, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Asaadi, Shadi (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Vafa, Ehsan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to advances of biotechnology, control of bioprocess has become very important. The goal of this project is to simulate the acetic acid production bioreactor and designing an adaptive PI controller for this reactor. For this goal, a suitable model has been selected from the literature and simulation has shown that the system has a nonlinear dynamical behavior. In order to control the system in a wide range of operating conditions, the adaptive PI controller was designed. In single input-single output case, the concentration of the product is controlled in such a way that the production rate is maximized, assuming that the pH and temperature are kept constant. Then a two input-two...

By evaluation of different oxidation systems, the hydrogen peroxide-formic acid system was selected for the oxidation of sulfur-containing compounds of the light fuel oils. The effects of main operating parameters of the oxidation system including temperature, hydrogen peroxide to sulfur molar ratio (O/S), and formic acid to sulfur molar ratio (Acid/S) on the...

Performance Evaluation of Adaptive PID Controllers

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taghizadeh, Saeed (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Vafa, Ehsan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The PID controller has been widely used in the industry for many years because of its simple structure and satisfactory performance. If the process is time-varying or has a nonlinear dynamic, the PID controller with constant parameters can not control the process in a wide range of operation and adaptive PID controller should be used. In this thesis, two adaptive controllers proposed in the literature, one for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) affine nonlinear systems and another for single-input single-output (SISO) non-affine nonlinear systems both in the normal form that both of them are extended in to the general form. The latter extended controller includes the MIMO systems. The main...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahrokhi, Omid (Author) ; Ghazanfari, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor) ; Massihi, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Most of the Iranian oil reservoirs are reaching end of their natural production life, hence they are suitable candidates for EOR common processes like gas injection and WAG injection. Studies have shown that gas and WAG injection can be applied for optimal oil production. Past studies have been mainly on gas and WAG injection in immiscible or fully miscible conditions and there is a limited amount of data available on performance of these methods in near miscible conditions. Miscible injection is not feasible in old Iranian oil reservoirs due to their depleted pressure. Moreover injection in lower pressures is attractive from both economical and operational standpoints since this reduces the...

Controlling the Operational Conditions of a Greenhouse

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fallah Ramezani, Saeed (Author) ; Shahrokhi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Vafa, Ehsan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Researchers have paid more attention to greenhouse cultivation, due to the exacerbation of food and water crisis. Higher production with lower cost could be achieved through greenhouse climate control (temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide concentration). However, greenhouse climate control is a challenging task, because greenhouses have highly interactive nonlinear dynamics and model uncertainties and are subject to input saturation. In light of the fact that Iran is a country with a warm and arid climate, tunnel greenhouses equipped with evaporative cooling system are very common in Iran. Accordingly, this type of greenhouse is considered for modelling, simulation and control in this...

Attack Mitigation in Multi-service Web Applications

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shahrokhi, Hooman (Author) ; Kharrazi, Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Defending software against different types of attacks is challenging enough, but for server-side programs it is even harder. The ever-changing nature of technologies used on server-side programs makes it more complex. In this thesis we try to identify these challenges in regard to two specific technologies: multi-service architectures and asynchronous I/O. Then, we present a new framework for running software in asynchronous multi-service architectures with native support for access control rules. Our framework acts as an intermediate between services and can support rules based on the distributed request context that exists between services.

    Abstract
In this paper, using a suitable model for propane thermal cracking and based on a cost function, the optimal temperature profile is obtained. To achieve the optimal temperature trajectory, the furnace is divided into several zones and proportional-integral-derivative controllers are used to control the temperature of each zone. According to temperature measurements available, two cases are considered. In the first case, it is assumed that the furnace wall temperatures at different points are measured along with the reactor outlet gas temperature. In the second case, we assume that the reacting gas temperatures inside the reactor at different points are available. Simulation results indicate...

    Abstract
This paper concerns nonlinear temperature control of a batch polymerization reactor where suspension polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) takes place. For this purpose, four control algorithms, namely, a fix proportional-integral (PI) controller, an adaptive proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller and two globally linearizing control (GLC) schemes, one for known kinetic model (GLC-I) and the other for unknown kinetic model (GLC-II), are selected. The performances of these controllers are compared through simulation and real-time studies in the presence of different levels of parameter uncertainty. The results indicate that GLC-I and GLC-H have better performances than fix PI...
