    Abstract
Abstract Three-axis magnetometers (TAMs) have been widely utilized as the cornerstone of integrated navigation (IN) and attitude determination (AD) in many aerospace systems. However, accurate navigation and AD demands for precise calibration of TAM. For this purpose, a complete TAM calibration process is presented in the current research to compensate all of the key errors. In this regard, a hyper least square (HyperLS) estimator is extended for accurate and consistent ellipsoid fitting problem of TAM calibration. Subsequently, the calibrated TAM is utilized for real time attitude determination via nonlinear colored noise filters of extended Kalman filter, simplex unscented Kalman filter...

    Abstract
Nonlinear state estimation algorithms developed based on Bayesian framework have been increasingly utilized in space navigation and attitude estimation to enhance the mission performance. However, successful implementation of these algorithms requires accurate knowledge of process and measurement noise statistical properties. As the satellites experience various systematic and environmental uncertainties on orbit, no priori information of noise characteristics is usually available. In this regard, adaptive estimation algorithms have been widely utilized to tune the planned noise properties according to the variable working conditions. Among various adaptation methods, innovation-based...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shakouri, Amir (Author) ; Pourtakdoust, Hossein (Supervisor) ; Kiani, Maryam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Traditionally, orbital maneuvers are obtained according to mission cost, time and several constraints. This thesis considers the use of covariance as a measure of uncertainties in the design of orbit maneuvers. The ideal solution in the proposed method is the maneuver that obtains the minimum uncertainty at the desired times in presence of the mission constraints. In this thesis two impulsive orbit maneuver schemes, based on shaping method and sequential lambert solutions, are developed and has been analyzed under uncertainties. Moreover, a novel rendezvous design methodology is proposed in order to minimize the covariace trace at the impulse locations, considering several constraints...

    Abstract
Shock Control Bump (SCB) reduces the wave drag in transonic ight. To control the boundary layer separation and to reduce the wave drag for two transonic airfoils, RAE-2822 and NACA-64A010, we investigate the application of two flow control methods, i.e. suction and blowing, to add them to the SCB. An adjoint gradient-based optimization algorithm is used to find the optimum shape and location of SCB. The performance of both Hybrid Suction/SCB (HSS) and Hybrid Blowing/SCB (HBS) is a function of the sucked or injected mass flow rate and their position. A parametric study is performed to find the near optimum values of the aerodynamic coefficients and efficiency. A RANS solver is validated and...

    , Article Fluid Phase Equilibria ; Volume 339 , 2013 , Pages 72-80 ; 03783812 (ISSN) Chamkalani, A ; Amani, M ; Kiani, M. A ; Chamkalani, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Due to problems followed by asphaltene deposition, which cause many remedial processes and costs, it seemed necessary to develop equations for determining asphaltene precipitation quantitatively or qualitatively. In this study a new scaling equation as a function of temperature, molecular weight, and dilution ratio (solvent) has been developed. This equation can be used to determine the weight percent of precipitated asphaltene in the presence of different precipitants (solvents). The proposed methodology utilizes least square support vector machines/regression (LSSVM/LSSVR) to perform nonlinear modeling. This paper proposes a new feature selection mechanism based on coupled simulated...

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 500, Issue 1 , June , 2010 , Pages 129-133 ; 09258388 (ISSN) Shayesteh Zeraati, A ; Naser Zoshki, H ; Kiani Rashid, A.R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Microstructures and hardness of aluminum alloy ductile iron were investigated by SEM, XRD, EPMA and hardness measurement techniques. The results show, increasing the Al-alloying element leads to decrease of free ferrite and carbide, as well as increase in the pearlite volume fraction. It is also has been found that in the higher values of Al, about 85% of the matrix would be pearlite. It is indicated that an increase in the aluminum content also leads to a decrease in the spacing between pearlite layers. XRD results show, in the presence of Al, intermetallic compounds such as Al6Fe, AlFe3C0.5, Fe3Al and FeAl were produced. Furthermore the hardness measurements illustrate that by increasing...

    Abstract
The design and implementation of the hybrid control method for a three-pole active magnetic bearing (AMB) is proposed in this paper. The system is inherently nonlinear and conventional nonlinear controllers are a little complicated while the proposed hybrid controller has a piecewise linear form, i.e., linear in each sub-region. A state-feedback hybrid controller is designed in this study and the unmeasurable states are estimated by an observer. The gains of the hybrid controller are obtained by the LQR method in each sub-region. To evaluate the performance, the designed controller is implemented on an experimental setup. The experimental results show that the proposed method can efficiently...

    Abstract
A shock control bump (SCB) is a flow control method which uses local small deformations in a flexible wing surface to considerably reduce the strength of shock waves and the resulting wave drag in transonic flows. Most of the reported research is devoted to optimization in a single flow condition. Here, we have used a multi-point adjoint optimization scheme to optimize shape and location of the SCB. Practically, this introduces transonic airfoils equipped with the SCB which are simultaneously optimized for different off-design transonic flight conditions. Here, we use this optimization algorithm to enhance and optimize the performance of SCBs in two benchmark airfoils, i.e., RAE-2822 and...
