Rcci Curvature for Metric-Measure Space via Optimal Transport

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taheri, Abolfazl (Author) ; Bahraini, Alireza (Supervisor) ; Ranjbar Motlagh, Alireza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
One of the important questions in mathematics is generalized. In case of metric spaces, one of the questions is: Can we extend notions of Riemannian geometry to arbitrary metric spaces smoothly? Ricci curvature is one of the most important concepts in differential geometry. Ricci curvature is defined for the Riemannian manifold and has many applications in mathematics and physics like Einstein’s equation in relativity theory. There is a good notion for a metric space having “sectional curvature bounded below by K” or “sectional curvature bounded above by K”, due to Alexandrov. Can we define the concept of Ricci curvature in metric space? A motivation for this question comes from Gromov’s...

    Abstract
Seismic design codes reduce loads by using response modification factor. Because of the reserved strength in structural elements and capacity of structure to dissipate energy, structures can be designed for lower seismic loads. This factor has modified over time. In this thesis, the effect of the reduction in behavior factor on the response of two kinds of reinforced concrete systems were evaluated. Moment resisting frames and dual systems with different heights and regularity in plan, heve been design according to the behavior factor which is recommended in the 3rd edition of the Iranian codes of practice for seismic resistance design of buildings (Standard No. 2800). Drift and...

    Abstract
Cost Estimation plays an essential and role in UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) Projects. By increasing the complexity of new unmanned systems, the importance of this task augments. Additionally, up to now, a comprehensive approach has not been adopted internationally. But in parallel a number of international companies and organizations has developed specific methods by themselves; confined to their corporate.
This project pursues developing a complexity-based model for cost estimation of unmanned aerial vehicles, especially Jet UAVs. However, it’s anticipated that this model may be utilized for all kind of systems, but it seems that jet UAVs use it with a better and more reliable...

Analysis of a Two-Echelon Inventory Model with Lost Sales and Stochastic Demand using Continuous-Time Markov Chain

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Vasheghani Farahani, Iman (Author) ; Haji, Rasoul (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this paper, we studied a two-echelon inventory system which consists of one central warehouse and one retailer. All installations follow base stock inventory management policy. The customers arrive at retailer according to Poisson distribution. The demand is satisfied when both central warehouse and retailer have positive on-hand inventory. Otherwise, the demand is lost. The lead time of central warehouse and the time needed to replenish orders of retailer are assumed to be exponentially distributed. The purpose of this study is to minimize the expected long-run total cost of the system per unit time. Total cost of the system includes holding costs of central warehouse and retailer, cost...

    Abstract
Although inventory control under discrete demand in dynamic quantities and time intervals are very common in reality, existing literature has largely ignored them. In this paper, we investigate the inventory control decisions in a two echelon supply chain consists of one vendor and several retailers. The vendor supplies a product to several retailers, buying discrete quantities in pre-determined time intervals. The order quantity and order cycles for each retailer can be different from others. Vendor orders the required quantity from supplier and it'll be immediately received at the vendor's warehouse. In this system, shortage is not allowed for the vendor. The transportation time from the...

Analyzing and Modeling of Semi-hinged Connections in Steel Structure

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haji kazemi, Mohsen (Author) ; Mofid, Massoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Double angle connections, which are welded to the beam web and bolted to the column flange, are usually used to make hinged or semi-hinged connections. Several models are presented in this study whose geometrical properties are different. The finite element software package is used to develop the finite element analysis of the connections. An analytical method is presented that can be used to determine the behavior and deformation for this type of connection. The correctness of Moment-rotation curves of finite element analysis for each connection has been ascertained by comparison, using analytical technique; and a very good agreement has been obtained

The M/M/1 queue with inventory, lost sale, and general lead times

    , Article Queueing Systems ; Volume 75, Issue 1 , January , 2013 , Pages 65-77 ; 02570130 (ISSN) Saffari, M ; Asmussen, S ; Haji, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
We consider an M/M/1 queueing system with inventory under the (r,Q) policy and with lost sales, in which demands occur according to a Poisson process and service times are exponentially distributed. All arriving customers during stockout are lost. We derive the stationary distributions of the joint queue length (number of customers in the system) and on-hand inventory when lead times are random variables and can take various distributions. The derived stationary distributions are used to formulate long-run average performance measures and cost functions in some numerical examples

One for one period policy for perishable inventory

    , Article Computers and Industrial Engineering ; Volume 79 , January , 2015 , Pages 10-17 ; 03608352 (ISSN) Mahmoodi, A ; Haji, A ; Haji, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2015
    Abstract
Recently, for zero ordering cost a new ordering policy named (1, T), in which the time interval between two consecutive orders and the value of the order size are both constant, have been developed for nonperishable products. In this paper, the (1, T) policy is developed for perishable products. Using an analogy among this inventory model, a queueing model with impatient customers, and a finite dam model, the long-run average total cost function of the inventory system is derived. It is observed that the total cost rate is independent from the lead time as is for nonperishable products. Since analyzing the convexity of the model is extremely complicated, a proposition is proved to define a...

Stable transports between stationary random measures

    , Article Electronic Journal of Probability ; Volume 21 , 2016 ; 10836489 (ISSN) Haji-Mirsadegh, M. O ; Khezeli, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We give an algorithm to construct a translation-invariant transport kernel between two arbitrary ergodic stationary random measures on Rd, given that they have equal intensities. As a result, this yields a construction of a shift-coupling of an arbitrary ergodic stationary random measure and its Palm version. This algorithm constructs the transport kernel in a deterministic manner given a pair of realizations of the two measures. The (non-constructive) existence of such a transport kernel was proved in [9].Our algorithm is a generalization of the work of [3], in which a construction is provided for the Lebesgue measure and an ergodic simple point process. In the general case, we limit ourselves...

A two-echelon inventory model with perishable items and lost sales

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 23, Issue 5 , 2016 , Pages 2277-2286 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Mahmoodi, A ; Haji, A ; Haji, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This article deals with a single perishable item, continuous-review, two-echelon serial inventory system consisting of a warehouse and a retailer. Customer demands at the retailer are assumed to be Poisson. All items have a fixed shelf life and start aging on their arrival at the retailer. The demand that cannot be met immediately at the retailer is lost. All transportation times are fixed. If there is any stock in the warehouse, the lead time for the retailer would be the transportation time from the warehouse. Otherwise, the retailer orders are met with a delay. In this article, using an approximate technique, we first present a heuristic for finding cost-effective base stock policy and...

Sparse Quadratic Discriminant Analysis and Community Bayes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bybordi, Arezoo (Author) ; Haji Mirsadeghi, Miromid (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, various methods for solving the classification problem with algorithms for some of their estimations, will be discussed. First, linear discriminant analysis (LDA), which is the most basic likelihood based method of classification is studied. In the next section, regularized discriminant analysis, a version of LDA in which the covariance matrix of each class is shrank toward the identity matrix, is studied. Then the ridge fusion in which a penalty is added to the likelihood function so that in the joint estimation of covariance matrices of dierent classes, all arrays become equal as much as possible is discussed. In the joint graphical lasso, precision matrices of dierent...

Enhancement of Electric Energy Distribution System Performance in the Presence of Electric Vehicles as Mobile Energy Storage Devices

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Haji Abolhassani, Milad (Author) ; Safdarian, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract

The worldwide increase in greenhouse gases is one of the most important human concerns today, and reducing emissions is on the agenda of politicians and the international community. Globally, the transportation fleet is one of the major sources of environmental pollutants due to the use of fossil fuels, and replacing this fleet with electric vehicles will play an important role in reducing the emission of environmental pollutants. These environmental concerns and the advancement of technologies used in electric vehicles in recent years have led to a relative increase in the presence of electric vehicles in the transportation network. The acceptance of these cars, on the one hand,...

    Abstract
In this paper we develop two models; the without shortages and the completely backlogging shortages with the price dependant demand rate under time value of money and inflation, finite time horizon and exponentially deterioration rate with the objective of maximizing the present worth of the total system profit. Using the dynamic programming method for each model, we are able to obtain different selling price, order quantity and cycle length for each cycle. We also use a proper numerical example to show accuracy of the solution procedures and to compare the results. This research and its results are unique and have never been concluded before

Economic batch quantity with setup time for immediate and delayed rework

    , Article IIE Annual Conference and Expo 2007 - Industrial Engineering's Critical Role in a Flat World, Nashville, TN, 19 May 2007 through 23 May 2007 ; 2007 , Pages 1666-1671 Haji, B ; Haji, R ; Ghayoor, Z ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
This paper considers economic batch quantity (EBQ) in a single machine system in which defective items are produced and are all reworked in the same cycle. In the literature of inventory control, when the rework is done in the same cycle, the setup times are not considered; the rework process starts immediately after each production run, and the waiting of defectives for rework is ignored. Considering these points we assume non-zero setup times for rework, delayed rework in the same cycle, and the cost of waiting, to obtain the EBQ for two different cases

Economic batch quantity with rework and storage capacity constraint

    Abstract
In this paper we consider a single stage production system in which defective items are produced in each cycle of production. In the litrature of inventory control when the rework is done on defective items it is assumed that the storage space is unlimited and the setup time for rework is ignored. Here we assume that the storage space is limited and due to the nature of the rework process its production rate is different from the normal production rate. We also assume that after each production run the rework process starts immediately after a non-zero setup time for the rework. Further we assume that the unit operation processing cost during the normal production and rework proccessing...
