    Abstract
    Flow through porous media depends strongly on the spatial distribution of the geological heterogeneities which appear on all length scales. We lack precise information about heterogeneity distribution on various scales, from pore level to reservoir scale. However, some sources provide suitable information. At pore scale, for example, the micro-CT images show considerable insights into pore space structures and play valuable role in porous media characterization. The consequence of all geological heterogeneities is a great deal of uncertainty in dynamic performance of porous media which can be investigated using percolation theory.     Abstract
    Laminated composites are made using different routes, including adhesive bonding. In this investigation, Aluminum layers are bonded together using epoxy adhesive (neat, rubber-modified and filled-epoxy). In phase one of this investigation, the influence of number of layers and adhesive ductility have been studied on dynamic behavior of composites. The results of impact behavior of laminates indicate that the impact energy increases with the number of layers. Also, it can be concluded that there is much more sensitivity of the impact energy of the composite to the number of the layers than that to the adhesive composition. © 2004 Elsevier B.V.     Abstract
    Iron oxide nanoparticles supported on mesoporous silica-type materials have been successfully utilized in the aqueous selective oxidation of alkenes under mild conditions using hydrogen peroxide as green oxidant. The supported catalyst could be easily recovered after completion of the reaction and reused several times without any loss in activity (no metal leaching observed during the reaction), constituting a facile and straightforward example of aqueous oxidation chemistry promoted by iron-based heterogeneous systems.     Abstract
    The present investigation introduces a new series of cycloplatinated(II) complexes, with the general formula Pt(O-bpy)(Me)(CN-R)] (R = benzyl, 2-naphtyl and tert-butyl), which are able to generate the stable trans-Pt(IV) product in the solution after the reaction with iodomethane. In fact, the trans product is both the kinetic and thermodynamic product of the reaction; this observation was supported by DFT calculations. These Pt(II) complexes are supported by 2,2'-bipyridine N-oxide (O-bpy) and one of several isocyanides as the cyclometalated and ancillary ligands, respectively. These new Pt(II) complexes undergo oxidative addition with MeI to give the corresponding trans-Pt(IV) complexes....

    Abstract
    Zeolite-based Ag/AgBr and Ag/AgBr/TiO 2 photocatalysts were prepared by sol-gel and deposition methods and were characterized. Their photocatalytic activities were evaluated by inactivation of Escherichia (E.) coli and the photodegradation of Acid Blue 92 and potassium permanganate. The composites containing Ag/AgBr showed the antibacterial activity in the dark by releasing Ag ions into the medium. The results for inactivation of E. coli indicated that Ag/AgBr/TiO 2 modified photocatalyst had better antibacterial activity than Ag/AgBr/zeolite, while zeolite and TiO 2/zeolite did not show any antibacterial activity under visible light and dark conditions.     Abstract
    CeO 2-TiO 2 nanoparticles were prepared by the sol-gel process using 2-hydroxylethylammonium formate as room-temperature ionic liquid and calcined at different temperatures (500-700°C). CeO 2-TiO 2-graphene nanocomposites were prepared by hydrothermal reaction of graphene oxide with CeO 2-TiO 2 nanoparticles in aqueous solution of ethanol. The photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, BET surface area, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transformed infrared techniques.     A numerical model based on the boundary element method is proposed for the sloshing of a flowing liquid in a three-dimensional tank. Assuming a mean flow in the tank in addition to a perturbation flow, the nonlinear boundary conditions of the liquid free-surface are linearized. Using the boundary element method along with the modal analysis technique a reduced order model is obtained which is used to calculate the fundamental sloshing frequencies and modes in the tank with an inlet and outlet.     We derive some bounds on the Optimum Asymptotic Multiuser Efficiency (OAME) of randomly spread CDMA as extensions of the result by Tse and Verdú. To this end, random Gaussian and random binary antipodal spreading are considered. Furthermore, the input signal is assumed to be Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK). It is shown that in a CDMA system with K-user and N chips when K and N → 8 and the loading factor, K over N, grows logarithmically with K, the OAME converges to 1 almost surely under some condition.     Extensive subsonic wind tunnel tests were conducted on a coplanar wing-canard configuration at various angles of attack. In these experiments, a 60° swept canard was placed upstream of a 60° swept main delta wing. This paper deals with the distribution of mean and fluctuating pressure coefficients on the upper surfaces of both the canard and the wing immersed in a variety of angles of attack. According to the results, presence of canard postpones the vortex formation and growth on the wing to higher angles of attack compared to the canard-off case.     Eligibility is one of the important security properties which must be satisfied in electronic voting systems. This property refers to legitimacy of voters and their right to vote only once.
