Numerical Modeling of Cone Penetration Tests in Saturated Clayey Soil under Undrained Conditions

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fakhimi Akmal, Mahdiyeh (Author) ; Ahmadi، Mohammad Mehdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
This study aims to numerical modeling of piezocone penetration test (CPTu) in saturated clayey soils under undrained conditions using FLAC-2D software. According to the available studies, measuring excess pore water pressure during the piezocone penetration test can play an important role in determining the characteristics and engineering parameters of clayey soils. In many geotechnical problems, the initial state of existing stresses in the ground and are an important parameter that must be known for designs and analysis. The relationship between vertical and horizontal effective stress under zero lateral deformation is usually expressed by the coefficient of lateral earth pressure at...

Distribution Problem in Heterogeneous Networks with the Assumption of Flexibility in the Delivery of Goods

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fakhimi, Ramin (Author) ; Shavandi, Hasan (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, we consider a network of distiribution channels and a central warehouse to deliver the products to distribution centers. We assume the price of products are fixed and the central warehouse is authorized to change the delivery amount for each DC in a reasonable interval. The main idea is authorizing the central warehouse to be flexible in delivery of ordered amounts of DCs in a reasonable interval in order to reduce the transportation cost and then maximizing the profit.
The problem is formulated as a linear integer programming model and the properties of optimal solution is analyzed. Based on the properties of the model a solution algorithm is developed to solve the...

The impact of technological and social capabilities on innovation performance: a technological catch-up perspective

    , Article Technology in Society ; Volume 68 , 2022 ; 0160791X (ISSN) Fakhimi, M ; Miremadi, I ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
The literature on technological capabilities has highlighted the effects of innovation on economic growth. However, further analysis is required to determine how innovation factors affect the technological catch-up process outputs. The main purpose of the present study is therefore to determine the impacts of innovation-building factors (i.e., technological and social capabilities) on the innovation outputs. The role of market and innovation financing in technological catch-up has also been investigated. Partial least squares structural equation modeling has been employed to identify which factors have the most significant effects on this process. We have extracted twelve hypotheses from the...

Investigating the Impact of Key Innovation Variables on the Level of Technological Catch up: A Comparison between High and Middle Income Countries

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Fakhimi Jamil, Mohammad Amin (Author) ; Miremadi, Iman (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Today, innovation plays an essential role in the economic growth of countries. By evaluating technological capabilities, different approaches have considered important effects of innovation on the economic ability and superiority of countries either directly or indirectly. In recent years, the Global Innovation Index (GII) has been employed as a common framework in this respect. It consists of five components, including “institutions,” “human capital and research,” “infrastructure,” “market sophistication,” and “business sophistication,” as the inputs, and two components, including the “knowledge and technology outputs” and “creative outputs” as the outputs of innovation. The present study...

A novel congestion management method through power system partitioning

    , Article Electric Power Systems Research ; Volume 213 , 2022 ; 03787796 (ISSN) Dehnavi, E ; Afsharnia, S ; Akmal, A. A. S ; Moeini Aghtaie, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Congestion management (CM) is inevitable in today's competitive power markets. A CM method should be fast, fair, effective, and motivational. Moreover, in critical congestions, the system simplification and congestion clearing time are also of considerable importance. All the mentioned features can be found in an intelligent zonal CM. In this paper, using sensitivity analysis and power tracing techniques, a new CM model is developed based on power system partitioning. By the proposed model, a congestion index (CI) is introduced by which a candidate zone(s) is specified including some elements (generators and loads) with the highest CIs which means that they have high participation in...

Sequential RTV/(TiO2/SiO2) nanocomposite deposition for suppressing the leakage current in silicone rubber insulators

    , Article Applied Physics A: Materials Science and Processing ; Volume 126, Issue 5 , 2020 Parand, P ; Mohammadi, M ; Shayegani Akmal, A. A ; Samadpour, M ; dehghani, M ; Parvazian, E ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The sequential deposition method is introduced for suppressing the leakage current in silicone rubber insulators. Room temperature vulcanizing silicone and TiO2/silica nanocomposites are sequentially deposited on silicone insulators surface. TEM results showed that TiO2 nanoparticles size is about 20–30 nm, and the structural study revealed their anatase crystalline structure. Silica nanoparticles are deposited on the surface of insulators by spray deposition. The contact angle was enhanced from 104° to 149° after nanoparticles deposition, which confirms the hydrophobicity improvement. Results show that leakage current for nanocomposite samples in a contaminated environment reduced to about...
