Morphology development and mechanical properties of unsaturated polyester resin containing nanodiamonds

    , Article Polymer International ; Volume 66, Issue 6 , 2017 , Pages 950-959 ; 09598103 (ISSN) Hashemi, M ; Shojaei, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
Unsaturated polyester/styrene (UP) resin was filled with nanodiamonds (NDs) containing carboxyl and methacrylate functionalities using mechanical mixing. Field emission SEM exhibited a uniform dispersion of tightly bound aggregates of nanosized spherical NDs with good interfacial interaction. Rheological measurements exhibited a step increment in the shear viscosity of a UP/ND suspension at 0.6 wt% ND resembling a percolation state at this loading. Shear viscosity data supported by dynamic mechanical analysis results suggested the development of effective ND particles in which ND aggregates were covered by only polyester macromolecules. Accordingly, the morphology of UP/ND composites...

Multifractal Analysis in Tehran Stock Exchange: MFDFA Approach

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hashemi, Navid (Author) ; Zamani, Shiva (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Many studies point to a possible new stylized fact for financial time series: the multifractality. Several authors have already detected this characteristic in multiple time series in several countries. With that in mind and based on Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (MFDFA) method, this thesis analyzes the multifractality in the Tehran Stock Exchange. This analysis is performed with daily data from Tepix index (Tehran stock exchange's main index) and other three highly marketable stocks in the Tehran Stock Exchange (Pharma index, Oil index and Metal index), wich making up 1782 observations for each index in the period from March 21, 2011 to Aug 22, 2018. We found that the studied...

Design and Fabrication of Variable DC Current Source for Microwave Tube Solenoid

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hashemi, Hamidreza (Author) ; Kaboli, Shahriyar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In order to adjust the electrons beam in microwave lamps, an accurate electromagnetic field that is produced by a solenoid is required. The precision of the magnetic field generated by this solenoid is very important, and in advanced systems this precision is less than 10 ppm. This system is used to adjust the radiation rate for producing a variety of radiopharmaceutical. The major problem of the system is that the electron beam changes by time due to a change in the magnetic field, and this event causes the operator's room to be radiated. Constant calibration of this system is also very demanding and impractical. An example of these highly accurate (several ppm) systems are used in the...

Parallel Implementation of Telecommunication Decodings in Real-time

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafarzadeh, Ali (Author) ; Hashemi, Matin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Many chip manufacturers have recently introduced high-performance deep-learning hardware accelerators. In modern GPUs, programmable tensor cores accelerate the heavy operations involved in deep neural networks. This paper presents a novel solution to re-purpose tensor cores in modern GPUs for high-throughput implementation of turbo decoders. Turbo codes closely approach Shannon’s limit on channel capacity, and are widely used in many state-of-the-art wireless systems including satellite communications and mobile communications. Experimental evaluations show that the proposed solution achieves about 1.2 Gbps throughput, which is higher compared to previous GPU-accelerated solutions

    , Article 2007 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference, IMOC, Salvador, 29 January 2007 through 1 November 2007 ; December , 2007 , Pages 840-843 ; 1424406617 (ISBN); 9781424406616 (ISBN) Hashemi, A ; Banai, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
A new hybrid method based on multimode contour integral and mode matching techniques will be introduced. It is capable of analyzing any H-plane discontinuity in a rectangular waveguide. The process is based on segmentation and dividing the structure into key building blocks. We use the multimode contour integral method to analyze the blocks including irregular shape H-plane discontinuities. In opposite to traditional contour integral method, which considers only the effect of dominant mode (TE10) on wave ports, multimode contour integral considers the effect of higher order modes (TE n0) excited by discontinuities on these ports. The mode matching technique will be used to analyze the...

    Abstract
There have been many works on generative networks and image generation in the past few years, but the problem with this work is that there is no control over the generated images. The goal of disentangled image synthesis is to generate new images with specific detail and have control over the generated images. Image-based virtual try-on aims to synthesize the customer image with an in-shop clothes image to acquire seamless and natural try-on results, which have attracted increasing attention. The main procedures of image-based virtual try-on usually consist of clothes image generation and try-on image synthesis. In contrast, prior arts cannot guarantee satisfying clothes results when facing...

Distributed Tracking in Smart Camera Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rezaei Hosseinabadi, Fatemeh (Author) ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Human tracking is an essential step in many computer vision-based applications. As single view tracking may not be sufficiently robust and accurate, tracking based on multiple cameras has been widely considered in recent years. This thesis presents a distributed human tracking method in a smart camera network and introduces a particle filter design based on Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) and color histogram. The proposed adaptive motion model also estimates the target speed from the history of its latest displacement and improves the robustness of the tracker by decreasing the probability of missing targets. In addition, a distributed data fusion method is proposed which fuses the...

Developing a Test Platform for IP Multimedia Service in Mobile Core Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hatami, Amir Mohammad (Author) ; Hossein Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The value of data transmission has surprisingly increased in the past years. Years ago, transmission of a few by telegraph systems satisfied human needs. But the amount of data transmitted increases exponentially and that is where engineers face real challenges. In the first generation of mobile networks, the voice was transmitted using Analog technology but in the second generation it switched to digital systems. In third and fourth generation systems data rate and quality of service was increased. A big change from the third to fourth generation networks was being an all IP network, meaning everything including voice and data were transmitted in packet switched networks. This creates...

Parallel Layers of Strategic Renewal and the Leveraging Role of Organizational Structure

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Aghajanian, Simineh (Author) ; Mashayekhi, Ali Naghi (Supervisor) ; Alavi, Babak (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the research areas less-addresses in the field of strategy – especially with a process approach – is strategic renewal. Strategic renewal is crucial for sustainable success of an organization. However, there are limited studies focused on strategic renewal, its implementation, and factors affecting its successive success. Process view is also less applied despite its importance both in understanding different steps of renewal and determining motivators and impediments. Therefore, this study tries to do a process-oriented research on strategic renewal, considering the gaps in extant process models on renewal. For this aim, an embedded single case study is applied and some successful...

Inferring the Demographic History of Iranian Populations from Whole Exome Sequencing Data

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Heidari, Jalal (Author) ; Motahari, Abolfazl (Supervisor) ; Khalaj, Babak (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the cornerstones of population genetics is finding ancestral relations between people of a population. Mutations and recombinations are two major signals that can be exploited to infer the population ancestral relationships. Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) has paved the way for achieving this endeavor by providing massive data including single nucleotide polymorphisms, insertions, and deletions as well as structural variations between individuals. In this thesis, the goal is to infer the ancestral structure of a given gene from thousands of NGS datasets. We also attempt to decode times of important events including mutations and recombinations. To this end, we first split a gene into...

    , Article International Journal of Mechanical Sciences ; Volume 53, Issue 9 , 2011 , Pages 777-785 ; 00207403 (ISSN) Hashemi, R ; Kargarnovin, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
The present paper addresses an analytical method to determine the overall behavior of piezocomposite materials containing body centered cubic (BCC) distribution of arbitrary oriented ellipsoidal heterogeneities. This approach is based on the extension of the electromechanical equivalent inclusion method (EMEIM) to interacting multi-inhomogeneities. In this treatment the short and long range interactions of the piezoelectric particles are appropriately incorporated through the homogenizing eigenstrainelectric field. The periodicity of the microstructure of the medium suggests representing the eigenfields in terms of Fourier series, accounting for the matrixparticle, interparticle and...

Evaluation of energy-based modal pushover analysis in reinforced concrete frames with elevation irregularity

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 17, Issue 2 A , 2010 , Pages 96-106 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Hashemi, M. J ; Mofid, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
In nonlinear static (pushover) methods of analysis as an alternative to time history analysis, the capacity curve of the structure is established with respect to the roof displacement. Disproportionate increases in the roof displacement and even outright reversals of the higher modes can distort the capacity curve of the equivalent single degree of freedom system in these kinds of method, including MPA. To overcome this problem, recently, "Energy-Based" the Modal Pushover Analysis (Energy-Based MPA) method has been introduced. In this method, the absorbed energy and/or the external work in the pushover analysis is considered. Accordingly, the assessment of the Energy-Based MPA method is...
