Modeling the Kidney Market in Iran

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Naderi Tabar, Mohammad (Author) ; Fatemi Ardestani, Farshad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The purpose of this study is to model people's behavior on both sides of the kidney market. The healthy person decides to donate a live kidney (for a certain amount) on the supply side. On the demand side, the patient chooses between the two existing kidney queues, the living kidney and the cadaveric kidney, based on the individual's income and belief from the waiting time in each of the two queues. The sick person faces two critical risks in life: risk of death and kidney failure. To model these two risks, it is assumed that each person has a level of health that consists of two deterministic and stochastic parts. In this way, with a deterministic rate, a person's health level will decrease...

Role of Synchronous Sub-network in the Propagation of Synchronization to the Neuronal Population

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Naderi, Amir Mohammad (Author) ; Moghimi Araghi, Saman (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Epilepsy is one of the most common non-communicable neurological disorders, characterized by recurrent seizure symptoms. Although much progress has been made in the diagnosis, control, and treatment of epilepsy in recent years, the exact mechanism of seizures, the specific method for early diagnosis of epilepsy and related syndromes, and definitive treatment for all patients are not yet known. In a type of seizure known as focal seizure, the electrical activity of neurons at the epilepsy focus synchronizes abnormally, and this synchronization can propagate to other regions of the brain in a process called secondary generalization, which finding a method for its prevention is our essential goal...

    Abstract
Mixing of solid nanoparticles in viscous fluids is a key stage in synthesis of nanocomposites and can affect their final properties. A multi-step preparatory mixing is developed to synthesize the nanocomposites of layered silicate in thermosetting polymers. This study aims to investigate the influences of mixing conditions and steps taken to process the thermosetting nanocomposites on the viscoelastic properties of suspensions. We also examine subsequent influences of mixing on the microstructure and dispersion state of cured hybrids of organically modified clays in a polyester resin. The nanocomposites were prepared in a sequential mixing process developed for the model nanocomposites of...

    Abstract
Modeling the mechanical behavior of asphalt binders and mixtures has been the subject of intensified research in recent decades. Master curves of the norm of the complex modulus |G*| in the linear viscoelastic domain are frequently used for modeling, while phase angle master curves are less frequently considered for this purpose. Therefore in this research, an empirical model is introduced for phase angle master curves of modified and neat bituminous binders. The model is based on a general form of a double-logistic (DL) mathematical function. The |GG*| master curve was then modeled using a mutual relationship between the phase angle and |GG*|. Master curves of three neat and seven modified...

    Abstract
At the present research, a new analytical model is developed for the impact of a deformable blunt projectile to metallic targets using the plastic stress wave propagation theory and the momentum equations. At this model, the deformation of the projectile is considered, too. Also, the effects of dishing and plugging phenomena on failure of the target are investigated. All of the obtained results are compared with the experimental and other available analytical results where good agreement has been observed. The other outcome of this research is a new definition for the penetration stages which includes 9 ones. Motion equations are derived for each of these stages, accordingly

    Abstract
Group working has an important role in cellular manufacturing systems (CMS) as they can affect the work environment and job executions on machines. The most important factors affecting human resources are aspects of ability and interactional interest among workers in workshops. Here, we present a simple and efficient method considering these two aspects to deal with the assignment of workers to cells. We use interval type-2 fuzzy interactional interest among workers and the capability of working on machines to develop a new concept of cell formation in CMS. By using a multidepot multiple travelling salesman problem (MDmTSP) model, we assign workers to cells and then propose a mathematical...

Generating Mutants for User Interface Testing in Web-based Applications

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Naderi, Mohammad Javad (Author) ; Mirian Hosseinabadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, the user interface of web-based applications has become more and more complicated. Various technologies, architectures, and tools are being used to create a modern user interface. Users interact directly with the user interface, so its functionality has a significant impact on their satisfaction and it is required to design special test suites for the user interface. Furthermore, we need a method to measure the quality and effectiveness of test suites. An effective test suite is a test suite which is able to detect real faults. But this definition is ambiguous, and hence, not practical. A method called Mutation Testing solves this problem and instead of real faults, uses...

Impulse voltage distribution in intershield disk winding VS interleaved and continuous disk winding in power transformer

    , Article 2008 IEEE 2nd International Power and Energy Conference, PECon 2008, Johor Baharu, 1 December 2008 through 3 December 2008 ; 2008 , Pages 387-392 ; 9781424424054 (ISBN) Bagheri, M ; Hekmati, A ; Heidarzadeh, R ; Salay Naderi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Strike of a lightning stroke to the high voltage terminal of a power transformer results in an impulse stress on its windings. The magnitude of the series capacitance of the windings has an important effect on the impulse voltage distribution and the stresses along the windings. Increasing the series capacitances of the windings, the impulse voltage distribution becomes more linear and the stress on the winding is reduced. So interleaved windings rather than disk windings are used in power transformer windings to increase the series capacitances. In this paper, the electrostatic shielding, used in disk windings to increase the windings series capacitance, and for linearization of its impulse...

    Abstract
Very few land use regression (LUR) models have been developed for megacities in low- and middle-income countries, but such models are needed to facilitate epidemiologic research on air pollution. We developed annual and seasonal LUR models for ambient oxides of nitrogen (NO, NO2, and NOX) in the Middle Eastern city of Tehran, Iran, using 2010 data from 23 fixed monitoring stations. A novel systematic algorithm was developed for spatial modeling. The R 2 values for the LUR models ranged from 0.69 to 0.78 for NO, 0.64 to 0.75 for NO 2, and 0.61 to 0.79 for NOx. The most predictive variables were: distance to the traffic access control zone; distance to primary schools; green space; official...

A Unified Fve-Ale Approach to Solve Unsteady Laminar to Turbulent Flow on Moving Boundary Domains

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Naderi, Alireza (Author) ; Darbandi, Masoud (Supervisor) ; Taeibi Rahni, Mohammad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this study, an arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) approach is incorporated with a mixed finite- volume-element (FVE) method to establish a novel moving boundary algorithm to simulate unsteady incompressible flow on non-stationary meshes. The method collects the advantages of both finite-volume and finite-element methods as well as the ALE approach in a unified algorithm capable of solving laminar, transient, and turbulent flows in fluid flow problems with moving boundaries. To enhance the robustness of the extended algorithm, we treat the convection terms at the cell faces using a physical influence upwinding scheme, while the diffusion terms are treated using bilinear finite-element...

    Abstract
Reciprocating Machinery are one of the key components of chemical and petrochemical plants and their down time cause loss of production. Therefore condition monitoring in these machinery is of special interest and high value. In this thesis first, different methods of condition monitoring for reciprocating compressors are introduced then the main cause of high vibrations of three compressors in a refinery is investigated. Finally by using the foundation model prepared, it would be shown that insufficient strength of foundation block has lead cracks initiation and development in these foundations. Therefore high vibration is consequence of weak design

    Abstract
The emerging multimedia applications of Wireless Sensor Network (WSNs) impose new challenges in design of algorithms and communication protocols for such networks. In the view of these challenges, error control is an important mechanism that enables us to provide robust multimedia communication and maintain Quality of Service (QoS). Despite the existence of some good research works on error control analysis in WSNs, none of them provides a thorough study of error control schemes for multimedia delivery. In this paper, a comprehensive performance evaluation of Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ), Forward Error Correction (FEC), Erasure Coding (EC), link-layer hybrid FEC/ARQ, and cross-layer hybrid...

    Abstract
Aggregation services play an important role in the domain of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) because they significantly reduce the number of required data transmissions, and improve energy efficiency on those networks. In most of the existing aggregation methods that have been developed based on the mathematical models or functions, the user of the WSN has not access to the original observations. In this paper, we propose an algorithm which let the base station access the observations by introducing a distributed method for computing the Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The proposed algorithm is based on transmission workload of the intermediate nodes. By using PCA, we aggregate the...

    Abstract
Master curves of asphalt binders and mixtures have been traditionally used to evaluate their rheological behavior in the linear viscoelastic range. Different analytical models are available to describe the master curves of bituminous binders and mixtures. No models are currently considered universal for all modeling purposes. In this research, the general structure and capabilities of some of the most commonly used analytical models were investigated. Then, based on the patterns of phase angle master curves of ten neat and modified asphalt binders, four groups of master curve shapes were defined. The goodness of fit of the models for the different groups of master curves was used to develop...

    Abstract
The current study was aimed at developing a package of “model + algorithm” for the design of resin in pulp (RIP) and carbon in pulp (CIP) processes of gold, uranium, and base metals. For this purpose, we first formulated a double-resistance model for irreversible adsorption (accompanied by chemical reaction) in CSTRs, and modified the McKay et al. semi-analytical model for reversible uptake in a similar system. We then devised two algorithms for the design and optimization of reversible and irreversible RIP and CIP cascades. The developed algorithms were applied on the extraction of copper, uranium, and gold. The packages are able to specify the optimum number of stages, reactor volume (V),...

    Abstract
Crystallization of Aluminum Hydroxide is the most important section of the Alumina production processes as the product yield and crystal size distribution (CSD) of this stage strongly affects the whole Alumina production process. In this work to simulate the crystallization in industrial steady precipitation tanks two Population Balance based models developed. First one is the Coupled CFD-Population Balance Model which considers the effects of flow hydrodynamics on crystallization kinetics and CSD. For development of this model the computational fluid dynamics software ANSYS FLUENT has been used. The two phase flow field has been simulated using Eulerian granular multiphase model coupled...

Development of a Computer Code for Thermo Hydraulics Analysis of Prismatic High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactors

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Naderi, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Ghofrani, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor) ; Jafari, Jalil (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A prismatic high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR), which is a graphite moderated, helium-cooled reactor, is a promising candidate for next generation nuclear power plant in that it enables applications, such as hydrogen production or process heat for petrochemical by supplying heat with core outlet temperatures as high as 1000°C. A Thermal Hydraulic Analysis Code (THAC) for gas-cooled reactors has been developed. THAC implicitly solves heat transfer equation of fuel, graphite block and helium. Three types of fuel pins were considered; solid fuel pin, fuel pins with inside holes and annular fuels with coolant flow from its inside and outside surfaces. THAC predicts axial and radial...

    Abstract
In this paper, we study a supply chain problem where a whole seller/producer distributes goods among different retailers. Such problems are always faces with uncertainty with input data and we have to use various techniques to handle the uncertainty. The proposed model of this paper considers different input parameters such as demand, capacity and cost in trapezoid fuzzy forms and using two ranking methods, we handle the uncertainty. The results of the proposed model of this paper have been compared with the crisp and other existing fuzzy techniques using some randomly generated data. The preliminary results indicate that the proposed models of this paper provides better values for the...
