Graph Signal Processing-Based Resource Allocation in Fiber-Optic Networks

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Zarei Ardestani, Mohammad Hossein (Author) ; Hadi, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Pakravan, Mohammad Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
With the advancement of technology, the volume of network traffic has also increased dramatically. The optical network, as the main part of the backbone communication system, plays a significant role in the transmission of network traffic. Due to the limited network resources, an efficient resource allocation in optical networks is required to increase network performance and reduce costs. To solve resource allocation optimization problems, an effective tool is needed to provide a suitable solution in a reasonable time. Resource allocation problems are usually developed on a graph, which is derived from network topology or other properties of the network. As a result, graph-based tools seem to...

    Abstract
This research explored the influences of shielding gases on the appearance of weld beads and the microstructures and mechanical properties of thin-wall samples using conventional gas metal arc welding as the heat source by using 5356 aluminium alloy welding wire as the raw materials and nitrogen (N2) and argon (Ar) as the shielding gases. The results showed that under the same parameters and after mono-layer single-bead welding was performed using N2 as the shielding gas, the bead height was higher, the bead width was narrower, and the penetration depth was shallower. The grain size of the thin-wall sample protected by N2 was 43.5–47.8 % smaller than that obtained under Ar protection....

Analyzing Dermatological Data for Disease Detection Using Interpretable Deep Learning

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hashemi Golpaygani, Fatemeh Sadat (Author) ; Rabiee, Hamid Reza (Supervisor) ; Sharifi Zarchi, Ali (Supervisor) ; Ghandi, Narges (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
We present a deep neural network to classify dermatological disease from patient images. Using self-supervised learning method we have utilized large amount of unlabeled data. We have pre-trained our model on 27000 dermoscopic images gathered from razi hospital, the best dermatological hospital in Iran, along with 33000 images from ISIC 2020 dataset. We have evaluated our model performance in semi-supervised and transfer learning approaches. Our experiments show that using this approach can improve model accuracy and PRC up to 20 percent on semi-supervised setting. The results also show that pretraining can improve classification PRC up to 20 percent on transfer learning task on HAM10000...

Identification of Driver Genes in Glioblastoma Based on Single-Cell Gene Expression Data Utilizing the Concept of Pseudotime and Phylogenetic Analysis

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mirza Abolhassani, Fatemeh (Author) ; Foroughmand Aarabi, Mohammad Hadi (Supervisor) ; Kavousi, Kaveh (Co-Supervisor) ; Zare Mirakabad, Fatemeh (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Genetic heterogeneity within a tumor, which occurs during cancer evolution, is one of the reasons for treatment failure and increased chances of drug resistance. Cancer cells initially derive from a mutated progenitor cell, resulting in shared mutated genes. Throughout the course of tumor formation and progression, the occurrence of new mutations is possible, leading to the generation of cancer cells with various mutated genes. An appropriate approach is to identify the sequence of mutations that have occurred in the tumor, which can be inferred from single-cell sequencing data. Singlecell data provides valuable information about branching events in the evolution of a cancerous tumor. In...

Visualization of pool boiling heat transfer of magnetic nanofluid

    , Article Heat Transfer - Asian Research ; Volume 48, Issue 7 , 2019 , Pages 2700-2713 ; 10992871 (ISSN) Zarei Saleh Abad, M ; Ebrahimi Dehshali, M ; Bijarchi, M. A ; Shafii, M. B ; Moosavi, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
To increase heat transfer, ferrofluids have been utilized to study the effective parameters of pool boiling. Changes and possible enhancement of pool boiling heat transfer of magnetic fluids is a function of magnetic field and concentration of nanoparticles. To the best knowledge of the authors, no systematic experiments have been conducted to visualize the phenomena during the boiling of ferrofluids with different concentrations. In this study an experimental investigation has been conducted, by designing and fabricating a novel hele-shaw vessel with glass sides, to explore via visualizations some details in the pool boiling of ferrofluids. Boiling patterns of ferrofluids at various...

Fabrication and characterization of an injectable reinforced composite scaffold for cartilage tissue engineering: An in vitro study

    Abstract
There are limitations in current medications of articular cartilage injuries. Although injectable bioactive hydrogels are promising options, they have decreased biomechanical performance. Researchers should consider many factors when providing solutions to overcome these challenges. In this study, we created an injectable composite hydrogel from chitosan and human acellular cartilage extracellular matrix (ECM) particles. In order to enhance its mechanical properties, we reinforced this hydrogel with microporous microspheres composed of the same materials as the structural building blocks of the scaffold. Articular cartilage from human donors was decellularized by a combination of physical,...

Improving mechanical properties and biocompatibility of 3D printed PLA by the addition of PEG and titanium particles, using a novel incorporation method

    , Article Bioprinting ; Volume 27 , 2022 ; 24058866 (ISSN) Asadollahi, M ; Gerashi, E ; Zohrevand, M ; Zarei, M ; Sayedain, S. S ; Alizadeh, R ; Labbaf, S ; Atari, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Polylactic acid (PLA) scaffolds produced by the fused deposition modeling (FDM) method have biocompatibility, close Young's modulus to that of bone, and the ability to make complex shapes. However, PLA has some drawbacks like brittleness, inappropriate mechanical strength and hydrophobicity, and a low degradation rate. In this study, polyethylene glycol (PEG) (5 and 10 wt%) by solving method and titanium (Ti) particles (5 wt%) by two different methods were mixed with PLA to address the mentioned problems. Extruded filaments were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and fourier transform infrared (FTIR). Surface morphology of the produced filaments...

    Abstract
Among the various techniques of electronic warfare in the sea, chaff has particular importance due to its easy application and its impact on the victim radar. Despite the great history of chaff, the significant research has not been published on its recognition. It is difficult to study the behavior of chaff because of the impossibility of chaff tests in an unechoic chamber. Therefore simulation would be a suitable alternative. In this paper, the simulations of symmetric feature of chaff and target are presented and it is used to propose a processing structure, based on various classifiers, for discrimination between chaff and target. Moreover the comparison between discrimination capability...

    Abstract
Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D CRT) are two treatment modalities in prostate cancer, which provide acceptable dose distribution in tumor region with sparing the surrounding normal tissues. IMRT is based on inverse planning optimization; in which, intensity of beams is modified by using multileaf collimators and also compensators with optimum shapes in step and shoot (SAS) and compensator-based method, respectively. In the recent study, some important parameters were compared in two IMRT and 3D CRT methods. Prescribed dose was 80 Gy for both IMRT procedures and 70 Gy for 3D CRT. Treatment plans of 15 prostate cancer...
