    Abstract
MNEs employ a global strategy to achieve growth, whereas their subsidiaries use a local strategy to operate effectively in host countries. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is an effective strategy adopted by MNEs to develop a legitimate image in host countries. In fact, stakeholders' concerns in different countries and industries should be attended by MNEs and their subsidiaries. MNEs use social media to communicate with stakeholders and disclose their CSR activities. This study highlighted the importance of this context. In other words, stakeholders in different countries and industries react totally differently to Twitter posts. Therefore, MNEs should not communicate and interact with...

Recognition and the Nature of Self-consciousness in Fichte and Hegel

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shokrollahnia Roshan, Majid (Author) ; Abazari, Arash (Supervisor)
    Abstract
For both Fichte and Hegel, self-consciousness is an intersubjective concept; that is, for them, self-consciousness is necessarily constituted between, at least, two subjects. In Foundations of Natural Right, Fichte introduces summons and recognition as necessary conditions of self-consciousness, without which, i.e. an other who is calling upon the subject, the subject cannot be conscious at all. Hegel, in Phenomenology of Spirit, also says self-consciousness is desire which is satisfied only in another (self-) consciousness. Based on these ideas, I try to show that self-consciousness can be defined as having the both in view; the self (I) and the other (not-I), at the same time. In this...

    Abstract
According to official statistics, family businesses form the majority of businesses around the world. When we talk about businesses, we are more likely to say that those firms face issues related to family businesses. One of the trending topics that has recently been considered by researchers and a lot of research has been done in this regard, is specific issues related to marketing and branding of family businesses. In this study, we tried to examine the family business brand in terms of reputation. Reputation is the perception in the minds of brand stakeholders about the brand and the organization. So we tried to take as fair and accurate a sample as possible, to seek the opinions of...

    “Adorno’s concept of experience”

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moosavi Ramezanzadeh, Behrad (Author) ; Abazari, Arash (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The concept of "experience" plays a key role in modern philosophy. Experience is also the central concept of Adorno's philosophy. Adorno's claim is that the possibility of human experience in contemporary western society is facing limitations. From Adorno's point of view, experience has become objectified in the contemporary western world. Such a situation distorts the relationship between the subject and the object and distorts the experience. While describing the experience in the contemporary world, Adorno explains the conditions for the possibility of undistorted experience. According to Adorno, objectified relationships are reproduced in philosophical theories. Therefore, he seeks to...

The Effectiveness of Corporate Social Responsibility in the face of Corporate Social Irresponsibility and the Moderating Role of Brand Authenticity and Consumer Ethnocentrism

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Baghbannezhad, Ali (Author) ; Khalili Nasr, Arash (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The extant body of literature provides limited coverage regarding the concurrent influence of social responsibility and brand authenticity on both brand expression and adverse consumer behavior. Insufficient attention has been devoted to the correlation between social responsibility and brand forgiveness, as well as mischaracterizations of branding. The interplay of brand and consumer ethnocentrism further serves as a moderating factor in the associations among social responsibility, brand forgiveness, negative discourse, and brand avoidance. Four distinct scenarios, involving the random allocation among distributed companies, were considered: 1. Authentic brand with the presence of social...

Theoretical Analysis of Static and Dynamic Growth of Fractal Cracks

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Khezrzadeh, Hamed (Author) ; Mofid, Massood (Supervisor) ; Yavari, Arash (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
The main need in material related design is the true knowledge about the material properties. Existence of the cracks in the structure of materials is one of the main sources of weakness in the materials. Experimental evidences confirm that the surfaces of the cracks are mainly irregular, but in the existing theories in fracture mechanics all of the results are derived through the assumption of mathematical crack with smooth surfaces or at best with simple geometrical shape. In recent years, after it is being confirmed by experimental results that the fracture surfaces are fractals, several researchers tried to investigate the effect of the roughness of the fracture surfaces in the relations...

Average Rank of Elliptic Curves Over Q

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amiri, Farahnaz (Author) ; Rastegar, Arash (Supervisor) ; Rajaei, Ali (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
In elliptic curves equation, if the number of solution is infinite, complication of calculation increase quickly. Even the simplest solutioncan be large. y2 + y = x35115523309x − 140826120488927 The x-coordinate number of smallest solution has 5454 digits. The theorem of Mordell and Weil states that “The set E(Q) of rational solutions has the structure of an infinitely generated abelian group.” E(Q) = (Z)rankE(Q) ⊕T Can the rank be arbitrary large? The current record is rank(E)=28.Manjul Behargava has recently made progress on the study of the average rank for all elliptic curves with rational coefficient. Every such curve has a unique equation of the form y2 = x3 +Ax+B, where A and B are...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bokaei, Moahammad (Author) ; Behrouzi, Hamid (Supervisor) ; Amini, Arash (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, we deal with the problem of direction of arrival (DOA) using single-snapshot samples taken from multiple source signals by an array of sensors. The array we are looking for in this work is a uniform linear array. There are many ways to solve this problem, including MUSIC and Prony. But one of the few methods that are able to estimate correctly with single-snapshot samples with incomplete uniform linear arrays in compressed sensing base algorithms. In the first step, we can estimate the data of a incomplete uniform linear array by arranging them in the form of low-rank Hankel matrices and using leverage scores and minimizing the weight nuclear norm. If the weight matrices are...

Role of Supply Chain Social Capital in Healthcare Supply Chain Resilience

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khodadadi Nezhad, Hossein (Author) ; Khalili Nasr, Arash (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Increased globalization and level of complexity of supply chains have made them more vulnerable to environmental disruptions than ever before. However, conventional methods of risk management can not help supply chains in the face of turmoil and disruption, because of unexpected and unfortunate events due to the unpredictability and uncertainty in which they are. They can have irreversible effects on supply chains and even threaten the very existence of members of these chains. In such a situation, the key to the success and survival of supply chain operations is to achieve supply chain resilience. On the other hand, health care supply chains are one of the most important and vital parts of...

Prediction of Customer Churn From Subscription Services in Response to Recommendations: With Emphasis on MCI Data

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shirali, Ali (Author) ; Amini, Arash (Supervisor) ; Kazemi, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In competitive markets where a product or service is provided by multiple providers, as the telecom market, keeping active users is expected to be less expensive than attracting new users. In this regard, first of all, churning should be predicted for active users, and secondly, proper recommendations should be provided to prevent churning. In this thesis, by modeling customer churn as a response to the recommendations, we study the churn prediction and prevention problem as a recommender system. This model enables us to select the best offer for each user to prevent it from churning.Modeling customer churn in a recommender system introduces new challenges, including delay in observing...

Numerical simulation of laminar and turbulent two-phase flow in pressure-swirl atomizers

    , Article AIAA Journal ; Volume 50, Issue 10 , 2012 , Pages 2091-2101 ; 00011452 (ISSN) Nouri Borujerdi, A ; Kebriaee, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    AIAA  2012
    Abstract
This paper has developed an axisymmetric laminar and turbulent two-phase flow solver to simulate pressure-swirl atomizers. Equations include the explicit algebraic Reynolds stress model, the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes, and the level set equation. Applying a high-order compact upwind finite difference scheme with the level set equation being culminated to capture the interface between air-liquid two-phase flow and decreasing the mass conservation error in the level set equation. The results show that some recirculation zones are observed close to the wall in the swirl chamber and to the axis. This model can predict converting the Rankin vortex in the swirl chamber to the forced vortex in...
