    Topics of Stochastic Algebraic Topology

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jahangardi, Mostafa (Author) ; Jafari, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Stochastic Algebraic Topology studies stochastic or less known spaces that depend on many random variables from the perspective of algebra. Examples of such spaces included random graphs of Erdos and Renyi and random simplicial spaces of higher dimension . In this thesis , we study algebraic aspects of these spaces such as homotopy groups and homology groups from probabilistic point of view , when the number of vertices of these spaces tend to infinity . The study of these spaces have a lot of applications, since the data for a given space can be incomplete . They are also used in big system structures. We have given a collection of new results in stochastic algebraic topology of two...

    Interface between tire and pavement

    , Article Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering ; Volume 29, Issue 9 , 2017 ; 08991561 (ISSN) Jafari, K ; Toufigh, V ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
Sliding friction between a pavement and tire is an important concern in traffic safety. The British pendulum test has been used worldwide to evaluate friction characteristics of pavement surfaces. However, because of considerable differences in apparatus, procedures, and operation, significant variability can occur for evaluations of British pendulum number (BPN). In this investigation, a direct shear test (DST) device is modified and proposed to determine the sliding friction coefficient between tire and pavement surface under dry and wet conditions. Dissipated energy values obtained from DST were compared with evaluations of BPN, and a high correlation was obtained. Tests were done using...

Tannakian formalism for fiber functors over tensor categories

    , Article Periodica Mathematica Hungarica ; 2017 , Pages 1-26 ; 00315303 (ISSN) Jafari, A ; Einollahzadeh, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2017
    Abstract
In this paper we generalize Tannakian formalism to fiber functors over general tensor categories. We will show that (under some technical conditions) if the fiber functor has a section, then the source category is equivalent to the category of comodules over a Hopf algebra in the target category. We will also give a description of this Hopf algebra using the notion of framed objects. © 2017 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary

Intersection Theory of Moduli Space of Stable N-Pointed Curves of Genus Zero

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hassani, Mahyar (Author) ; Jafari, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A moduli spase consists in classifying geometric objects up tp equivalence relations and its point are in 1-1 corrospondence with equivalence classes. One of the most important moduli spaces in algebraic geometry is «moduli space of stable n-pointed curves of genus zero» which has many applications in mathematics and theoretical physics. In [10] Knudsen shows that for every n 3 there is a smooth projective variety Xn that is a moduli space for stable n-pointed curves of genus zero.In this thesis we study moduli spaces and introduce Xn and its relation with cross ratios. This way we show Xn is smooth projective variety and a fine moduli space. [5] After that we study a paper by Sean Keel. [9]...

Phase diagram of the one-dimensional S= 1 2 XXZ model with ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor and antiferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbor interactions

    , Article Physical Review B - Condensed Matter and Materials Physics ; Volume 76, Issue 1 , 2007 ; 10980121 (ISSN) Jafari, R ; Langari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
We have studied the phase diagram of the one-dimensional S= 1 2 XXZ model with ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor and antiferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbor interactions. We have applied the quantum renormalization group (QRG) approach to obtain stable fixed points and the scaling of coupling constants. The QRG prescription has to be implemented to the second order of interblock interactions to obtain a self-similar Hamiltonian after each step of the QRG. This model shows a rich phase diagram which includes quantum spin-fluid and dimer phases in addition to the classical Néel and ferromagnetic ones. We have found the border between different phases by tracing the scaling of coupling constants....

An efficient intra prediction mode decision algorithm for H.263 to H.264 transcoding

    , Article IEEE International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications, 2006, Sharjah, 8 March 2006 through 8 March 2006 ; Volume 2006 , 2006 , Pages 1082-1089 ; 1424402123 (ISBN); 9781424402120 (ISBN) Jafari, M ; Kasaei, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    IEEE Computer Society  2006
    Abstract
Video transcoding comprises the necessary operations for the conversion of a compressed video stream from one syntax to another one for inter-network communications, without the need of any further decoding and re-encoding process. The two most recent and popular standard video coders are H.263 and H.264. In this paper, we present tools to enable low complexity intra transcoding from H.263 to H.264 using a novel fast intra prediction mode decision algorithm that does not require extra computation. It is shown that due to basic similarities of H.263 and H.264 it is possible to reuse predictor side information, so this side information is used to simplify the mode and direction decision for...

Estimation of the Compressive Strength of GGBFS based Alkali-Activated Concrete

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafari, Alireza (Author) ; Toufigh, Vahab (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) based alkali-activated concrete (GAAC) is one of the eco-friendly alternatives of traditional concrete, which uses industrial byproducts instead of ordinary Portland cement (OPC). Besides environmental benefits, substituting OPC concrete with GAAC has some economic advantages, while it successfully meets the concrete structural requirements in both mechanical and durability characteristics. Despite this fact, employing GAAC in the construction industry has been limited due to a lack of standard mix design code. This study aims to develop an accurate prediction model for the compressive strength of GAAC by employing the most appropriate machine...

    Topological Graph Theory

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Najafian, Abolfazl (Author) ; Jafari, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The primary goal of this thesis is to study the chromatic number of Kneser hypergraphs that made a connection between topology and combinatorics. We mention simplicial complexes, Fan’s and Tuckers lemma’s, nerve’s lemma, and topological Tverberg theorem as some tools for investigating the chromatic number of these graphs. Many of the concepts and propositions expressed in this paper, such as those mentioned above, are topological propositions about combinatorial objects, and vice versa. Using such connections, you can use the tools of each branch in another and use their combination

    , Article Journal of Applied Sciences ; Volume 8, Issue 20 , 2008 , Pages 3669-3675 ; 18125654 (ISSN) Jafari, R ; Golnabi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Design and operation of an opto-mechanical system for spectral analysis using a double fiber design for light delivery are reported in this study. A simple mechanical drive system is used, which is able to perform a fine course of angular motion for the scanning of the dispersive optical element. The presented system consists of a mechanical drive system, a dispersive element, a double fiber assembly and a photodetector. A source light, a digital multimeter and a PC are used to test the presented design. The first-order diffraction of the white light source is obtained by using a reflection diffraction grating in Littrow arrangement. By comparing the output reflection signals of the plane...

On abelian and homomorphic secret sharing schemes

    , Article Journal of Cryptology ; Volume 34, Issue 4 , 2021 ; 09332790 (ISSN) Jafari, A ; Khazaei, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer  2021
    Abstract
Homomorphic (resp. abelian) secret sharing is a generalization of ubiquitous linear secret sharing in which the secret value and the shares are taken from finite (resp. abelian) groups instead of vector spaces over a finite field. Homomorphic secret sharing was first defined by Benaloh and, later in the early nineties, Frankel and Desmedt presented some relevant results. Except for a few other related topics such as black-box secret sharing and secret sharing over rings, the subject has remained dormant for about three decades. The study of homomorphic secret sharing is resumed in this paper and three main results are presented: (1) mixed-linear schemes, a subclass of abelian schemes to be...

Iran-India Energy Relations: Designing a Framework for Cooperation between the Two Countries to Maximize Iran's Gas Export to India

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafari, Navid (Author) ; Maleki, Abbas (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Iran has the second largest natural gas resources in the world and these rich resources provide Iran with good potential for exporting natural gas but so far this potential has not been used well. In contrast, India is a major importer of these energy carriers due to high energy consumption and low level of energy production, especially oil and natural gas production, and continues to increase its imports so that its natural gas imports in 2018 equals 30 billion cubic meters, the IEA expects to reach 85 billion cubic meters by 2040. So the two countries can complement each other in the field of natural gas, such as crude oil and have close relations. In this study, using AHP, Iran's gas...

Experimental Study of Spray Pattern of Two Impinging Jets of Non-Newtonian Gel Fluid Containing Aluminum Nanoparticles

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafari, Maryam (Author) ; Kebriaee, Azadeh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In most of the studies conducted on the physics of the outflow from impinging jet injectors, Newtonian fluids have been used for their research and experiments. These studies have investigated the effect of factors such as geometrical parameters of the injector and physical properties of the fluid on different regimes resulting from the impact of the jet stream; Unfortunately, very few studies have been conducted on how to form spray and atomization in gel non-Newtonian fluids containing nanoparticles to investigate the above factors when using impinging jet injectors. Furthermore, although the addition of nanoparticles has advantages for better combustion, there are still problems in...

On ternary quadratic forms over the rational numbers

    , Article Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal ; Volume 72, Issue 4 , 2022 , Pages 1105-1119 ; 00114642 (ISSN) Jafari, A ; Rostamkhani, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
For a ternary quadratic form over the rational numbers, we characterize the set of rational numbers represented by that form over the rational numbers. Consequently, we reprove the classical fact that any positive definite integral ternary quadratic form must fail to represent infinitely many positive integers over the rational numbers. Our proof uses only the quadratic reciprocity law and the Hasse-Minkowski theorem, and is elementary. © 2022, Institute of Mathematics, Czech Academy of Sciences

Aero-Structural Optimization of a Blended Wing Body Aircraft Configuration in the Conceptual Design Phase

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafari, Arash (Author) ; Pourtakdoust, Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The current research is devoted to the design and optimization of a Blended Wing Body aircraft configuration in the conceptual design phase. In this respect, two objective functions with eight design variables have been considered within the optimization process in order to reach to a desired design. The key objective functions include the aerodynamic efficiency as well as the aircraft empty weight alongside the longitudinal stability requirement that are accounted for within the Genetic algorithm optimization loop. In this regard, some analytical and semi-empirical relations are utilized to determine the aerodynamic and structural characteristics of different designs alongside the numerical...

Algebraic Topology Metheds on Graph Coloring

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Pouria Omidi (Author) ; Jafari, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to introduce some algebraic topologies methods and apply them on fining the chromatic number of some famous graphs and also hypergraphs. In the first part, we will use a mixture of two well-known technics, Tucker lemma and Discrete Morse theory to find an upper bound for the chromatic number of s-stable Kneser for some specific vector s. to find the sharper upper bound, we will deviate our strategy and use another approach by finding an edge-labeling and apply some theorems in POSET algebraic topology. In this way, we also find a connection between Young diagrams and the numbers of spheres in the box complex related to Kneser graphs and hypergraph. Actually, we can...

Fast intra-prediction mode decision in H.264 advanced video coding

    , Article 10th IEEE Singapore International Conference on Communications Systems, ICCS 2006, Singapore, 30 October 2006 through 1 November 2006 ; 2006 ; 1424404118 (ISBN); 9781424404117 (ISBN) Jafari, M ; Kasaei, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2006
    Abstract
H.264/AVC, the latest video coding standard, achieves better video compression rates since it supports new features such as a large number of intra- and inter-prediction candidate modes. H.264/AVC adopts rate-distortion optimization (RDO) technique to obtain the best intra- and inter-prediction, while maximizing visual quality and minimizing the required bit rate. However, the RDO reduces the encoding speed via the exhaustive evaluation of all candidate modes. In this paper, we decrease the encoding time by reducing the computational complexity of the prediction function and the number of candidate modes. First, we improve Pan's method, by eliminating the DC mode from the candidates. Second,...

    Abstract
With the advance of multimedia systems and wireless mobile communications, there has been a growing need to support multimedia services (such as mobile teleconferencing, mobile TV, telemedicine, and distance learning) using mobile multimedia technologies. Despite the research done in the field of mobile multimedia, delivery of real-time interactive video over noisy wireless channels is still a challenge for researchers. This paper presents a method for prioritising data partitioned MPEG-4 video in a way suitable for transmission over a mobile network. The effectiveness of the technique is demonstrated by examing its performance when the transport of the prioritized video streams can be...

Identification of Oil Spills in the Ocean using Remote Sensing and Near Real-Time Trajectory Case study: Persian Gulf

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafari, Reza (Author) ; Raie, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Knowing the location and time of oil accidents and trying to track the pollution caused by these accidents is very important for the purpose of monitoring and protecting the environment. The occurrence of large oil spills in the marine environment can have serious environmental, social and economic consequences. In this research, oil spills in the Persian Gulf were first identified using remote sensing method and Sentinel-1 satellite images. The images of this satellite were called for the processes needed to identify oil spills in Google Earth Engine space. After detecting the oil spills, it is necessary to determine the duplicate spills and remove these types of spills, as well as estimate...

Adaptive Controller Design for an Insect-Like Flapping Wing

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafari, Mohabbat (Author) ; Banazadeh, Afshin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, the nonlinear modeling of insect-like flapping-wing was investigated as a multi-body system using the Newton-Euler method. This modeling, in addition to aerodynamic effects, has specifically addressed the effect of mass and inertia of the wings in the equations on the dynamics of the system. Then, by transforming the equations into a state-space form, a model reference adaptive controller was designed with Lyapunov stability proof. This controller enables optimal control performance in the face of variations caused by the uncertainty of the flapping-wing parameters, considering the fast dynamics of the control actuators and introducing an optimally linearized reference system....

Investigation of Microstructure and Mechanical Properties after Performing Cold Rolling and Annealing on Severely Deformed Low Carbon Steel

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Jafari, Zahra (Author) ; Kazeminezhad, Mohsen (Supervisor)
    Abstract
According to the conducted research, severe deformation of low-carbon steel sheets using the constrained groove pressing method causes a decrease in grain size and increases the strength and hardness of the sample after one pass. However, continuing this process in subsequent passes does not significantly increase strength and hardness, and sometimes it remains constant. Therefore, in this project, cold rolling has been used to improve the strength of the steel sheet and improve the surface smoothness of the final piece. After severe deformation and rolling due to the high applied strain, the strength of the sample increased and the percentage of its elongation decreased. Therefore,...
