    Abstract
The design of a power-efficient second-order Δ/∑ modulator for voice-band is presented. At system level, a new single-loop, single-stage modulator is proposed. The modulator employs only one class-AB op-amp to realize a second-order noise shaping for voice-band applications. The modulator is designed in a 0.25μm standard CMOS process, and exhibits 86 dB dynamic range (DR) for a 4 kHz voice-bandwidth. The proposed modulator consumes 125μW from a 2.5 V supply. © Springer Science + Business Media, LLC 2006

    Abstract
The Nafion ionomer affects the efficiency of the platinum (Pt) catalyst by blocking the active sites thereby restricting the gas permeability of the catalyst layer; but, there is a limitation in the quantity of Nafion ionomer that needs to be added without affecting the cell performance. Sulfonation of carbon-supported catalysts as mixed electronic and protonic conductors has been reported to be an efficient way to increase the triple-phase boundaries. In order to improve the utilization and activity of cathodic catalysts in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), Pt nanoparticles were loaded on a mixture of Vulcan XC-72R and MWCNTs, which were functionalized in a mixture of 96% sulfuric acid...

On the largest eigenvalue of signed unicyclic graphs

    , Article Linear Algebra and Its Applications ; Volume 581 , 2019 , Pages 145-162 ; 00243795 (ISSN) Akbari, S ; Belardo, F ; Heydari, F ; Maghasedi, M ; Souri, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Signed graphs are graphs whose edges get signs ±1 and, as for unsigned graphs, they can be studied by means of graph matrices. Here we focus our attention to the largest eigenvalue, also known as the index of the adjacency matrix of signed graphs. Firstly we give some general results on the index variation when the corresponding signed graph is perturbed. Also, we determine signed graphs achieving the minimal or the maximal index in the class of unbalanced unicyclic graphs of order n≥3. © 2019

    Abstract
In this study, we present results of a mathematical model in which the governing equations of electroforming process were solved using a robust finite element solver (COMSOL Multiphysics). The effects of different parameters including applied current density, solution electrical conductivity, electrode spacing, and anode height on the copper electroforming process have been investigated. An electroforming experiment using copper electroforming cell was conducted to verify the developed model. The obtained results show that by increasing the applied current density, the electroforming process takes place faster, thereby resulting in a higher thickness of the electroformed layer. In addition,...

    Abstract
The objective of this paper is to provide optimization of falling film Li/Br solution on a horizontal single tube based on minimization of entropy generation. Flow regime is considered to be laminar, the effect of boiling has been ignored and wall temperature is constant. Velocity, temperature and concentration distributions are numerically determined and dimensionless correlations are obtained for predicting the average heat transfer coefficient and average evaporation factor on the horizontal tube. Thermodynamic imperfection due to passing lithium bromide solution is attributed to non-isothermal heat transfer; fluid flow friction and mass transfer irreversibility. Scale analysis shows that...

    Abstract
In this paper, heat and mass transfer phenomena occurring simultaneously in falling film generator of absorption chillers have been studied. The analysis is based on the laminar flow of an Li/Br solution over a horizontal single tube and tube bundle having a constant tube wall temperature. The effect of boiling has been ignored. An extensive numerical code is provided to calculate the heat transfer coefficient and the rate of evaporation. A parametric study is performed on the coefficient of heat transfer and the evaporation flux of the refrigerant. Dimensionless correlations are obtained to calculate the heat transfer coefficient on the horizontal tube and tube bundle. The comparison...

    Abstract
A new wearable assistive device (WAD) was developed to decrease required force on the lumbar spine in static holding tasks. In order to obtain moments on lumbar spine in two conditions, with and without WAD, a biomechanical static model was used for estimation of external moments on lumbar spine. The results of biomechanical models indicated that there was a reduction in the lumbar moment ranging from 20% to 43% using WAD depending on the load and flexion angle. A total of 15 male healthy subjects were tested to experimentally verify the predicted reduction of external moments on the spine by wearing WAD. Normalized electromyography (EMG) of the right and left lumbar and thoracic erector...

A novel model for wellbore stability analysis during reservoir depletion

    , Article Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering ; 2016 , Pages 935-943 ; 18755100 (ISSN) ; Volume 35, Issue Part A Behnoud far, P ; Hassani, A. H ; Al Ajmi, A. M ; Heydari, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2016
    Abstract
It is not common to build a geomechanical model for depleted reservoirs as logging and coring are costly and time consuming in such reservoirs. On the other hand, in regular analysis of wellbore stability, the effect of time is completely ignored. As a result, with time there will be some errors in the evaluation of wellbore stability in depleted reservoirs. In order to determine the optimum wellbore trajectory during the reservoir life, it is necessary to have a model which can estimate the rock properties based on the first full logging suite and also consider the depletion effect. In this study, a novel model is proposed which combines a mechanical earth model, borehole circumferential...

    Abstract
The aim of this study is to employ feedback control loops to provide a stable forward dynamics simulation of human movement under repeated position constraint conditions in the environment, particularly during stair climbing. A ten-degrees-of-freedom skeletal model containing 18 Hill-type musculotendon actuators per leg was employed to simulate the model in the sagittal plane. The postural tracking and obstacle avoidance were provided by the proportional—integral—derivative controller according to the modulation of the time rate change of the joint kinematics. The stability of the model was maintained by controlling the velocity of the body's centre of mass according to the desired centre of...

    Abstract
N-annulated perylene based materials show outstanding and tunable optical and physical properties, making them suitable to be charge transport materials for optoelectronic applications. However, this type of materials has so far not been well studied in solar cells. Here, we develop a new hole transport material (HTM), namely S5, based on perylene building block terms, for organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells (PSCs). We have systematically studied the influences of the film thickness of S5 on their photovoltaic performance, and a low concentration of S5 with a thinner HTM film is favorable for obtaining higher solar cell efficiency. S5 shows excellent energy alignment with...

    Abstract
Antisolvent crystallization is known as an effective approach for the deposition of pinhole-free solution-processed perovskite layers for high-performance solar cells. Here, we introduce a modified antisolvent dripping method by adding tetra ethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) into chlorobenzene as a conventional antisolvent. Through TEOS modification, perovskite solar cells show efficiencies as high as 16% with more than 85% retention after 290 h storage at ambient conditions in comparison to 20% in pristine cells. This significant enhancement in efficiency and stability mainly related to the decrement of the density of surface defects, which is confirmed by considerably enhanced photoluminescence...

    Abstract
In the past few decades, shaking tables are widely used to evaluate system response of structures under seismic excitations. These devices are used without any fundamental research performed on a shaking table system as an entity model. In most of these studies for simplicity, it is assumed that there exist no considerable vibration and displacement around the shaking tables, and no attention is paid to the peripheral substances such as soil settled under the foundation.
In this thesis, result of ambient vibration test on shaking table system (solid deck, concrete foundation and soil layer) has been presented. Precise sensors known as low frequency and high accuracy accelerometers have...
