Investigating the Feasibility of using Magnetic Field in Seismic Response Control of Structures

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Valizadeh, Hossein (Author) ; Rahimzadeh Rofooei, Fayaz (Supervisor) ; Kazemi, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor) ; Ghorbani Vaghei, Bahman (Co-Advisor)
    Abstract
Base isolation is a method for controlling the vibration of structure by modifying the transmission between the source of excitation and the vibration structure. In this thesis, the feasibility of using magnetic field in seismic response control of structures has been investigated. It is tried with the inspiration of magnetic trains. While the old trains ran on the rail lost a large amount of energy because of the friction between the wheels and the rails that decreased the train speed, in the maglev trains with separating them from the rail the friction is reduced to the least amount so that today these trains are able to run with the speed about 550 km/h. It has been tried in two concepts...

Dynamic & Vibration Analysis of AFM Probe Affected by the Non Uniform Potential Field

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kahrobaiyan, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Atomic force microscope (AFM) has a significant capability of imaging surface topography on an atomic scale. It is also widely used for Nanolithography in MEMS/NEMS (micro/nanoelectromechanical systems). Conventional AFMs consist of a cantilever with a sharp conical or pyramidal tip located at the free end of the cantilever that plays an important role in AFM measurements. Scanning across a surface, AFM interacts with the sample surface through its tip. Although the dynamic behavior of the AFM cantilever is complicated, the researchers have been interested in studying AFM dynamic behavior because it has a great influence on the surface imaging process. The imaging rate and contrast of...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Azkia, Ali (Author) ; Manzuri, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today, with the spread of various videos especially sports video and availability of them, the need for automated methods for search and retrieval of concepts from videos is strongly felt. On the other hand, summarizing video in order to making significant parts of them available is very important. One of the broadest scope that researchers have provided methods for extracting semantic concepts, is soccer videos. Often to extract high-level events, we need a definition and use of intermediate concepts. In this thesis "replay", "audio highlights" and "view type" are used to extract important events in the game. Here, two new methods are introduced for replay detection and view type...

Inferring Gene Regulatory Networks, Using Machine Learning Approaches

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Gheiby, Sanaz (Author) ; Manzuri, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Gene regulatory network consists of a set of genes; interacting with each other via their protein products. Such interations lead to the regulation of the genes’ production rate. A breakdown in the regulatory process, may lead to some kinds of diseases. Therefore, understanding the gene regulatory process, is beneficial for both diagnosis and treatment. In this thesis, gene regulatory networks are modeled by the means of dynamic Bayesian networks. We have used sampling based methods, in order to learn the network structure. As these methos have a very high computational cost; we have used a correlation test to prune the search space. This way, an undirected network skeleton is obtained; for...

Investigation of the Recovery Time and Hyper-Viscoelastic Properties of the Brain Tissue

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohajery, Mohammad (Author) ; Ahmadian, Mohammad Taghi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
FE simulations have been widely used to investigate the response of the brain tissue in various circumstances. The accuracy of the material models critically affects the results of the numerical simulation. However, despite the numerous studies aiming for the material modeling of the brain, there is still divergence between the results reported in the literature. A part of this discrepancy is due to the inherent difference between samples. Nonetheless, another part of it is resulted from the differences between testing protocols used by researchers. In some protocols multiple mechanical tests are performed on each sample. Enough recovery time should be considered between consecutive test...

In the present study, the buckling of generally laminated truncated conical shells having thickness variation expressed by a linear function, subjected to axial compression with simply or clamped supports has been considered. To begin with, the fundamental relations for a conical shell with variable thickness have been derived applying thin-walled shallow shell theory of Donnell-type and theorem of minimum potential energy; non-linear terms of Donnell equations by the help of adjacent-equilibrium criterion are linearized. Governing equations are solved using power series method and are applicable for all combinations of classical boundary conditions. The results are validated with Galerkin...

On the Density Matrix of Graphs

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Kazemi, Mohammad Reza (Author) ; Daneshgar, Amir (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Density matrix of graphs as defined -for the first time- in [S. Braunstein and et al. The laplacian of a graph as a density matrix, Annals of Combinatorics, (2006)], is obtained through dividing the Laplacian matrix by the degree sum. This matrix is also semi-positive and trace one. Therefore one may talk about the Von Neumann entropy of this matrix. In [F. Passerini, S. Severini. Quantifying complexity in networks: The Von Neumann entropy. IJATS, (2009)], authors have claimed that this quantity can be consisered as a measure of regularity. Here, using a geometric interpretation of Von Neumann entropy, expresed in [G. Mitchison, R. Jozsa, Towards a geometrical interpretation of quantum...
