    Abstract
    An Erbium-doped silica CROW can be employed as a band pass and band stop amplifier in telecommunication systems. Also it can be proposed as wide band amplifier as well as narrow band amplifier. We investigate theoretically and simulate structure of Erbium-doped CROW (EDC) with different parameters to realize its performance and possible applications as an amplifier. In this paper we try to consider effect of different parameters on gain spectrum of systems. © 2009 SPIE

    Abstract
    The present paper relates to an improved method for making surfactant esters, especially sorbitan monostearate and tristearate. Sorbitan esters of fatty acid, stéarate are derived from a reaction between sorbitan and fatty acid. Method of sorbitan ester production needs addition of catalyst. Sorbitan stéarate production was studied using chemical catalyst. Two steps process leading sorbitan production under atmospheric and vacuum pressure with acid catalyst resulted dehydrated product at optimal residence time of 195 min at 180°C for atmospheric conditions and optimalresidence time of 150 min at the same temperature respectively.     Abstract
    Collapsible-dispersive soil is one of the most challenging types of problematic soils having the adverse effects of both collapsible and dispersive soils for construction. A natural occurrence of this type of soil was recently encountered along some part of the Chabahar-Zahedan railway line in Southeast of Iran.     Abstract
    A video activity analysis is presented based on 3D wavelet transform. Marginal and joint statistics as well as mutual information estimates are extracted. Marginal histograms are approximated by Generalized Gaussian Density (GGD) functions. The mutual information between coefficients -as a quantitative estimate of joint statistics- decreases when the activity in the video increases. The relationship between kurtosis graphs, extracted from joint distributions and video activity, is deduced. Results show that the type of activity in the video can be figured out from Kurtosis curves. The GGD and the Kullback-Leibler distance (KLD) are used to retrieve and locate 96% of videos properly

    Security in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) is an active research topic. Bulks of prior work focused on key management and secure routing without addressing an important pre-requisite: network access control, the problem of how securely extend the network. In this paper, we present INAC, an identity-based network access control scheme for MANETs. In INAC, each node in the network must have an identity-based membership token in order to take part in network activities.     The bacterial mechanosensitive channel MscL gates in response to membrane tension as a result of mechanical force transmitted directly to the channel from the lipid bilayer. MscL represents an excellent model system to study the basic biophysical principles of mechanosensory transduction. However, understanding of the essential structural components that transduce bilayer tension into channel gating remains incomplete.     The aim of this work is to develop a mammography Monte Carlo MCNP-FBSM based simulation platform called 'MamSim' that is able to model the detailed geometry and physics of commercial screen-film and digital mammography units. This simulation platform is designed to enable the virtual assessment and optimization of mammography protocols and parameters for obtaining the desired image quality while diminishing radiation dose to the patient in both contact and magnification modes.     Abstract
    This article build upon fairness in pricing -i.e. a perceived fairness judgment by a buyer of a seller's prices (Haws and Bearden, 2006) - and dynamic pricing - a strategy in which prices vary over time, consumers, and/or circumstances (Haws and Bearden, 2006) - an analysis of the importance of the factors influencing consumers' perception of fairness. Specifically, it uses fuzzy cognitive maps on the model proposed by Haws and Bearden (2006) to find the most important path leading to consumer satisfaction with the price.     We have recently developed an extended rank reducing process for rank reduction of a matrix leading to various matrix decompositions containing the Abaffy-Broyden-Spedicato (ABS) and Wedderburn processes. Notably, the extended process contains both the Wedderburn biconjugation process and the scaled extended ABS class of algorithms.     Field-effect transistors have been widely used to study electronic transport and doping in colloidal quantum dot solids to great effect. However, the full power of these devices to elucidate the electronic structure of materials has yet to be harnessed. Here, we deploy nanodielectric field-effect transistors to map the energy landscape within the band gap of a colloidal quantum dot solid.     In this paper application of Ionic Polymer Metal Composite (IPMC) as actuator in a deformable ring capable of locomotion is studied. Such a deformable ring moves as a result of gravitational force acting on its body when its shape changes.     In this paper, we propose a packet-switched network-on-chip (NoC) architecture which can provide a number of low-power, low-latency virtual point-to-point connections for communication flows. The work aims to improve the power and performance metrics of packet-switched NoC architectures and benefits from the power and resource utilization advantages of NoCs and superior communication performance of point-to-point dedicated links.     Abstract
    A finite element analysis of a double layered shell with a circular hole is carried out with the computer aided engineering software Abaqus (Dassault Systèmes, FR). The model proposed has been used to perform a stress analysis on three pipes with different sized hole. Moreover, thermal expansion has been implemented in the testing. For the purpose of the research, the elastic properties of the materials have been considered and the results compared with the ones previously published in literature.     For various types of materials, milling process is extensively used to generate complex shapes with high quality. During the process and to achieve high removal rate, precision and better surface finish, chatter suppression is of great importance. An extended model of the milling process is presented in which the cutting forces are described as a third-order nonlinear function of chip thickness.     Abstract
    A solution-processed, bottom-up nanowire network electrode is developed and employed in a bulk heterojunction colloidal quantum dot solar cell. The electrode features a ZnO template which is converted into locally connected, infi ltratable TiO2 nanowires. The new electrode allows the application of a thicker light absorbing fi lm without compromising the charge extraction, as reported by Edward H. Sargent, Ghassan Jabbour, and co-workers on page 1769.
