In addition we try to investigate the correct definition for a specific application in image processing, namely image segmentation. At the end, we propose a new algorithm for partitioning vertices of a weighted graph according to the mentioned application and compare its performance with some similar algorithms

Error Rate Analysis and Power Allocation for Cooperative Networks with Imperfect Channel State Information

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Razavi, Ali (Author) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recently, cooperative communications have gained much interest due to its ability to mitigate fading in wireless networks through achieving spatial diversity while resolving the difficulties of installing multiple antennas on small communication terminals. There have been considerable research efforts on the performance analysis of cooperative diversity. This is while most of the current works assume that perfect knowledge of the channel information is available at the destination and/or relay terminals. However, in many practical scenarios, due to the errors caused by Doppler shift or noise on the pilot signals the perfect estimation of channel coefficients is not possible. In this thesis,...

Hybrid Control of an Unmanned Helicopter System Maneuver

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Razavi, Hamid Reza (Author) ; Salarieh, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
As a subset of hybrid systems, piecewise affine (PWA) systems are capable of approximating the behavior of a wide range of nonlinear systems. Considering the preliminaries regarding these systems and the vast literature gathered around them, the main contributions of the current study are presented in two separate sections. In the first section a class of uncertain piecewise affine systems subject to additive noise are studied. The problem of minimizing the bound on the variance of the steady response of these systems, by means of a piecewise affine observer-controller, is formulated as an optimization problem subject to a number of constraints in the form of matrix inequalities. Then the...

    , Article Polymers for Advanced Technologies ; Volume 22, Issue 5 , 2011 , Pages 690-702 ; 10427147 (ISSN) Razavi, S ; Shojaei, A ; Bagheri, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Binary blends of recycled high-density polyethylene (R-HDPE) with poly(ethylene terephthalate) (R-PET) and recycled polystyrene (R-PS), as well as the ternary blends, i.e. R-HDPE/R-PET/R-PS, with varying amounts of the constituents were prepared by twin screw extruder. The mechanical, rheological, thermal, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses were utilized to characterize the samples. The results revealed that both R-HDPE/R-PET and R-HDPE/R-PS blends show phase inversion but at different compositions. The R-PET was found to have much higher influence on the properties enhancement of the R-HDPE compared to R-PS, but at the phase inverted situation, a significant loss in the tensile...

Design of RF N-Path Power Amplifier

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Razavi, Hossein (Author) ; Sharif Bakhtiar, Mehrdad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A new method for power amplification is proposed. By studying the N-path filter structure, the N-path Structure is employed for power amplifier design. The main feature of this method is that the power amplifier designed upon this structure can amplify the input signal in a multi-standard fashion. In addition, N-path structure eliminates the matching network at the output of power amplifier which usually is a complex circuit implemented off-chip. At the first step, mathematical relations are employed in order to find the appropriate structure for the power amplifier and efficiency optimization is done by means of new mathematical relations. In the next step, required blocks are designed for...

Cycle by cycle envelope detection and ask demodulation

    , Article 27th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering, ICEE 2019, 30 April 2019 through 2 May 2019 ; 2019 , Pages 113-117 ; 9781728115085 (ISBN) Razavi Haeri, A. A ; Safarian, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2019
    Abstract
In modern wireless near-filed power and data telemetry systems such as Implantable Medical Devices (IMD), a data rate of several Mbps is required, while the power carrier frequency is limited to few MHz. Therefore, bit rate is comparable to carrier frequency, and the modulated power carrier signal has amplitude, frequency, or phase variation in every cycle. In this paper a very fast amplitude shift keying (ASK) demodulator circuit is presented. The proposed demodulator is able to demodulate a cycle by cycle ASK modulated signal, and a data-rate-to-carrier (DRC) ratio of 100% is achievable. The circuit extracts the clock by limiting the incoming ASK signal. Cycle by cycle demodulation is done...

, Article Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part G: Journal of Aerospace Engineering ; Volume 234, Issue 2 , 2020 , Pages 192-207 Razavi, H ; Salarieh, H ; Alasty, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    SAGE Publications Ltd  2020
    Abstract
Applicable in numerous fields, low-cost micro-electromechanical system inertial measurement units often require on-sight calibration by the end user due to the existence of systematic errors. A 9-degrees of freedom inertial measurement unit comprises a tri-axis accelerometer, a tri-axis gyroscope, and a tri-axis magnetometer. Various proposed multi-position calibration methods can calibrate tri-axis accelerometers and magnetometers to a degree. Yet the full calibration of a tri-axis gyroscope and axis alignment of all the sensors still often requires equipment such as a rate table to generate a priori known angular velocities and attitudes or relies on the disturbance-prone magnetometer...

    Abstract
Inspired by algorithms utilized in inertial navigation, an inertial motion capturing algorithm capable of position and heading estimation is introduced. The fusion algorithm is capable of real-time link geometry estimation, which allows for the imposition of biomechanical constraints without a priori knowledge regarding sensor placements. Furthermore, the algorithm estimates gyroscope and accelerometer bias, scaling, and non-orthogonality parameters in real-time. The stationary phases of the links, during which pseudo-measurements such as zero velocity or heading stabilization updates are applied, are detected using optically trained neural networks with buffered accelerometer and gyroscope...

    Abstract
This paper presents a cycle by cycle Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) demodulator, able to demodulate a FSK signal with 1% frequency modulation index (MI), in a single cycle. Based on the proposed demodulation scheme, a high rate data transmission link can be established through a high-Q inductive coupling link, breaking the basic tradeoff between the power transfer efficiency (PTE) and data rate in single carrier wireless power and data transfer systems. Designed and simulated with 0.18μ m CMOS process, the proposed FSK demodulator, detects successfully a 5Mbps data with a carrier frequency of 5MHz. A test chip is fabricated in 180nm CMOS technology. Measurement results shows that the...

Inertial motion capture accuracy improvement by kalman smoothing and dynamic networks

    , Article IEEE Sensors Journal ; Volume 21, Issue 3 , 2021 , Pages 3722-3729 ; 1530437X (ISSN) Razavi, H ; Salarieh, H ; Alasty, A ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2021
    Abstract
Localization-capable inertial motion capture algorithms rely on zero-velocity updates (ZUPT), usually as measurements in a Kalman filtering scheme, for position and attitude error control. As ZUPTs are only applicable during the static phases a link goes through, estimation errors grow during dynamic ones. This error growth may somewhat be mitigated by imposing biomechanical constraints in multi-sensor systems. Error reduction is also possible by optimization-based methods that incorporate the dynamic and static constraints governing the system behavior over a period of time (e.g. the dynamic network algorithm); when this period includes multiple static phases for a link, its estimation...

Conditional Access System Design for DVB-T Receiver

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ramazi, Ramin (Author) ; Hesabi, Shaahin (Supervisor) ; Sharifkhani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the Pay-TV industry, it is necessary to limit access of unauthorized users. Conditional Access System (CAS) is the solution. In the Pay-TV, the ability of instant join and leave operation is desirable for users. On the other hand, this characteristic is in contradiction with growth of user number.
Previous proposed conditional access systems address the requirement of pay-TV from several aspects. Key distribution management is on of them which plays a key role in the security and efficiency of a conditional access system. Re-examining the process of key distribution management make it possible to find a way to provide a greater flexibility for the users.
    The purpose of this...

Vortex-Induced Vibrations of Free Spanning Pipelines

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hesabi, Amir Hossein (Author) ; Ghoreishi, Reza (Supervisor) ; Abbaspour, Majid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
When a submarine pipeline is laid, pipeline spans may exist due to the unevenness of the seabed. Such pipeline spans when exposed to currents, may undergo vortex-induced vibration (VIV). As the flow velocity increases, the cross-flow oscillation begins to occur and vortex shedding frequency may approach the natural frequency of the pipe span. Amplified response due to resonance between the vortex shedding frequency of the free span may cause fatigue damage. Thus, the determination of the critical allowable span length under the various environments becomes the most challenging areas in the offshore industry. A substantial research effort related to various aspects of VIV and free span...

Design of a Model Airplane with Fluidic Thrust Vectoring Control

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hedayatzadeh Razavi, Alireza (Author) ; Saghafi, Fariborz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Thrust vector control as a method toward increasing of the aircrafts’ maneuverability and expanding the flight envelope into poor aerodynamic conditions, is considered a major field of academic and industrial appeal. Older methods based upon an approach of utilizing a mechanical instrument, impose quite a large amount of cost onto the design, prototyping and operation of the aircraft, even though they lead to improve in maneuverability. Having taken these setbacks into account, to simplify the manufacturing process and to reduce the thrust losses due to mechanical control of the thrust vector, the direction of research was set toward realizing and employing the flow control procedures. In...

Numerical Analysis of Buried Pipelines Subjected to Normal-Oblique Faulting

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Razavi, Omid (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, Fayyaz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In existing societies, transportation of water, oil, gas and other liquids in great amounts between distant locations is economically feasible only through pipelines. Design of buried pipelines against static loads is an established and straight forward process. On the other hand, because of difficulties in predicting the behavior of buried pipelines under seismic loads and also lack of sufficient studies in this field, there is no specific code oriented approach for performance analysis of buried pipelines under seismic loads. Due to insufficient three dimensional numerical analyses on the behavior of buried pipelines crossing active normal and normal-oblique faults for different dip angles...

Effect of gamma ray on poly(lactic acid)/poly(vinyl acetate-co-vinyl alcohol) blends as biodegradable food packaging films

    , Article Radiation Physics and Chemistry ; Vol. 96 , 2014 , pp. 12-18 ; ISSN: 0969806X Razavi, S. M ; Dadbin, S ; Frounchi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
Poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/poly(vinyl acetate-. co-vinyl alcohol) [P(VAc-. co-VA)] blends as new transparent film packaging materials were prepared at various blend compositions and different vinyl alcohol contents. The blends and pure PLA were irradiated by gamma rays to investigate the extent of changes in the packaging material during gamma ray sterilization process. The miscibility of the blends was dependent on the blend composition and vinyl alcohol content; gamma irradiation had little effect on the extent of miscibility. The glass transition temperature of pure PLA and PLA/P(VAc-. co-VA) miscible blends reduced after irradiation. On the other hand in PLA/P(VAc-. co-VA) immiscible...

    , Article Journal of Applied Polymer Science ; Volume 125, Issue SUPPL. 2 , September , 2012 , Pages E20-E26 ; 00218995 (ISSN) Razavi, S. M ; Dadbin, S ; Frounchi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Wiley  2012
    Abstract
The oxygen-barrier properties of poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/poly(vinyl acetate-co-vinyl alcohol) [P(VAc-co-VA)] were investigated. P(VAc-co-VA)s with vinyl alcohol (VA) contents of 5, 10, and 15 mol % were prepared with the acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of poly(vinyl acetate). The obtained copolymers with various contents of VA were blended with PLA at 5/95, 10/90, and 15/85 compositions. Films of the blends were prepared by a solution-casting method with chloroform as the cosolvent. Although the blend with 5% VA in the copolymer appeared to be miscible, the blends with 10 and 15% VA content in the copolymer were immiscible, as verified by dynamic mechanical analysis. The oxygen-barrier properties...

    Abstract
In this paper, we study the recovery of a certain type of shape images modeled as binary-valued images from few Fourier samples. In particular, the boundary of the shapes is assumed to be the zero level-set of a trigonometric curve. This problem was previously considered in [1], and it was shown that such images can be studied withing the framework of signals with finite rate of innovation. In particular, an annihilation filter is introduced to recover the trigonometric boundary curve. It is proved in [1] that 3Λ Fourier samples are sufficient to exactly recover the edges of a binary shape, where Λ is the bandwith of the trigonometric boundary curve. In this paper, we introduce a class of...
