Properties of Radiation Induced LDPE/EVA Nanocomposits

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Behradfar, Afsoon (Author) ; Shojaei, Akbar (Supervisor) ; Sheikh, Nasrin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Polyethylene (PE) is used as an insulation material for wires and cables because of its excellent electrical properties. For such application, it can be exposed to the high energy irradiation such as gamma ray and electron beam (EB), making possible crosslinking of the PE. Most of the properties of PE are improved greatly after irradiation, but it was harden and split easily. Due to the flexibility of EVA, depending on the vinyl acetate content, it can improve the toughness of the LDPE significantly upon addition to this polymer. As a result, radiation induced LDPE/EVA blend has been a good candidate for the wire and cable insulation. Also, upon addition of a few amount of OC, different...

Preparation and Characterization of Phenolic Resin-nanodiamond Nanocomposites

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sheikhhasani, Sina (Author) ; Shojaei, Akbar (Supervisor) ; frounchi, Massoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Recently nanodiamond has drawn a vast attention of researchers due to exceptional mechanical properties. However, nanodiamond tendency to aggregation in polymer matrix restricts its reinforcement properties. In this research, novolac phenolic resin nanocomposites reinforced by nanodiamond were prepared by solution blending method and their mechanical properties were investigated. In order to prevent nanodiamond aggregation, ultrasonic treatment was used and nanodiamond surface was modified with acid and amine functional groups. FTIR and TGA were performed in order to investigate nanodiamond surface and confirmation of existence of acid carboxylic and oleylamine (OLA) groups. Produced...

A model-based approach for estimation of changes in lumbar segmental kinematics associated with alterations in trunk muscle forces

    , Article Journal of Biomechanics ; 2017 ; 00219290 (ISSN) Shojaei, I ; Arjmand, N ; Meakin, J. R ; Bazrgari, B ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2017
    Abstract
The kinematics information from imaging, if combined with optimization-based biomechanical models, may provide a unique platform for personalized assessment of trunk muscle forces (TMFs). Such a method, however, is feasible only if differences in lumbar spine kinematics due to differences in TMFs can be captured by the current imaging techniques. A finite element model of the spine within an optimization procedure was used to estimate segmental kinematics of lumbar spine associated with five different sets of TMFs. Each set of TMFs was associated with a hypothetical trunk neuromuscular strategy that optimized one aspect of lower back biomechanics. For each set of TMFs, the segmental...

A Semantic Valency Lexicon for Persian Predicates and Visualization of their Relations

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Salimifar, Saeedeh (Author) ; Khosravi Zadeh, Parvaneh (Supervisor) ; Shojaei, Razieh (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The highest and most difficult layer of Natural Language Processing, is the understanding of meaning. As a result, lexicons and annotated corpora are of the utmost importance in this area. However, the lack of such semantic resources, especially in Abstract Meaning Representation (AMR), is one of the main issues in this field for Persian Language. This work by modeling PropBank, a semantic valency lexicon for English predicates, is the first step towards building such lexicons for Persian Language with the focus on AMR. Thus, a guideline describing how to annotate the Persian predicates is provided which first evaluates the common structures between the two languages and then focuses on the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Samieifakhr, Mohammad (Author) ; Shojaei, Akbar (Supervisor) ; Molavi, Hossein (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Over the past decade, MOFs have been extensively studied due to their very high specific surface area and porous structure. Among a wide range of MOFs, UiO-66 has produced widespread attention for its excellent solvent resistance and high thermal stability. This nanoparticle is formed by 12 coordinates between Zr6O4(OH)4 unit and terephthalic acid ligand, and it seems that the similarity of its organic ligand with one of the PET-forming monomers makes them highly compatible. In this study, for the first time, the role of UiO-66 nanoparticles in improving the amount and rate of crystallization and mechanical and rheological properties of PET was investigated using the melt mixing method. For...

A Semi-Automated Software Test Case Generation for Test-driven Development

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shojaei Yeganeh, Mohsen (Author) ; Mirian Hosseinabadi, Hassan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Test driven software development is one of the most important practices in agile software production. In this practice, the programmer must write appropriate test cases before implementing the desired program. That is, at first, he should know what the function of his desired program is, and then considering them, the test cases are implemented. The problem with this method is that the programmer may not have much experience in this work, and good test cases may not be produced, and at the same time, this work is very time-consuming. As a result, this method may be abandoned. In this thesis, an attempt is made to provide a systematic method to make the production of test cases for the program...

    IEEE Computer Society  2002
    Abstract
A single-chip Integrated circuit of 3.3 V/1 W class-D high fidelity and high efficiency audio power amplifier is presented in this paper. The design has been done using a 3.3 V/0.25 /spl mu/m CMOS process. The maximum output power is 1 W before the amplifier saturates. The THD+N at 0.5 W output power is below 0.03% and efficiency is better than 90% thanks to the careful design of the output stage. The dynamic range is more than 100 dB suitable for high fidelity audio applications. A single-loop single-bit third order sigma-delta modulator is used to generate the PWM signal from input audio signal. The PWM signal is then filtered at the output with a second order low pass filter external to...

Simulation of the three-dimensional non-isothermal mold filling process in resin transfer molding

    , Article Composites Science and Technology ; Volume 63, Issue 13 , 2003 , Pages 1931-1948 ; 02663538 (ISSN) Shojaei, A ; Ghaffarian, S. R ; Karimian, S. M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier BV  2003
    Abstract
Numerical simulation of resin transfer molding (RTM) is known as a useful method to analyze the process before the mold is actually built. In thick parts, the resin flow is no longer two-dimensional and must be simulated in a fully three-dimensional space. This article presents numerical simulations of three-dimensional non-isothermal mold filling of the RTM process. The control volume/finite element method (CV/FEM) is used in this study. Numerical formulation for resin flow is based on the concept of nodal partial saturation at the flow front. This approach permits to include a transient term in the working equation, removing the need for calculation of time step to track the flow front in...

Three-dimensional process cycle simulation of composite parts manufactured by resin transfer molding

    , Article Composite Structures ; Volume 65, Issue 3-4 , 2004 , Pages 381-390 ; 02638223 (ISSN) Shojaei, A ; Ghaffarian, S. R ; Karimian, S. M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2004
    Abstract
A process cycle of resin transfer molding (RTM) consists of two sequential stages, i.e. filling and curing stages. These two stages are interrelated in non-isothermal processes so that the curing stage is dominated by the resin flow as well as temperature and conversion distributions during the filling stage. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account both filling and curing stages to analyze the process cycle accurately. In this paper, a full three-dimensional process cycle simulation of RTM is performed. Full three-dimensional analysis is necessary for thick parts or parts having complex shape. A computer code is developed based on the control volume/finite element method (CV/FEM)....

Flow Control in Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Rahmanian, Vahid (Author) ; Shojaei, Akbar (Supervisor) ; Pishvaie, Mahmoud Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) is one of the most efficient and low cost process in composite industries. In this process, the preform is covered by a flexible vacuum bag and resin flows into the mold with applying vacuum pressure at the vent. The main objective in VARTM process is preventing voids and dry spots formation in final composite part because these defects may significantly deteriorate the mechanical properties of a structure. Flow front is an important parameter in this process which have a high influence on the void formation. Resin flow control is required to prevent dry spots or micro voids during the VARTM process. In general, the flow control is classified...

Preparation and Characterization of Self-healing Coatings Using Inhibitor Loaded Polymeric Nanocontainers

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Pirhady Tavandashti, Nahid (Author) ; Ghorbani, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Shojaei, Akbar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The aim of this work was to synthesize hollow polyaniline nanostructures to be used as pH responsive nanoreservoirs for corrosion inhibitors in self-healing cotings. First, homogeneous and fairly monosized microspherers of polyaniline with nanosized shell was synthesized using a simple soft template method with β-naphthalene sulfonic acid (β-NSA) as both the surfactant and dopant, and ammonium persulfate (APS) as the oxidant at 2-5◦C. The morphology of PANI-NSA was successfully controlled from nanotubes to microsphere, by changing the synthesis conditions (i.e. pH, the concentration of surfactant and monomer, temperature, etc). Then, the nanostructured hollow PANI microspheres were applied...

    , Article 7th International Conference on Information Technology and Application, ICITA 2011 ; 2011 , Pages 179-183 ; 9780980326741 (ISBN) Shojaei Hashemi, A ; Soltanian Zadeh, H ; Ghaemmagham, S ; Kamarei, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
A passive image steganalysis method is proposed to universally detect spatial-domain steganography schemes. It is shown to have better performance than universal steganalyzers known to be powerful in spatial domain, including the WFLogSv and the WAM methods. This level of accuracy is the result of improving the WFLogSv steganalyzer by considering a more comprehensive relationship between the singular values of each image block and the linear correlation of the rows and the columns. That is, instead of the closeness of the lower singular values to zero, the energy distribution of the singular values is investigated. An innovative measure is proposed for this investigation, which is inspired...
