, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taherkhani, Reza (Author) ; Habibi, J. (Jafar) (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Software architecture has been known as one of the fundamental elements of effective software development process. In order to improve and optimize the software architecture design, many attempts have been made among which are introducing architectural patterns. Because of high advantages of service-oriented architecture, it is considered as one of the main interests of software developers. It should be noted, however, that getting advantages from service-oriented architecture is not possible without having an efficient management within its processes. In other words, using service-oriented architecture without considering its process management challenges, can lead to increased costs and...

RKKY interaction in heavily vacant graphene

    , Article Journal of Physics Condensed Matter ; Volume 25, Issue 37 , August , 2013 ; 09538984 (ISSN) Habibi, A ; Jafari, S. A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Dirac electrons in clean graphene can mediate the interactions between two localized magnetic moments. The functional form of the RKKY interaction in pristine graphene is specified by two main features: (i) an atomic-scale oscillatory part determined by a wavevector → connecting the two valleys; with doping another longer range oscillation appears which arises from the existence of an extended Fermi surface characterized by a momentum scale kF; (ii) an algebraic Rα decay in large distances where the exponent α=-3 is a distinct feature of undoped Dirac sea in two dimensions. In this work, we investigate the effect of a few per cent vacancies on the above properties. Depending on the doping...

    Abstract
Internet of Things (IoT) is a concept which implies billions of smart objects being connected to the Internet and realizing the smart city. These smart objects generate massive amounts of data and send it to the cloud for process. In reality, sending all the data to the cloud isnn not performant and consumes a lot of energy, therefore fog computing which is a newer concept presented in recent years can be a solution to this problem. By moving the computations to the edge of the network and end devices, fog computing has reduced the cloud approach challenges and is more flexible and scalable. On the other side, software defined networking, with it’s most significant feature which is...

In recent years horizontal Ground Heat Exchangers (GHEs) has attracted a growing interest as heat source/sink for ground source heat pump systems. Horizontal GHEs initial installation costs are lower than the vertical ones; however, they require larger land area and more pipes. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce their required land area and pipe length by improving their thermal performance. In this study, a numerical modal based on 3-D simulation of GHE with computational fluid dynamics methods is developed. The model is used to evaluate the thermal performance and initial installation cost of horizontal GHEs. Four different types of horizontal GHEs: linear, spiral, horizontal and...

Safe Personalized Treatment Recommendation System for Multimorbidity

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ghasempour, Elahe (Author) ; Habibi, Jafar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Multimorbidity in an individual is a typical and increasing condition and a major challenge in healthcare. The goal of treatment recommendation for such patients is to decide the most effective combination of treatments. Doctors typically prescribe medication based on their intuition and experience. However, due to knowledge gaps or unintended biases, often times these clinical decisions can be sub-optimal. Broad adoption and usage of electronic health records (EHRs) in the last decade has opened up a great opportunity to leverage healthcare data to improve clinical decisions. In this approach we use EHR and drug-drug interaction (DDI) information to prescribe medications. We use multiple...

Cloud Federation by Leveraging Spot Prices

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Haghshenas, Hamid (Author) ; Habibi, Jafar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In cloud federation, a number of cloud service providers (CSP) interoperate to rent each other's computing resources. When a CSP finds a lack in its resources, it can use other CSPs' spare resources for its jobs. This way, the number of physical resources needed by CSPs decreases, since they don't need a pessimistic forecast for resource provision. In this thesis, we analyze possibility of such federation from an architectural viewpoint and then, propose a model to realize such federation. First, we study architectural requirements of cloud federation. A number of important requirements are gathered from previous work. These requirements are then categorized and prioritized, showing that...
