, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahimi, Mohammad Kazem (Author) ; Vesal, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Considering the fact that human capital is a crucial element in explaining the differences in income per capita and economic growth among countries, this research focuses on the effect of initial endowments of individuals on the process of human capital accumulation. One of the most important questions one can ask in this regard is whether individuals that are born in households with a low level of endowments, cannot develop their level of human capital due to a lack in the ability to obtain the factors required for their educational attainment. To answer this question, and considering the limitations of obtaining educational data, we aim to answer this question using district-level data....

Dynamic behavior Analysis of a Swirl Burner using Recurrence Plotting Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talebi, Mohammad Sadegh (Author) ; Farshchi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this dissertation, based on the method of recurrence plot and its application in dynamic system analysis we examine the behavior and dynamic analysis of a swirl burner. Though retrospective studies on thermoacoustic instability have been performed on single-blown premixed cone shape flames and several combustion systems but so far this method has not been considered for a real combustion system. There have also been more work on phenomena known as the flame separation from the burner (blowout) and its propagation into the burner (flashback), which is almost conscious of their process. In fact, selecting a single flame has been to eliminate the flame-flame interactions in the...

In this research, we want to investigate it`s effect on Tehran air pollution as well as heterogenous effects on different distances. For this, we use air pollution data of monitoring stations and meteorological data as well as location and construction time of metro stations. We use difference in difference and OLS regressions to estimate these causal effects. We see that air pollution has been decreased 2-3% as a result...

Design, Fabrication and Testing of Novel Coils Aimed at Increasing the Free Surface Area of Levitated Samples in Electromagnetic Levitation Melting

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Youssefian, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Halali, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Condensation from a gaseous phase is a common method for the fabrication of metallic nanoparticles. Electromagnetic induction furnaces are the most common equipment used for this method. Since the sample doesn’t touch any foreign object, this method is one of very few ways to synthesize ultrapure nanoparticles. However, a major setback of this method is its low production rate. One of the only workarounds to this issue is to increase the melt’s surface area so as to present a larger surface for evaporation. In the common setup for this furnace the molten sample takes on a spherical shape which unfortunately holds the lowest surface to volume ration of any shape. The endeavor in this study has...

The Super Resolution Algorithm Based on Attributed Scattering Model Using Multi-Band and Multi-Angle Signals

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Seyedin, Mohammad Bagher (Author) ; Karbasi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The resolution is one of the most essential factors in radar imaging. The range and cross-range resolution are inversely proportional to the radar bandwidth and the angular width, respectively. Increasing the bandwidth requires upgrading the hardware of radars and the cost of this procedure is high. Also, to increase the angular width, we need more time to scan the scene from different angles but due to reasons such as movements of targets in the scene, it is unachievable.According to these limitations, we can utilize some signal processing techniques to Improve the radar resolution. Super resolution algorithms are the common approaches to achieving this goal. In this research, we proposed a...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Nematollahi, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Mahdavi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Physical and chemical properties of tungsten oxide thin films change reversibly while exposure to hydrogen gas. This property is called gasochromic. To enhance optical properties of such films, nanostructured, amorphous and porous thin films of (WO3)1-x(MeO)x (MeO= TiO2, MoO3, NiO; x=0.09, 0.17, 0.23, 0.29, 0.33) were fabricated by Pulsed Laser Deposition. Molar percentage of Me/W (Me= Ti, Mo and Ni) was changed in films with respect to targets; for Ti and Ni always a reduction, but for Mo an enhancement for low percentages was observed. The reason is the existence of thermal ablation mechanism during deposition, in the other word is different vapor pressure effect. An increment in x for...

Indoor Scene Classification by Object Detection

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mazinani, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Manzuri, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Image classification is one of the most challenging issues in computer vision. One sort of such classifications is Scene Classification. To perform automatic classification reserchers used many aproches. The general approach used features directly extracted from the image, such as color and texture or features extracted by the SIFT algorithmetc. Another method is based on recognizing object of the Scene (espessially indoor scene). This method is based on finding of a limited number of prespecified objects. In the proposed method, first a window surrounding each objects, (regardless of the type of object) founded. Then the SIFT feature is extracted from that window. All features (corresponding...

Large Eddy Simulation of a Low Swirl Turbulent Jet Flow using a Simple Combustion Model

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Arabnejad, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Farshchi, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, isothermal and reactive low swirl flow are investigated using the large eddy simulation (LES) method. In contrast to high swirl burner, in low swirl burner stability mechanism is not related to central recirculation zone and a detached flame stabilizes in a place where the flow velocity and flame speed are matched. Although lots of efforts have been devoted to simulate swirl flow, much of the previous simulations investigated high swirl flow in different configurations. The current research is conducted for co-annular swirl flow, isothermal low swirl flow and reactive low swirl flow. Simulation of co-annular swirl flow is performed to investigate the performance of...

Tribological and Corrosion Properties of Ni-SiC (FGM) Coatings

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Daneshpour, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Ni-SiC nanocomposite coatings are considered as corrosion resistant coatings with better tribological properties. In order to get superior properties, the amount of added particles should be increased. But high concentration of particles has some drawbacks such as low adhesion to substrate, probability of cracking in coating due to heat expansion coefficient difference between substrate and coating and also embrittlement of coating and low elasticity. In this study, the possibility of producing Ni-SiC nanocomposite coatings with FGM structure was investigated. SiC particles concentration was 5 to 80 g/l and the current density was between 3 to 5 A/dm¬2. The pH of bath and temperature was...

Numerical Study on Bolted End-Plate Connection and The Code Limits

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hassanpoor, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Regarding the numerous casualties and financial losses due to intense earthquakes, the ductility is considered of the main importance in addition to stability, stiffness, and strength criteria of the structure’s connections. In order to enhance the seismic behavior of the structures in such severe earthquakes, design codes for steel structures have suggested special types of connections. Among them, bolted end plate connection is considered a conventional type of connection used for creating ductile semi-rigid connection. In this study, in order to simulate the behavior of this joint, a 3-D finite element model is developed in Abaqus software, in which the inelastic behavior of the materials...
