    Abstract
This study was conducted in order to investigate the effect of difference in electrical resistivity between low carbon steel and austenitic stainless steel on the physical and mechanical properties and fracture mode of dissimilar resistance spot welds of these alloys. For this purpose, plastic deformation using constrained groove pressing combined with rolling applied to low carbon steel in three levels of 40%, 156% and 272%. Microstructural characterization, micro-hardness measurements and shear-tension test were performed. It was shown that by increasing the pre-strain in low carbon steel its electrical resistivity increases from 13.08 μΩ.cm to 19.5 μΩ.cm and because of reduction of...

Investigation of Deformation Behavior and Stress Relaxation of Helical Springs

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Soltani, Hossein (Author) ; Karimi Taheri, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Springs parts are widely used in many industries including the automative industries where the disability of the springs can cause damage. Spring forming processes induce residual stresses on the surface of spring. Residual stress is affected by various processes, such as heat treatment or shot peening. When a coiled spring is heat treated, depending on the temperature and time of heat treatment residual stresses are partially relieved, but they generally do not disappear. An important characteristic of spring steel is its resistance against stress relaxation at different temperatures and times. Stress relaxation in valve springs working at high temperatures causes some problems for...

    Abstract
In positioning and navigation, Sonar with utilization of sound waves in water environments is similar to the role of Radar in not watered (irrigated) environments. In the Sonar field, modeling and simulation of propagation of sound waves in the undersea environment is a fundamental and very important topic. Nowadays simulation is significant tool that allow to the researchers to predict the quality of Sonar function respect to the experimental conditions. In the wave theory, because of the large volume of data, the interpretation of the results is hard. Also in this method cannot...

Prediction of Strain, Stress, and Microstructure in Sever Plastic Deformation of Equal Channel Angular Extrusion

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Narooei, Keivan (Author) ; Karimi Taheri, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Sever plastic deformation can be used for decreasing the grain size and increasing the mechanical properties. In this method a square or circular cross section specimen is passed from two intersecting channel with equal cross section. Thereby, a large plastic strain without change of cross section is produced in the specimen. This large strain is the main reason for the interest of researchers in many fields. In the experimental research fields, researchers can study the response of material in the large plastic strain range, investigation of stage III of hardening and after it, change of microstructure to submicron and Nano, and increase of strength simultaneously with preserving of...

On Mixing Time for Some Markov Chain Monte Carlo

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammad Taheri, Sara (Author) ; Alishahi, Kasra (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Markov chains are memoryless stochastic processes that undergoes transitions from one state to another state on a state space having the property that, given the present, the future is conditionally independent of the past. Under general conditions, the markov chain has a stationary distribution and the probability distribution of the markov chain, independent of the staring state, converges to it’s stationary distribution.
We use this fact to construct markov chain monte carlo, which are a class of algorithms for sampling from probability distributions based on constructing a markov chain that has the desired distribution as its stationary distribution. The state of a chain after a large...

    Abstract
The main aim of this paper was to study the effect of a new tripodal chelating agent on La1-x Sr x Co1-y Fe y O3-δ perovskite prepared by the complexation method. For this purpose, a phenolic derivative of glycine (L) was synthesized applying the Mannich reaction and characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopies as well as by elemental analysis. To evaluate the complexation capability of L, its formation constants with the perovskite cations were measured. Comparison of these results with those reported for the complexaion with glycine, introduced L as a good candidate for the complexation with Fe(III) and La(III) cations. Furthermore, the powder XRD observations confirmed an improvement in the...

Designing and Developing an Active Micromixer Based on Optical Tweezers for Microfluidics

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Taheri, Saeed (Author) ; Seyed Reihani, Nader (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Microfluidics is a field of science that studies micron-scale characteristics of fluids. In this scale fluids show fascinating behavior far beyond our expectation compared to their large-scale counterparts. One of such peculiar behavior is the mixing of two different liquids flowing inside a microchannel. Due to low Reynolds number, the flow inside such a channel would be dominated by laminar behavior. In this regime mixing of the fluids is only mediated by molecular diffusion which is a rather slow process. In the current thesis, we utilized the rotating ability of optical tweezers to construct an active micromixer for Microfluidics. In order to do this we used birefringent microbeads. The...

Simulation of the Local Strain Effect on Deformation of a Steel Part

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ebrahimi, Hossein (Author) ; Karimi Taheri, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the methods of forming the metal parts is to apply a localized strain field to the workpiece. This field can be generated by creating a deformation in an actuator connected to the workpiece, or directly by a localized imposing heat (thermal localized strain) to the workpiece. For example in laser forming process, the workpieces in the forms of sheet and tube can be deformed by creating localized strain field induced from thermal field caused by laser irradiation. The main mechanisms in laser forming are temperature gradient mechanism, upsetting mechanism and buckling mechanism. It is worth mentioning that until now, the localized strain field induced by laser irrediation is...

Comparison of efficiency for different switching tables in six-phase induction motor DTC drive

    , Article Journal of Power Electronics ; Volume 12, Issue 1 , 2012 , Pages 128-135 ; 15982092 (ISSN) Taheri, A ; Rahmati, A ; Kaboli, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    2012
    Abstract
In this paper, different switching tables proposed for the Direct Torque Controlled (DTC) of a six-phase induction machine are simulated and implemented. A six-phase induction motor has 64 space voltage vectors which result in increased complexity in the selecting of inverters switching. The unsuitable selection of a switching table leads to large harmonics especially at low speed and it also reduces drive efficiency. A six-phase induction machine has large zero sequence harmonic currents of the order 6k ±1. These harmonic currents are varied in various techniques. Decreasing this loss is essential in a six-phase induction machine. The main purpose of this paper is to improve the ST-DTC of...

    Abstract
This paper deals with the efficiency optimization of Field Oriented Control (FOC) of a six-phase induction motor supplied by Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) using the flux Search Controller (SC) technique. The proposed technique is based on controlling flux to achieve maximum efficiency at light load or low speed. Flux search controller technique is not only cost effective and easy to implement but also robust against parameter variations. Flux control algorithm in six-phase induction machine speed controller reduces 6n±1 harmonic loss as well as other losses like that of copper and core. Simulation results are carried out and they verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach
