Fault Tolerant Distributed Computing in Deep Neural Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zare Ahangarkolaei, Mohammad (Author) ; Aref , Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Maddah Ali, Mohammad Ali (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays, with the development of machine learning and deep learning on one hand, and the dramatic increase in the amount of information available and the complexity of models on the other hand, it is practically impossible to implement learning algorithms on a single node. Thus it is inevitable to distribute learning algorithms on several machines. In a distributed system, the main operations are divided into smaller tasks and performed by different nodes. The final result is then calculated by exchanging messages among the existing nodes. In this thesis, a method is introduced to compute the gradient of a massive data set in a distributed system. In this problem, there are a number of...

Zero-divisor Graphs of Partially Ordered Sets

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kamali Andani, Ali Akbar (Author) ; Pournaki, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Let (P;≼) be a partially ordered set (poset, briefly) with a least element 0. In this thesis, we deal with zero-divisor graphs of posets. We show that if the chromatic number r(P) and the clique number r(P) (x(r(P)) and !(r(P)), respectively) are finite, then x(r(P)) = !(w(P)) = n in which n is the number of minimal prime ideals of P. We also prove that the diameter of such a graph is either 1, 2 or 3 while its girth is either 3, 4 or 1

Synthesis of PZT Nanotubes by Sol-gel Method Aided by Carbon Nanotubes

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tabei, Ali (Author) ; Nemati, Ali (Supervisor) ; Mohammadi, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this project, synthesis of sol-gel derived Pb(Zr0.52Ti0.48)O3 nanotubes in the form of PZT-CNT hybrid, was accomplished by using multi-walled carbon nanotubes as sacrificial template. Simultaneous thermal analyses proved that the as-derived amorphous material crystallized at a significantly low temperature by a considerably low activation energy. X-ray diffraction and selected area electron diffraction patterns showed that the final crystal structure is tetragonal perovskite. Raman spectroscopy results proved that significant changes happened at the surface of carbon nanotubes which are believed to be due to coating. Electron images supported the deposition of a coating on the surfaces of...

Analysis and Evaluation of Routing in Large-Scale Delay Tolerant Networks

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Rashidi, Leila (Author) ; Movaghar, Ali (Supervisor) ; Entezari Maleki, Reza (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Delay-tolerant networks refer to the networks that lack stable end-to-end paths due to the high mobility of nodes. In order to tackle the intermittent connections, nodes of delay-tolerant networks store the data packets and carry them. Nodes forward data packets according to routing protocols once they enter each other's communication range. In order to increase the probability of delivery, several or many copies of a packet can be disseminated in the network. Over the past years, various routing protocols have been proposed for delay-tolerant networks. These protocols differ from each other in the number of copies that are disseminated in the network or the information used to make routing...

Coarse Grained-Atomistic Concurrent Multi-Scale Modeling for Numerical Simulation of Mechanical Behavior of Heterogeneous Materials in Nano-cale

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ali Madadi Ahmadabadi, Ashkan (Author) ; Khoei, Amir Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this thesis, a method has been exploited to couple the atomistic domain with the coarse-grained domain. Since molecular dynamics has a high computational cost when a large number of atoms exist, coarse-grained molecular dynamics was used in which a number of atoms are assumed as a bigger bid and interatomic potential is modified for bids so that the material’s mechanical properties remain constant. This method not only reduces the computational cost of calculating forces in molecular dynamics simulation but also, the time step used in Coarse-Grained Methods can be more than atomistic simulations as the frequency of occurring phenomena in CG scale is less than atomistic scale. The advantage...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammad Ali Rezaei, Payam (Author) ; Zolghadri, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
A grid simulator is a system for testing various types of grid-connected devices, such as inverters of renewable energy sources, chargers, power supplies, etc. In this project, the design and implementation of a 3 KVA three-phase regenerative programmable AC current source is presented. In the future, this structure can be used as a grid simulator. The topology used for the current source is a two-level three-phase AC to DC converter. The current source can operate in constant current (CC), constant power (CP), constant impedance (CI), and constant voltage (CV) modes. In the constant current operating mode, the user sets the amplitude and phase of the 1st, 5th, 7th, 11th, and 13th harmonics...

Secure and Fault-Tolerant Computing in Distributed Systems

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hoseini Najarkolaei, Reza (Author) ; Aref, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Maddah Ali, Mohammad Ali (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this work, we consider the problem of secure multi-party computation (MPC). This system includes Γ sources, N processing nodes or workers and one data collector or master. Each node has a constraint on its storage, such that it can store 1/m fraction of size of each input matrices from each node. In addition, up to t of these workers are adversary and may collude to gain information about the private inputs or can do malicious actions to make the final result incorrect. The objective is to calculate an arbitrary polynomial of some massive private matrices as inputs while the privacy is preserved. The main concern in these kind of systems is to reduce the minimum number of workers needed...

    , Article IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery ; Volume 32, Issue 1 , 2017 , Pages 441-452 ; 08858977 (ISSN) Zarei, S. F ; Parniani, M ; Sharif University of Technology
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc  2017
    Abstract
Microgrid (MG) protection is one of the main challenges in proliferation of microgrids. Due to limited fault current feeding of inverter-based distributed generations (DGs), in islanded operation of MG, protection problems become more complicated; and, therefore, conventional protection strategies cannot be applied. Hence, new protection methods that are applicable in islanded and grid-connected modes of operation are necessary. In this paper, a comprehensive digital-relay based protection is introduced for the protection of MGs. The proposed method includes protection of lines, distributed generations, and the point of common coupling. The structure and graphical schematic of the proposed...

A Survey on Conversion Coefficient of Relative Lateral Displacement of Linear Analysis to Real Relative Lateral Displacement of Structure

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Akhavan Sigari Yazd, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Khaloo, Ali Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In recent years, displacement is more considered in comparison with force in design of structures. For example in 2800 standard -3rd edition- it is stated that for the reason that real displacement of structure in linear analysis is not calculable; it is necessary to resonate the lateral displacement of elastic analysis with a coefficient which is related to behavior coefficient of structure. This displacement should be less than allowable limit that is noted in the code. In similar foreign codes importance factor is also noted beside behavior factor in calculation of real lateral displacement of structure. Evaluation of this coefficient for different structures, comparison with suggested...

Dynamic Analysis of an Exoskeletal System to Assist a Paraplegic Motion

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Selk Ghafari, Ali (Author) ; Meghdari, Ali (Supervisor) ; Vossoughi, Gholam Reza (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
This research focuses on the dynamic analysis of an exoskeletal system to assist a paraplegic motion. Research in powered human exoskeletons began in the late 1960s, almost in parallel between the numbers of research groups for different applications. The main challenges for the recent work in exoskeletons were focused on the design and demonstration of an initial prototype. To this point, the reported advantages of the autonomous exoskeleton systems are largely anecdotal. Indeed, there is a marked lack of published quantitative performance results for exoskeleton devices that reportedly improve human locomotion. Considering this, there are many design challenges remained that may lead to...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khajenezhad, Ahmad (Author) ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Supervisor) ; Safari, Mohammad Ali (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Classification of hyperspectral remote sensing images is a challenging problem, because of the small number of labeled pixels, high dimensionality of the data and large number of pixels. In this context, semisupervised learning can improve the classification accuracy by extracting information form the distribution of all the labeled and unlabeled data. Among semi-supervised methods, manifold-based algorithms have been frequently used in recent years. In most of the previous works, manifolds are constructed according to spectral representation of data, while spatial dependency of pixel labels is an important property of the images in remote sensing applications. In this thesis, after...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Bayat, Amir (Author) ; Moshfegh, Ali Reza (Supervisor) ; Azimirad, Rouhollah (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces find many applications in different fields of science. The aerospace industry is one such field that can take the advantage of superhydrophobicity for anti-icing coatings. In order to make hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces on hydrophilic materials, two-step process is usually need, at first, making a rough surface and then modifying it with hydrophobic coatings with low surface free energy. In this research, we have used glancing angle deposition (GLAD) RF sputtering technique to fabricate Teflon coated tungsten on glass substrate for obtaining hydrophobic surface. GLAD approach is a method to grow structures such as nanorods and zigzag...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Ali Khourshaei Shargh (Author) ; NaghdAbadi, Reza (Supervisor) ; Sohrabpour, Saeed (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Due to the limitations on experiments in the field of cell mechanics, computational modeling of biological cells have attracted attention within two recent decades. In general, some models have been developed in two different scales, known as microstructure and continuum, both of which have their own pros and cons. Nevertheless, viscoelastic behavior of cell membrane has attracted less attention of scientists up to now. Therefore, multi-scale simulation of the viscoelastic behavior of the cell membrane has been chosen as the main goal of this thesis. Toward this goal, at first the energy of the simulation box, consisting of 128 Dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine and 3655 water molecules, was...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mahboubimatin, Mahdi (Author) ; Pournaki, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor) ; Rajaei, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
LetK be a biquadratic field. M.-N. Gras and F. Tanoe gave a necessary and sufficient condition that K is monogenic by using a diophantine equation of degree 4 [13]. We consider algebraic extension fields of higher degree. Let F be a Galois extension field over the rationals Q whose Galois group is 2-elementary Abelian. then we shall prove that F of degree graeter than 8, is monogenic if and only if F being field of n'th primitive root of unity under a suitable condition for the case of degree 8
