    Abstract
A heat transfer rate was determined for polypropylene tubes in solar water heaters for the Reynolds number range 800-5600. Experiments were conducted in ambient temperatures of 34 to 37°C. Data were correlated in the form of Nusselt numbers as: Nu=0.0015 Re0.75 Pr1/3 with correlation coefficient of 0.95. Such data can be used to predict heat transfer rates in a polypropylene solar heater in Tehran where the experiments were performed. An application of the results is shown in an example. © 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

    , Article Pattern Recognition ; Volume 46, Issue 12 , December , 2013 , Pages 3371-3382 ; 00313203 (ISSN) Daneshgar, A ; Javadi, R ; Shariat Razavi, S. B ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
We propose a graph-based data clustering algorithm which is based on exact clustering of a minimum spanning tree in terms of a minimum isoperimetry criteria. We show that our basic clustering algorithm runs in O(nlogn) and with post-processing in almost O(nlogn) (average case) and O(n2) (worst case) time where n is the size of the data-set. It is also shown that our generalized graph model, which also allows the use of potentials at vertices, can be used to extract an extra piece of information related to anomalous data patterns and outliers. In this regard, we propose an algorithm that extracts outliers in parallel to data clustering. We also provide a comparative performance analysis of...

We define a new feature called Teager Energy to Energy and mathematically show that it provides distinguished values for pure tone and white noise signals. We then employ the Teager Energy to Energy feature to propose an efficient procedure for voice activity detection and use simulation results to evaluate its performance in different noisy environments. Furthermore, we experimentally demonstrate the performance of the proposed voice activity detection technique in a real-time voice processing embedded system. Experimental and simulation results show that the introduced procedure provides more reliable results with a reasonable amount of computational complexity in comparison with its...

Probabilistic Evaluation of Seismic Soil Liquefaction in Sands Using Cone Penetration Test (CPT)Data

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Razavi Nasab, Mohammad (Author) ; Ahmadi, Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
More than half a century has passed since the start of research on seismic liquefaction phenomenon in cohesionless soils, and various researchers has proposed different correlations for liquefaction prediction based on in situ tests. However, there still exists a great uncertainty in liquefaction prediction correlations, and liquefaction still occurs in different parts of the world. Hence, the main objective of this research is to reduce uncertainty in seismic liquefaction initiation correlations. While the technical literature indicates that soil resistance can alter due to liquefaction and shaking events and soil resistance after the liquefaction is not necessarily indicative of it prior...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Razavi Rohani, Roozbeh (Author) ; Soleymani Baghshahi, Mahdih (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Reinforcement learning is one of the most well-known learning paradigms in biological agents and one of the most used ones for solving plenty of problems. One of the reasons for this widespread use is the low demand for supervising signals. However, the sparsity of the reward signal causes increasing in sample complexity that needs for learning new tasks. This issue makes trouble in multi-task settings, specifically. One of the most promising approaches to learning new tasks by limited interaction with the environment is meta reinforcement learning. An approach in which fast adaption becomes possible by limiting hypothesis space and creating inductive biases by learning meta parameters....

Design of a Low Power and Robust SRAM Cell Based on FinFET

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sayyah Ensan, Sina (Author) ; Hesabi, Shahin (Supervisor) ; Moaiyeri, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
By scaling the technology node, leakage power and process variations emerge as the two important factors to design a chip. Static power becomes more important when the number of portable devices which spend most of the time in the idle mode is increasing.Process variations lessen performance, reliability and lead to more leakage power. To mitigate these limitations multiple devices have been proposed to displace Bulk MOSFET.Among these devices we can name FinFET and CNTFET transistors. FinFET transistors due to their superior gate control in compare to Bulk MOSFETs transistor have shown lesser short channel effects, more scalability, more I_on to I_off ratio and lesser process variations....

    Abstract
The present study investigated the effect of laser input energy on the quality and mechanical behavior of a 304 stainless steel–polyamide 6 joint in the laser-assisted metal and polymer direct joining (LAMP) method experimentally and numerically. After the proposed heat transfer model was validated, it was determined whether there was an optimal amount of laser input energy that could produce a joint with favorable quality and mechanical behavior. Among different laser input energies used in this study, 28-J/mm energy can provide more uniform and extensive wetting of the metal surface by the polymer, while excessive polymer degradation in the joint zone was prevented. As a result, an optimal...

    Abstract
In this paper, a class of uncertain piecewise affine (PWA) systems, subject to system and measurement external disturbances are studied. The uncertainties are assumed to be norm bounded and the external disturbance signals belong to the L2 space. The problem of optimizing the system response in the H?sense, by means of a piecewise affine observer-controller, is formulated as an optimization problem subject to a number of constraints in the form of matrix inequalities. The derived constraints are obtained by considering a partially piecewise quadratic Lyapunov function in combination with the general conditions for H?stability. Then the uncertain PWA approximation of the nonlinear attitude...
