Quantum Simulation of Quantum Field Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bibak, Fatemeh (Author) ; Karimipour, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Raeisi, Sadegh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Physics underlies computer science because computation is a physical process. The fundamental question about computers is: What computations can be performed efficiently, and what computations are intractable? This is a question about the laws of physics and the consequences of those laws.Though we don’t know how to prove it from first principles,we have good reasons to believe that there are computational problems which are too hard to solve using digital computers based on classical physics, yet can be solved by computers which exploit quantum phenomena such as interference and entanglement. This is one of deepest distinctions ever made between classical and quantum physics, and it poses...

Entanglement Witness with no Shared Reference Frame

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Jannesary, Vahid (Author) ; Karimipour, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Raeisi, Sadegh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Many quantum protocols that utilize entanglement are implemented between two distant bases. For various reasons, these two bases may not have a shared reference frame. In such cases, the mentioned protocols need to operate independently of the coordinate system. Therefore, identifying the entanglement of shared states between these two bases is not feasible with conventional methods, and alternative approaches must be found. The main focus of this thesis is to develop methods for identifying entangled states between two bases without the existence of a shared reference frame.
In this thesis, we begin with a comprehensive review of the history of entanglement witnesses. Next, we...

Design Switching Power Amplifiers for UHF RFID Reader

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Talebi Amiri, Omid (Author) ; Sharif Bakhtiar, Mehrdad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
There is a strong drive toward handheld communication devices with building blocks that are fully integrated in standard CMOS technologies. Although there are obvious cost, size, and repeatability advantages, it is particularly challenging to implement fully integrated power amplifiers with no external matching in standard CMOS under the large supply variations and harsh load mismatches present in handheld devices. This Project deals with the front-end of an Integrated RFID Reader for the UHF band. The bottleneck of the design is the design of a fully on-chip Power Amplifier. In this thesis, a new method is introduced to increase transistors breakdown voltage in a class E power amplifier....

Coding advantage decomposition inequality for the space-frequency block codes

    , Article IET Communications ; Vol. 8, Issue. 4 , 2014 , Pages 500-507 ; ISSN: 17518628 Morsali, A ; Tofigh, S ; Mohammadian, Z ; Talebi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
In this study, the authors present a new criterion which can be used to decompose the coding advantage (CA) of space-frequency block codes (SFBCs). The proposed decomposition separates the CA into two parts, called precoder-CA and channel-CA. The precoder-CA represents the effects of the precoder and the signal constellation, and can be used in the design of the precoder of SFBCs. The channel-CA, on the other hand, gives an indication of the effects of the channel characteristics, and can be utilised for optimising the permutation parameter. The authors have shown that the proposed decomposition method leads to a lower computational complexity for the optimisation procedure compared with the...

On the coding advantages of the quasi-orthogonal space-frequency block codes

    , Article IET Communications ; Vol. 8, Issue. 4 , 2014 , Pages 525-529 ; ISSN: 17518628 Shahabinejad, M ; Morsali, A ; Talebi, S ; Shahabinejad, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2014
    Abstract
In this study, the authors show that the coding advantage (CA) of quasi-orthogonal space-frequency block codes (QOSFBCs) could be decomposed into two parts, namely intrinsic CA (ICA) and extrinsic CA (ECA). Then, by using the ICA, the authors demonstrate that the optimum precoder of the QOSFBCs could be analytically derived without any requirement of the exhaustive search. Then, by improving the ECA, the authors enhance performances of the QOSFBCs efficiently - up to 4dB. Finally, the authors show that a very fast optimisation process for the QOSFBCs is viable over any arbitrary frequency-selective channel

Time of concentration of surface flow in complex hillslopes

    , Article Journal of Hydrology and Hydromechanics ; Volume 61, Issue 4 , 2013 , Pages 269-277 ; 0042790X (ISSN) Sabzevari, T ; Saghafian, B ; Talebi, A ; Ardakanian, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Versita  2013
    Abstract
Time of concentration (TC) of surface flow in watersheds depends on the coupled response of hillslopes and stream networks. The important point in this background is to study the effects of the geometry and the shape of complex hillslopes on the time of concentration considering the degree of flow convergence (convergent, parallel or divergent) as well as the profile curvature (concave, straight or convex). In this research, the shape factor of complex hillslopes as introduced by Agnese et al. (2007) is generalized and linked to the TC. A new model for calculating TC of complex hillslopes is presented, which depends on the plan shape, the type and degree of profile curvature, the Manning...

Fast two-stage global motion estimation: A blocks and pixels sampling approach

    , Article Smart Innovation, Systems and Technologies ; Volume 11 SIST , 2011 , Pages 143-151 ; 21903018 (ISSN) ; 9783642221576 (ISBN) Ahmadi, A ; Pouladi, F ; Salehinejad, H ; Talebi, S ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Global motion estimation (GME) is an important technique in image and video processing. Whereas the direct global motion estimation techniques boast reasonable precision they tend to suffer from high computational complexity. As with indirect methods, though presenting lower computational complexity they mostly exhibit lower accuracy than their direct counterparts. In this paper, the authors introduce a robust algorithm for GME with near identical accuracy and almost 50-times faster than MPEG-4 verification model (VM). This approach entails two stages in which, first, motion vector of sampled block is employed to obtain initial GME then Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is applied to the...

Improved initial value prediction for global motion estimation

    , Article European Signal Processing Conference, 23 August 2010 through 27 August 2010, Aalborg ; 2010 , Pages 2022-2026 ; 22195491 (ISSN) Ahmadi, A ; Salehinejad, H ; Talebi, S ; Koroupi, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Global motion estimation (GME) algorithms have an imperative role in object-based applications. Gradient-based GME is a well known method among these algorithms. Such algorithms require an initial value for their initialization step. Well estimation of this value plays a significant role in the accuracy of GME. This work introduces a simple but efficient technique for initial value prediction of GME. This technique employs a long-term predictor as well as global motions of previous frames. Simulations results demonstrate faster convergence and less computational complexity of the proposed method versus common presented techniques in the literature with almost same efficiency

    Abstract
In this paper we consider the issue of energy efficiency in random access networks and show that optimizing transmission probabilities of nodes can enhance network performance in terms of energy consumption and fairness. First, we propose a heuristic power control method that improves throughput, and then we model the Utility Constrained Energy Minimization (UCEM) problem in which the utility constraint takes into account single and multi node performance. UCEM is modeled as a convex optimization problem and Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) is used to find optimal transmission probabilities. Numerical results show that our method can achieve fairness, reduce energy consumption and...

    Abstract
Traditionally energy systems were analyzed technically, but current environmental issues and considerations have put new constraints on the planning and managing of energy systems. Such an exergoeconomic and exergoenvironmental analysis were born. This analysis is aimed to describe the necessity and application of a new concept in environmental liability accounting based on physical quantities to overcome the weaknesses of the developed allocation methods and the internalization of external environmental damages. The proposed method is modified in environmental analysis to consider the effect of non-energy flows on a macro-surface energy system. As a case study, this method is tuned for a...

New vector quantization-based techniques for reducing the effect of channel noise in image transmission

    , Article Signal Processing ; Volume 84, Issue 11 SPEC. ISS , 2004 , Pages 2153-2163 ; 01651684 (ISSN) Dianat, R ; Marvasti, F ; Azmi, P ; Talebi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier  2004
    Abstract
In this paper, new vector quantization (VQ) based techniques for reducing the effect of channel noise in image transmission are introduced. In one of the proposed methods, i.e., component VQ (CVQ), by transmitting the components of code-vectors (and not their indices), we will be able to reduce the effect of channel noise. To decrease the output rate of CVQ, a modification of CVQ called sub-index VQ (SIVQ) is introduced. This method has error-correcting capability as well. Simulation results show that CVQ and SIVQ techniques are robust to channel errors and surpass the conventional method, in which the indices of the selected code-vectors are protected using a Reed-Solomon code. An error...

    Large Scale Index Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haj Saeedi Sadegh, Ahmad Reza (Author) ; Esfahanizadeh, Mostafa (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Studying interrelation between geometry and topology has always been an intriguing idea for classifying manifolds; characteristic classes, signature, Euler characteristic, index of Dirac operator are classical examples of topological invariants that use additional structure to be constructed. Index Theory is seeking to develop a literature to unite these invariants. A culmination in this theory happens in Atiyah and Singer index theorem, which gives a tool to relate elliptic operators on manifolds to the topology. Using this theorem, the index of Dirac operator on an spin manifold is independent of the geometric structure and so is decided by the topology. Another tool for analyzing elliptic...

    Abstract
Development of orbital shaking technology for enhanced mixing with lower mechanical demand has been receiving significant attention since the advent of advanced mixing schemes. Amongst shaken bioreactors, microtiter plates play significant role both for research and industrial purposes due to their capability of handling tiny amount of liquid in parallel experimentations. Detailed understanding of complicated Flow hydrodynamics thus seems to be considered a continual effort, as it is responsible for efficient gas-liquid mass transfer. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique is shown to be a suitable numerical method in particular for discovering concealed flow facts, which can reliably...

    Abstract
The Taguchi method, a robust experimental design for optimization, was used for the synthesis of a superabsorbent hydrogel network using γ-rays as an initiator, energy source and crosslinker at the same time. Nine different samples of superabsorbent hydrogels were prepared in various conditions from kappa-carrageenan (κC) and acrylamide by γ-irradiation at room temperature. Considering the results of nine trials and according to analysis of variance (ANOVA), a new experimental condition with the concentrations of κC and acrylamide 1.5 g and 0.028 mol (2 g in total volume of 50 mL H2O), respectively, as well as γ-ray at the optimum total dose (7 kGy) was proposed. After preparing the desired...

    Abstract
In this paper, by applying a new permutation to the full-diversity block circular delay diversity (BCDD) space-frequency codes (SFCs), we show that their performance could be enhanced. Furthermore, we propose a new method for performing the permutation in the absence of partial channel state information at the transmitter. This new permutation, which is done based on artificial delay and power profiles (ADPPs), could improve the performance of the BCDD SFCs more than 3 dB as simulation results demonstrate

Maximizing quality of aggregation in delay-constrained wireless sensor networks

    , Article IEEE Communications Letters ; Volume 17, Issue 11 , 2013 , Pages 2084-2087 ; 10897798 (ISSN) Alinia, B ; Yousefi, H ; Talebi, M. S ; Khonsari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
In this letter, both the number of participating nodes and spatial dispersion are incorporated to establish a bi-objective optimization problem for maximizing the quality of aggregation under interference and delay constraints in tree-based wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The formulated problem is proved to be NP-hard with respect to Weighted-sum scalarization and a distributed heuristic aggregation scheduling algorithm, named SDMAX, is proposed. Simulation results show that SDMAX not only gives a close approximation of the Pareto-optimal solution, but also outperforms the best, to our knowledge, existing alternative proposed so far in the literature

    Abstract
A joint theoretical and experimental study of the kinetic and mechanism of the rearrangement of allyl p-tolyl ether was performed in order to study the kinetic and mechanism of the reaction. Experimental studies were performed in gas phase over a temperature range of 493.15-533.15 K. The experimental Arrhenius parameters of this reaction were measured to be Ea = 36.08 kcal mol-1, ΔS# = -7.88 cal mol-1 K-1, and Log A = 11.74, experimentally. Using GC for the mixture of the reaction with and without cyclohexene demonstrated that the reaction is clean without any radical intermediates. The experimental results show that the studied reaction is unimolecular and proceeds through a concerted...
