A Study of the Strain Rise Phenomenon in Steel Components, and its Detrimental Effect on the Seismic Performance of Structural Elements

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Sadrara, Ali (Author) ; Moghaddam, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, the strain rise phenomenon and its adverse effect on the deformation capacity of steel elements, members, and connectors were investigated. The high-rate increase in plastic strains was termed strain rise. In this study, the sharp increase in plastic strains and its causes were investigated through conducting experiments and extensive numerical analyses. The causes of strain rise were fallen into two categories as primary and secondary. To limit the adverse effect of strain rise two methods of decreasing the initial stress concentration and expanding the plastic volume were proposed. The strain rise in the saddle and pre-Northridge connections as a result of primary effects...

    Abstract
Motion blur is one of the most common blurs that degrades images. Restoration of such images are highly dependent to estimation of motion blur parameters. Many researchers have developed algorithms to estimate linear motion blur parameters. These algorithms are different in their performance, time complexity, precision and their robustness in noisy environments. In this paper we have presented a novel algorithm to estimate linear motion blur parameters such as direction and extend by using Radon transform to find direction and fuzzy set concepts to find its extend. The most benefit of this algorithm is its robustness and precision in noisy images. Our method was tested on a wide range of...

    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
An efficient and facile one-pot, five-component reaction for the synthesis of 2,6-diamino-1-alkyl-2-oxospiro[indoline-3,4′-thiopyran]-3,5-dicarbonitrile derivatives has been reported by a reaction between primary amines, carbon disulfide, malononitrile, and isatin derivatives. The major advantages of this procedure are high yields of products in relatively short reaction time, scalability, mild conditions, multi-component synthetic procedure, low catalyst loading, no column separation and simple reaction work-up. As a consequence, this synthetic procedure provided an efficient access to spirooxindole-annulated thiopyran derivatives. © 2022

A novel predictive-reactive rescheduling method for products assembly lines with optimal dynamic pegging

    , Article Computers and Industrial Engineering ; Volume 171 , Volume 171 , 2022 ; 03608352 (ISSN) Moghaddam, S. K ; Saitou, K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
In this paper a new predictive-reactive rescheduling method is presented based on the dynamic pegging concept. Scheduling adjustments in a multi-level, mixed-model production system are invoked in response to the unplanned events, such as new order arrival, changes in due dates, and order cancellation. By using the dynamic pegging approach at the time of rescheduling, Work-In-Progress (WIP) can be reassigned to the existing or new orders. Based on our previous work on reactive-only rescheduling with dynamic pegging, a Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) model is developed for predictive-reactive scheduling of new orders of different product types that arrive following exponential distribution. A...

Performance evaluation and improvement of PC-SAFT equation of state for the asphaltene precipitation modeling during mixing with various fluid types

    , Article Fluid Phase Equilibria ; Volume 554 , 2022 ; 03783812 (ISSN) Kariman Moghaddam, A ; Jamshidi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
One of the significant problems of the upstream flow assurance community is precipitation or deposition of asphaltene that leads to affect the economics of oil production seriously. Knowledge of asphaltene onset pressure (AOP) and amount of asphaltene precipitation in the change of temperature, pressure, and composition is the essential information for preventing this problem. Recent studies have shown that thermodynamic models based on the solubility nature of asphaltenes using an equation of state (EOS) are the most effective approach to asphaltene behavior modeling. In this research, the common version of the SAFT equation, known as the Perturbed Chain form of Statistical Association...

    Abstract
A comprehensive study was carried out for the first time on the acidity of eleven different leaves. After functionalization of the leaves with –SO3H groups, the most acidic one was magnetized using nickel ferrite nanoparticles. This novel, inexpensive, green and biodegradable catalyst showed high activity in the synthesis of pyrazoline and 2-amino nicotinonitriles. Some compounds are new and have never been synthesized before and confirmed by FT-IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR analysis. All of these compounds possess multiple biological activities. The heterogeneous magnetic catalyst (NiFe2O4-Alnus-SO3H) was characterized by various physicochemical techniques such as FT-IR spectroscopy, field...

    Abstract
The success of restoring images degraded by motion blur highly depends on precise estimation of parameters such as motion direction and length that were involved in the motion blur function. In this paper we suggest a method which uses Radon transform to estimate motion direction and for estimating motion length we used curve fitting methods to provide an equation that could model the behaviour of Fourier transform of images that were degraded with different motion lengths. The input to this model is a property found to be available in the Fourier transform of the degraded image and its output is an estimate for the motion length. Our method was tested on a wide range of different type of...

    Abstract
ZnO nanopowder has been successfully synthesized by a microwave-assisted solution approach using Zn(CH3CO2)2.2H2O and NaOH. The results obtained from XRD, SEM and TEM show that the mean particle size is 30 nm. SEM and TEM micrographs of ZnO nanopowder also reveal that nanoparticles have spherical shape. A convenient one-pot multi-component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, enolizable ketones or β-keto esters and acetonitrile in the presence of acetyl chloride and 10 mol % ZnO nanoparticles for the synthesis of β-acetamido ketones/esters at room temperature is described. Catalytic activity of ZnO nanopowder for o-acylation of alcohol and phenol has also been investigated. On the other hand,...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Doulabi, Malihe (Author) ; Matloubi Moghaddam, Firouz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles have been successfully prepared through a controlled microwave–assisted co-precipitation as well as conventional co-precipitation. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) were used for the structural, morphological and magnetic investigation of the product. Average particle size was obtained as 12 nm from XRD. Catalytic activity of ZnFe2O4 nanopowder for O-acylation of alcohol and phenol has been investigated. A trace amount of ZnFe2O4 has been effectively used as a nanocatalyst for the acylation of alcohol and phenol in acetic anhydride.

Thioamides, Quinolinium and Isoquinolinium Salts: Useful Synthons in the Synthesis of Heterocyclic Compounds and Asymmetric Synthesis of Sulfonic acid Derivatives

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Mirjafary, Zohreh (Author) ; Matloubi Moghaddam, Firouz (Supervisor)
    Abstract
We have reported a new and efficient synthesis of a broad spectrum of heterotetracyclic benzoxazocines via unique tandem 1,3-dinucleophilic addition of different bifunctional nucleophiles to quinolinium and isoquinolinium salts. The reaction generally involves the initial addition of nucleophiles to quinolinium salts to form enamine intermediate which can be trapped by intramolecular O/S-alkylation of nucleophiles. This protocol is a very mild and simple method for construction of eight-membered ring in fused heterocycles in a one-step process. We have also developed an efficient asymmetric synthesis of α,β-disubstituted γ-bisalkoxycarbonyl and α, β- disubstituted γ- phosphono sulfonates via...
