    Abstract
Background: Drowning is a leading cause of injury-related mortality globally. Unintentional drowning (International Classification of Diseases (ICD) 10 codes W65-74 and ICD9 E910) is one of the 30 mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive causes of injury-related mortality in the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study. This study's objective is to describe unintentional drowning using GBD estimates from 1990 to 2017. Methods: Unintentional drowning from GBD 2017 was estimated for cause-specific mortality and years of life lost (YLLs), age, sex, country, region, Socio-demographic Index (SDI) quintile, and trends from 1990 to 2017. GBD 2017 used standard GBD methods for estimating mortality...

    Abstract
Hydro collapsible soils are of kinds of problematic soils which show high shear strength at low degrees of saturation but due to wetting, their Meta stable structure collapses and will be subjected to large deformation. In this study by applying isotropic triaxial loadings to undisturbed samples, mechanical behavior of a highly collapsible loessial soil has been assessed. During tests, matric suction of the samples was controlled as well as the mean net stress, and the variation of the degree of saturation was monitored continuously. Two types of stress paths were conducted on the samples namely "Isotropic induced collapse" under applying constant matric suctions and "wetting induced...

    Abstract
It is well understood that patients with different diseases may have a variety of specific proteins (e.g., type, amount, and configuration) in their plasmas. When nanoparticles (NPs) are exposed to these plasmas, the resulting coronas may incorporate some of the disease-specific proteins. Using gold (Au) NPs with different surface properties and corona composition, we have developed a technology for the discrimination and detection of two neurodegenerative diseases, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and multiple sclerosis (MS). Applying a variety of techniques, including UV-visible spectra, colorimetric response analyses and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, we found the corona-NP...

    Abstract
Our purpose was to determine whether perfusion MR imaging can be used for malignancy determination of tumors. Relative cerebral blood flow (rCBF) is a commonly used perfusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique for the evaluation of malignancy. The goal of our study was to determine the usefulness of this parameter in malignancy determination of tumors using Independent Component Analysis (ICA)

    Abstract
The placement of the Last Level Cache (LLC) banks in the GPU on-chip network can significantly affect the performance of memory-intensive workloads. In this paper, we attempt to offer a placement methodology for the LLC banks to maximize the performance of the on-chip network connecting the LLC banks to the streaming multiprocessors in GPUs. We argue that an efficient placement needs to be derived based on a novel metric that considers the latency hiding capability of the GPUs through thread level parallelism. To this end, we propose a throughput aware metric, called Effective Latency Impact (ELI). Moreover, we define an optimization problem to formulate our placement approach based on the...

    Abstract
Human infertility is a multifactorial disease that affects 8%–12% of reproductive-aged couples worldwide. However, the genetic causes of human infertility are still poorly understood. Synaptonemal complex (SC) is a conserved tripartite structure that holds homologous chromosomes together and plays an indispensable role in the meiotic progression. Here, we identified three homozygous mutations in the SC coding gene C14orf39/SIX6OS1 in infertile individuals from different ethnic populations by whole-exome sequencing (WES). These mutations include a frameshift mutation (c.204_205del [p.His68Glnfs∗2]) from a consanguineous Pakistani family with two males suffering from non-obstructive...

    Abstract
The Low-Frequency Array (LOFAR) is under construction in the Netherlands and in several surrounding European countries. In this contribution, we describe the layout and design of the telescope, with particular emphasis on the imaging characteristics of the array when used in its 'standard imaging' mode. After briefly reviewing the calibration and imaging software used for LOFAR image processing, we show some recent results from the ongoing imaging commissioning efforts. We conclude by summarizing future prospects for the use of LOFAR in observing the little-explored low-frequency Universe
