    Abstract
Fulfilment of the underlying structure within an indivisible system which leads to a specific pattern of behaviour was previously addressed by prominent approaches. However, there was a considerable lack for proposal of a proper idea that considers the susceptibility of structures to change with time through other adjacent structures. Considering such a point of view necessitates an alternative approach to functional perspective. Thus, a process-oriented architectural decomposition of a simplified organization structure embedded in a supply chain is applied to analyse the structure dynamics. This novel perspective to dynamic multi-structure systems is introduced in this research and the...

Property change during fixtured sintering of NiTi memory alloy

    , Article Materials and Manufacturing Processes ; Volume 21, Issue 1 , 2006 , Pages 87-96 ; 10426914 (ISSN) Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Lashkari, O ; Sharif University of Technology
    2006
    Abstract
Fixtured sintering of up to 5 hours at 1223 to 1323 K is successfully used to diminish the dimensional change of NiTi memory alloys produced from mixtures of elemental Ni and Ti powders packed and pressed at room temperature under 400, 500, and 600 MPa pressure. The improvements obtained can help near-net-shape technology via powder metallurgy that overcomes the traditional casting problems such as oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, and carbon absorption and intermetallic compound precipitation, which lower the workability and the homogeneity of the final alloy. The effects of compaction pressure, sintering time, and sintering temperature on dimensional change, porosity, hardness, and morphology of...

Hybrid meta-heuristic algorithms for solving network design problem

    , Article European Journal of Operational Research ; Volume 182, Issue 2 , 2007 , Pages 578-596 ; 03772217 (ISSN) Poorzahedy, H ; Rouhani, O. M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
Network design problem has been, and is, an important problem in transportation. Following an earlier effort in designing a meta-heuristic search technique by an ant system, this paper attempts to hybridize this concept with other meta-heuristic concepts such as genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, and tabu search. Seven hybrids have been devised and tested on the network of Sioux Falls. It has been observed that the hybrids are more effective to solve the network design problem than the base ant system. Application of the hybrid containing all four concepts on a real network of a city with over 2 million population has also proved to be more effective than the base network, in the sense...

    Abstract
Relativistic electrons produced in ultra-intense laser-solid interaction generate highly collimated γ-ray beams through Bremsstrahlung that can be used to induce photonuclear reactions. Photonuclear transmutation (of (γ,n) type) of 137Cs, one of the hazardous nuclear wastes with half-life of 30.17 years which cannot be transmuted practically with neutron bombardment due to its very low neutron capture cross section, has been considered. Nuclear activity of produced 136Cs with half-life of 13.16 days has been evaluated analytically using available experimental data. With irradiating a 137Cs sample by p-polarized laser light of 10 20Wcm-2 and the repetition rate of 10Hz for 30min, the activity...

    Abstract
In this investigation, we have studied the elemental diffusion coefficients of the Cu/Ta and Ta/Si interfaces in the Cu/Ta/Si(1 1 1) structure. The diffusion parameters for Cu diffusion into the Ta barrier layer, Ta diffusion into the Si substrate and diffusion of Si atoms into the Ta layer have been calculated using conversion of RBS data to concentration-depth profile curves and the solution of Fick's equation based on a constant diffusing amount boundary conditions. Furthermore, by calculating grain boundary diffusion coefficients, we have estimated grain boundary slabs of the Ta layer at different temperatures. It was shown that, the width of grain boundary slabs in the Ta layer at 700°C...

    Abstract
In this investigation, we have studied the effect of negative bias voltage on the properties of a sputtered Ta layer deposited at high Ar pressure (13.3 Pa) which is used as a diffusion barrier in a Cu/Ta/Si structure focusing on its silicidation process. According to Rutherford backscattering spectrometry, the Cu(85 nm)/Ta(100 nm, unbiased)/Si(111) structure was found to be stable up to 300°C in a N2 environment for 30 min. At a temperature of 450°C, TaSi2 was formed at the Ta/Si(111) interface, and the Ta diffusion barrier completely failed. By applying various negative bias voltages ranging from 0 to -150 V, an optimum bias voltage of Vb = -50 V for the sputtered Ta layer was found from...

    Abstract
Perovskite solar cells have been constructed under the standard procedure by employing soluble tetratriphenylamine-substituted Zn phthalocyanine as hole transporting material. Solution processed device construction was carried out under ambient conditions of 50–60% ambient humidity. Triphenylamine substitution played the double role of imparting solubility to the core metal phthalocyanine as well as to introduce electron-rich ligands, which could enhance the role of Zn phthalocyanine as hole transporter. Indeed, the obtained material was functional. The present data highlight tetratriphenylamine-substituted Zn phthalocyanine as hole transporting material but also highlight the importance of...

    Abstract
Soils are usually weak in tension therefore different materials such as geosynthetics are used to address this inadequacy. Worldwide annual consumption of geosynthetics is close to 1000 million m2, and the value of these materials is probably close to US$1500 million. Since the total cost of the construction is at least four or five times the cost of the geosynthetic itself, the impact of these materials on civil engineering construction is very large indeed. Nevertheless, there are several significant problems associated with geosynthetics, such as creep, low modulus of elasticity, and susceptibility to aggressive environment. Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) was introduced over two...
