    Abstract
this research chamber effective length, which is the minimum chamber length required for complete combustion, for a dilute monopropellant spray, constant area, one dimensional and fixed volume engine is analytically predicted. A new evaporation rate in the form of dk +1 relation, instead of d 2 law, is introduced. In case of controlling the vaporization by radiative heat transfer, k is equal to zero, and when molecular processes control the vaporization, k will be equal to unity and in some cases the vaporization data need the value of k greater than one to fit properly to related equation. Development of this approach can be used in design of combustion chambers with optimum length and with...

    Abstract
A new experimental facility was designed, fabricated and tested to model and study the possibility of applying the bidirectional swirl flow on the combustion chamber of airbreathing subsonic ramjet engine. Appropriate intake was designed to convert axial external air to tangential swirl flow inside the combustion chamber. Inlets with appropriate angles conduct the swirl flow into the chamber and create bidirectional swirl flow field in the combustion chamber. This flow field has been modeled theoretically to determine the velocity field characteristics by previous researchers. Bidirectional swirl flow in liquid fuel ramjet engines has the proven advantage of keeping the combustion chamber...

    Abstract
An experimental investigation has been performed to realize thorough behavior of a vortex tube system. In this work attention has been focussed on the classification of the parameters affecting vortex tube operation. The effective parameters are divided into two different types, namely geometrical and thermo-physical ones. A reliable test rig has been designed and constructed to investigate the effect of geometrical parameters i.e. diameter and length of main tube, diameter of outlet orifice, shape of entrance nozzle. Thermo-physical parameters which have been designated and studied are inlet gas pressure, type of gas, cold gas mass ratio and moisture of inlet gas. The effects of these...

Numerical modeling of pulsating inflow to the pulmonary arteries in TCPC morphology using FSI approach

    , Article ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, Proceedings (IMECE) ; Volume 3 A , 2013 ; 9780791856215 (ISBN) Rajabzadeh, H. R ; Firoozabadi, B ; Saidi, M. S ; Sohrabi, S ; Mehr, S. M. N ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The Fontan surgery is performed on patients with a single ventricle heart defect to prevent the combination of highlyoxygenated and poorly-oxygenated blood. Blood flow in total cavopulmonary connection (TCPC) which culminates an ordinary Fontan operation is practically steady-state but this flow is not appropriate for respiratory systems. This article investigates an approach in Fontan surgery that has been recently proposed in order to make the pulmonary blood flow pulsating. Moreover, for investigating the compliance of vessels and its effects on blood flow in TCPC, we have used the FSI (Fluid Structure Interaction) method as well as rigid wall assumption for comparison purposes. Our TCPC...

    Abstract
In this paper the analytical and simulation modelling of the combined heat and mass transfer processes that occur in a solid desiccant wheel is carried out. Using the numerical method, the performance of an adiabatic rotary dehumidifier is parametrically studied, and the optimal rotational speed is determined by examining the outlet adsorption-side humidity profiles. An approach to compare the solutions for different conditions used in air dehumidifier has been investigated according to the previous published studies. Comparing the simulated results with the published actual values of an experimental work substantiates the validity of model. The model accuracy with respect to the key...

Efficient Friedel-crafts alkylation of indoles and pyrrole with enones and nitroalkene in water

    , Article Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry ; 2006, Volume 4, Issue 23, Pages 4275-4277 Azizi, N. (Najmodin) ; Arynasab, F ; Saidi, M. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
An operationally simple and entirely green protocol for heteropoly acid catalyst conjugate addition of indoles and pyrrole to unsaturated carbonyl compounds and nitro-alkene in water was investigated. It is important that the products arising from 1,2-addition were not observed under the reaction conditions. Pyrroles also readily underwent Michael addition at Α-positions under the same reaction conditions. Indole and many of its derivatives are present in many substances commonly found in nature. Micheal addition reactions are performed in organic solvents with the reactions in water are relatively scarce. The Michael addition between indole and methyl vinyl ketone in the presence of...

    Abstract
A highly efficient and simple synthesis of dithiocarbamates is possible based on the one-pot reaction of amines, CS2, and alkyl halides without using a catalyst under solvent-free conditions. The mild reaction conditions, high yields, and broad scope of the reaction illustrate the good synthetic utility of this method. The reaction is a highly atom-economic process for production of S-alkyl thiocarbamates and successfully can be used in high quantities in the pharmaceutical or agrochemical industries

    , Article Journal of Heat Transfer ; Volume 133, Issue 9 , July , 2011 ; 00221481 (ISSN) Sadeghi, A ; Fattahi, M ; Hassan Saidi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
The present investigation considers the fully developed electro-osmotic flow of power-law fluids in a planar microchannel subject to constant wall heat fluxes. Using an approximate velocity distribution, closed form expressions are obtained for the transverse distribution of temperature and Nusselt number. The approximate solution is found to be quite accurate, especially for the values of higher than ten for the dimensionless Debye-Huckel parameter where the exact values of Nusselt number are predicted. The results demonstrate that a higher value of the dimensionless Debye-Huckel parameter is accompanied by a higher Nusselt number for wall cooling, whereas the opposite is true for wall...

    Abstract
Investigation of radiation heat transfer In vortex engine is an important and new phenomenon in combustion for scientists and combustion researchers. In this research some parts of the combustion chamber wall are insulated using Blanket as a high insulating material. The rate of radiative heat transfer to the chamber wall is calculated using temperature difference between inner and outer surface of chamber. In the experiments this parts are protected from direct contact with hot combustion media using quartz window. The luminous radiative transfer per volume of chamber and also volume of flame in a vortex engine are compared with that in a similar axial flow type engine. A detector sensitive...
