, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadi, Hamid (Author) ; Mofid, Masood (Supervisor)
    Abstract
To investigate the accurate performance of a structure, the knowledge of the way its connections function, is of great importance. Moreover, cognition of the actual behavior of connections which is often semi-rigid can lead to better apprehension of the actual and more accurate behavior of structures, whilst it is often considered to be pinned or fully-rigid.Therefore, in this study a new semi-rigid steel connection of beam to column will be introduced, and its behavior will be investigated using commercial finite element packages along with mathematical approximate modeling methods. One of the features of this connection is that its behavior mainly depends uponfolding of top and bottom...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadi, Yousef (Author) ; Arjmand, Navid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Low back pains (LBP) are prevalent and costly. One of the important factors causing LBP is excessive axial compression and shear forces that are applied on the intervertebral discs during different activities. Due to lack of direct in vivo measurement methods for estimating these loads, musculoskeletal biomechanical models have been emerged as indispensable tools under various activities. Different biomechanical models have been suggested to estimate muscle forces and spinal loads base on optimization, EMG and hybrid (EMG assisted optimization, EMGAO) methods. Although there have been a number of studies on the differences between various optimization and EMG-based methods, there has been no...

    Abstract
Over the time, multistaging has proved to have some great benefits such as less electrical usage, so, nowadays; optimization of the electrical power usage in centrifugal compressors is an important issue to lead to the least usage of power. In this paper, we present a novel algorithm that provides this desire; it also shows different arrangement of the stages for the considered compressor. Simple single-stage compressor pressure ratio is normally limited by constraints of both aerodynamic and structural types. Reaching to minimum power leads to the least usage of electrical power. In this paper, we utilize theoretical relations which are extracted and have been presented a novel numerical...

    , Article Applied Thermal Engineering ; Volume 61, Issue 2 , 2013 , Pages 500-506 ; 13594311 (ISSN) Mohammadi, S ; Farhadi, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
A brass vortex tube with changeable parts is used to obtain the optimum nozzle intake numbers and diameter. The effects of inlet pressure and CF (cold fraction) are also investigated. Results illustrate that increasing the number of nozzles causes a temperature drop and the optimum nozzle diameter corresponds to quarter of vortex tube diameter. The distance between cold end orifice and nozzle intakes is investigated in this work and it is found that for a better performance, this distance should be decreased. A series of experiments conducted to investigate the CF effect on VT performance and an optimum amount for this parameter is found. A two-dimensional computational fluid dynamics...

    , Article 2015 International Conference on Sampling Theory and Applications, SampTA 2015, 25 May 2015 through 29 May 2015 ; 2015 , Pages 468-472 ; 9781467373531 (ISBN) Mohammadi, E ; Marvasti, F ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2015
    Abstract
In this paper, the optimal sampling strategies (uniform or nonuniform) and distortion tradeoffs for stationary bandlimited periodic signals are studied. We justify and use both the average and variance of distortion as the performance criteria. To compute the optimal distortion, one needs to find the optimal sampling locations, as well as the optimal pre-sampling filter. A complete characterization of the optimal distortion for the rates lower than half the Landau rate is provided. It is shown that nonuniform sampling outperforms uniform sampling. In addition, this nonuniform sampling is robust with respect to missing samples. Next, for the rates higher than half the Landau rate, we find...

An engineered infilled frame: Behavior and calibration

    , Article Journal of Constructional Steel Research ; Volume 66, Issue 6 , June , 2010 , Pages 842-849 ; 0143974X (ISSN) Mohammadi, M ; Akrami, V ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
The results of an experimental investigation on some engineered infilled frames with high ductility and adjustable strength are presented in this paper. To achieve an engineered infilled frame, an element is added to the infill, called Frictional Sliding Fuses (FSFs). The fuse acts before infill corner crushing and controls the infill so that it is not overloaded. Consequently, it increases the deformation capacity and decreases the strength deterioration. An FSF has a frictional nature, based on which the infill has more appropriate hysteresis cycles, leading to more structural energy damping during earthquakes. The results show that the engineered infilled frames have adjustable strength,...

    Abstract
Some factors like environmental conditions and manufacturing errors affect performance of a MEMS rate gyroscope. Because they may result to parameter mismatch between the designed gyroscope and the fabricated one. The Parametrically excited gyros are more robust to these changes than the harmonically excited gyros. However, these types of gyros also experience reduction in their accuracy in angular velocity determination due to these changes. One of parameters that affect the accuracy of the gyroscope is quadrature error that here, its effect in the accuracy of angular velocity determination is investigated in two typically designed harmonically and parametrically excited MEMS gyroscopes....

    Abstract
In this paper, the optimal sampling strategies (uniform or nonuniform) and distortion tradeoffs for Gaussian bandlimited periodic signals with additive white Gaussian noise are studied. Our emphasis is on characterizing the optimal sampling locations as well as the optimal pre-sampling filter to minimize the reconstruction distortion. We first show that to achieve the optimal distortion, no pre-sampling filter is necessary for any arbitrary sampling rate. Then, we provide a complete characterization of optimal distortion for low and high sampling rates (with respect to the signal bandwidth). We also provide bounds on the reconstruction distortion for rates in the intermediate region. It is...
