Generating Random Points in a Convex Body in High Dimensions

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khezeli, Ali (Author) ; Alishahi, Kasra (Supervisor)
    Abstract
“How can we generate a random point with uniform distribution over a convex body ?” According to it’s applications, it’s important for a solution to this problem to be applicable in high dimensions. Here, we are interested in algorithms with polynomial order with respect to the dimension. All existing methods for dealing with this problem are based on the Markov chain Monte Carlo method, i.e. a random walk is constructed in such that its stationary distribution is the uniform distribution over. Then, after simulating “enough” steps of this random walk, the distribution of the resulting point is “approximately” uniform. The real problem in Monte Carlo method is analyzing its “mixing time”,...

Modeling and Identification of Satellite Thermal Radiation Model for Attitude Estimation Using Temperature Sensors

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Moghanipour, Marjan (Author) ; Pourtakdoust, Hossein (Supervisor) ; Kiani, Maryam (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Attaining accurate information about satellite attitude is one of the most important requirements in space missions in order to improve the accuracy of the satellite control and mission objectives. Many different sensors such as sun sensor, star sensor, horizon sensor, etc. are used to estimate spacecraft’s attitude. Attitude estimation using temperature sensors is a topic that has recently been addressed by some related researchers because, they need less power and budget to operate in comparison with the other sensors.Accuracy and heat model performance improvement is the main purpose of this project. To achieve a more accurate perspective of space thermal model, and the way heat transfers...

Multiscale Modelling of Non-Isothermal Multiphase Flow in Heterogeneous Porous Media with Computational Homogenization Approach

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Saeedmonir, Saeed (Author) ; Khoei, Amir Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the real engineering problems, the existing materials in the nature or human-made materials, contain different heterogeneities from the view of small scale. Reinforced composite materials and porous media containing grains or micro-cracks are some examples of these materials. Due to the large amount of these heterogeneities as well as the small size, direct modelling of these micro-structures requires extremely high computational and memorial cost. Also, the equivalent models introduced in the literature, have strong limitations and therefore, cannot capture accurate behavior of the material. Hence, multiscale methods have been proposed in order to model these heterogeneous media with...

EVA /BT/MWCNT Hybrid Composites: Morphology, Electrical and Mechanical Properties

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Khodsetan, Haniyeh (Author) ; Frounchi, Masoud (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In this research, the EVA/BT/MWCNT nanocomposites were prepared via the solution casting method in the various weight fractions of Barium titanate (BT) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT). Barium titanate-based ceramic material has a high dielectric constant, and it is used in the manufacture of sensors, capacitors, and electrical memories. On the other hand, multi-walled carbon nanotubes, due to electric charges on their surface and high electrical conductivity, can affect the dielectric properties combined with barium titanate and the hybrid of these two materials a polymer matrix suitable for special applications. In this study, ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer was used as a...
