOF) was synthesized via solvothermal and room temperature protocols. In order to study the effects of the synthesis conditions on the physical properties such as pore sizes and shapes of the prepared MOFs, their extraction capabilities were examined. Both MOFs were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller and thermogravimetric analyses. Brilliant properties such as porous structure, high surface area and considerable thermal stability make them reasonable candidates to be employed as efficient extractive phases. The efficiency of the...

Graphene-mediated self-assembly of gold nanorods into long fibers with controllable optical properties

    , Article Materials Letters ; Volume 224 , 2018 , Pages 13-17 ; 0167577X (ISSN) Bagheri, P ; Farivar, M ; Simchi, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2018
    Abstract
The paper presents graphene-templated self-assembly of gold nanorods into long fibers with controllable optical properties. It is shown that the size of self-assembled nanostructures varies with time and is controlled by chemical reactions between amine groups of graphene and the functional groups of gold. The absorption peak of the nanostructures changes over time while the photoluminescence intensity is quenched. The self-assembled nanostructures with variable plasmon resonance effects are potentially usable for the fabrication of nanoscale devices for biomedical applications. © 2018 Elsevier B.V

    Abstract
A fiber coating from polyaniline (PANI) was electrochemically prepared and employed for solid phase microextraction (SPME) of some polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from water samples. The PANI film was directly electrodeposited on the platinum wire surface in sulfuric acid solution using cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. The applicability of this coating was assessed employing a laboratory-made SPME device and gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for the extraction of some PAHs from the headspace of aqueous samples. Application of wider potential range in CV led to a PANI with more stability against the temperature. The homogeneity and the porous surface structure of the...

    Abstract
The rheological behaviour of powder injection moulding feedstock comprising of 316L stainless steel and 3 wt-%TiC powders was studied using a capillary rheometer. The flowability and the sensitivity of viscosity to shear rate and temperature of the feedstock were investigated and compared with those of the binder system and the 316L SS PIM feedstock. The general rheological indexes were examined through relevant equations and the influence of TiC addition on the mouldability of the 316L SS feedstock was determined. It was found that all the feedstocks are basically pseudoplastic but the values of flow behaviour index n are influenced by the TiC addition, the solid volume fraction and the...

    Abstract
An experimental rheological study has been performed to evaluate the influence of TiC addition on the rheological behavior and stability of 316L stainless steel powder injection molding (PIM) feedstock. The effects of TiC concentration, solid loading, shear rate and temperature were investigated via capillary rheometer method. The stability of feedstocks was evaluated quantitatively using "instability index", which describes the threshold beyond which the variation of viscosity becomes unacceptable for PIM purposes. The results show that the rheological behavior of PIM feedstocks highly depends on the blend composition. The addition of TiC particles to the stainless steel powder increases...

    Abstract
An immersed single drop microextraction (SDME) method was successfully developed for the trace enrichment of formaldehyde from DTP and DT vaccines and diphtheria-tetanus antigen. The formaldehyde was derivatized by means of the Hantzsch reaction. The dehydropyridine derivative was extracted into a microdrop of chloroform that suspended in a 4 ml sample solution for a preset time. The microdrop was then retracted into the microsyringe and injected directly into a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) injection port. Effects of different parameters such as the type of solvent, extraction time, stirring rate, and temperature were studied and optimized. The limit of detection was 0.22...
