Analysis and Evaluation of Intrusion Detection Datasets and Providing a Solution to Make Them Real

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shabani Eshkalak, Majedeh (Author) ; Jahangir, Amir Hossein (Supervisor)
    Abstract
The rapid advancement of information technology and computer networks raised concerns of the users and network administrators regarding security. The development of computer networks and the increase in the number of specialists in this field led to the increase in the number of people who seek to abuse these networks, people known as attackers. The attackers look for security defects in a network to penetrate and abuse it proportionate to their needs. Considering the risks of these attacks, it is necessary to have an intrusion detection system (IDS). IDSs are capable of detecting attack traffic or suspected traffic, then, they alert the network administrators, and consequently, stop the...

A novel thermo-photovoltaic cell with quantum-well for high open circuit voltage

    , Article Superlattices and Microstructures ; Volume 83 , July , 2015 , Pages 61-70 ; 07496036 (ISSN) Kouhsari, E. S ; Faez, R ; Akbari Eshkalak, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Abstract We design a thermo-photovoltaic Tandem cell which produces high open circuit voltage (Voc) that causes to increase efficiency (η). The currently used materials (AlAsSb-InGaSb/InAsSb) have thermo-photovoltaic (TPV) property which can be a p-n junction of a solar cell, but they have low bandgap energy which is the reason for lower open circuit voltage. In this paper, in the bottom cell of the Tandem, there is 30 quantum wells which increase absorption coefficients and quantum efficiency (QE) that causes to increase current. By increasing the current of the bottom cell, the top cell thickness must be increased because the top cell and the bottom cell should have the same current. In...

    Abstract
In this paper, a novel structure for a dual-gated graphene nanoribbon field-effect transistor (GNRFET) is offered, which combines the advantages of high and low dielectric constants. In the proposed Two Different Insulators GNRFET (TDI-GNRFET), the gate dielectric at the drain side is a material with low dielectric constant to form smaller capacitances, while in the source side, there is a material with high dielectric constant to improve On-current and reduce the leakage current. Simulations are performed based on self-consistent solutions of the Poisson equation coupled with Non-Equilibrium Green's Function (NEGF) formalism in the ballistic regime. We assume a tight-binding Hamiltonian in...

    Abstract
We study diffusive heterogeneous predator-prey system with Holling type-II functional response in the presence of harvesting in prey equation i.e.{-δu=λu-a(x)u2-buv1+mu-ch(x)in Ω,-δv=μv-v2+duv1+muin Ω,∂νu=∂νv=0on ∂Ω, where Ω is a smooth bounded region in RN and a(x) is a nonnegative continuous function on Ω, with Ω0 a region such that Ω⊂Ω and a(x)>0 on Ω\u03a90. We show that in the case of weak prey growth rate, i.e. λ less than the first eigenvalue of -δ in Ω0, the system has a positive solution for the values of μ in a bounded interval and c>0 sufficiently small. We also investigate the multiplicity of positive solutions in this case. When the prey growth rate is strong, we will show that...

    Springer Netherlands  2018
    Abstract
From a thermal point of view, zeotropic mixtures are likely to be more efficient than azeotropic fluids in low-temperature power cycles for reduction in exergy destruction occurring during heat absorption/rejection processes due to their suitable boiling characteristics. In this study, comprehensive energetic and exergetic analyses are mathematically performed for an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system employing a potential binary zeotropic working fluid, namely R717/water. For this purpose, initially mass, energy, and exergy balance equations are derived. With regard to the similarity in molar mass of R717 (17.03 g mol−1) and water (18.01 g mol−1), there is no need to alter the size of the...

Design and Implementation of a Spectrum Sensor for Cognitive Radio

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Safavi, Mahya (Author) ; Shabani, Mahdi (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Frequency scarcity has emerged the necessity of opportunistic utilization of frequency bands, which can be realized through a cognitive radio system. During an agile communication between unlicensed users, a cognitive radio system must avoid collision with licensed users. Hence it should continuously observe the band of interest and report the presence of licensed user signals. This task is fulfilled by a vital part of a cognitive radio system, called the spectrum sensing core. Recently several techniques have been proposed for the spectrum sensing in literature. Some of them like matched filtering, cyclostationarity based detection are based on primary user signal features. However energy...

Performance Analysis and Optimization of Optically Steered Arrayed Antennas with Gratings

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Shabani, Mostafa (Author) ; Akbari, Mahmood (Supervisor)
    Abstract
It is well known that arrays of antennas make it possible to steer the radiation pattern without steering a physical structure. For the past few decades this has been considered for many civil and military communication systems. Recently, ultra-short pulses are considered for high resolution radars and ultra-wideband communication systems. Systems with short pulses and large antenna arrays may benefit from high resolution in both temporal and spatial domains. But the implementation of the ultra-wideband feeding circuits for such antenna arrays is a hard job even with state of the art electronics. Optical technology has been applied, successfully, to a number of radio applications such as...

    Abstract
A new structure is suggested for simultaneous microwave chirped pulse generation and array antenna beam steering. It is based on using a multi-channel fiber Bragg grating in a photonic microwave delay-line filter. The paper presents a feasibility study of the idea, discussing the main performance parameters of both signal generation and beam steering functions. Specifically, it focuses on the effects of wavelength tuning, resolution and accuracy. The study shows that custom off-the-shelf components could be used to implement an all optical system capable of generating chirped pulses while steering the radiation pattern of a small sized antenna array. The advantages of the structure for...

Effects of group delay ripple on optical beam-formers for pulsed antenna arrays

    , Article Optical and Quantum Electronics ; Volume 43, Issue 6-10 , November , 2012 , Pages 109-120 ; 03068919 (ISSN) Shabani, M ; Akbari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Springer New York LLC  2012
    Abstract
A semi-analytical formulation is presented to quantify the effects of group delay ripple on the performance of an optical beam-former. For delay elements, implemented with commercially available multi-channel fiber Bragg gratings, an impulse response is introduced and calculated for the group delay ripple. To do this, the transfer function of the fiber Bragg grating is parted into two dispersive and non-dispersive sections. This will also easethe demonstration of the fiber Bragg grating as a true time delay element. The formulation is applied to an ultra-wideband pulsed array of antennas. As an example the array factor and electric field patterns of a four element antenna array is derived,...

Non-linear effects of intensity-modulated and directly detected optical links on receiving a linear frequency-modulated waveform

    , Article IET Optoelectronics ; Volume 5, Issue 6 , 2011 , Pages 255-260 ; 17518768 (ISSN) Shabani, M ; Akbari, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
Limitations imposed by the non-linearity of optical links, in the front end of a receiving array antenna, on the performance of a pulse compression radar are studied. Particularly linear frequency-modulated waveforms backscattered from a pair of targets are inspected. Inter-modulation and gain compression by noise are presented as two remarkable phenomena. For an interconnection of two dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulators, the sensitivity of the compressed echo at the output of a matched filter receiver to certain tunable parameters is studied numerically. Finally, certain values of DC bias and phase shift between the modulators' electrodes are recommended

Processing and Characterization of Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of PC/PBT Blend

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Shabani, Farzan (Author) ; Bagheri, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Blend of Polycarbonate/ poly(butylene terephthalate) is among the most famous blends of polycarbonate/polyester with vast engineering applications and unique properties. Miscibility and compatibilization of this blend are important as they directly influence the general properties.Transesterification which occurs in the melt state, is a series of cutting and rejoining of dissimilar polymer chains. The reaction ruins the order of pure chains and forms block copolymers of different natures. Further progress in transesterification lead into a completely random copolymer of initial chains. Time, temperature and addition of catalyst can effectively influence transesterification. In this study,...
