Abstract
The morphological manipulation and structural characterisation of TiO 2-MgO binary system by an aqueous particulate sol-gel route were reported. Different crystal structures including pure MgTiO 3, mixtures of MgTiO 3 and TiO 2 and mixtures of MgTiO 3 and Mg 2TiO 4 were tailored by controlling Mg:Ti molar ratio and annealing temperatures as the processing parameters. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) revealed that all compounds crystallised at the low temperature of 500 °C. Furthermore, it was found that the average crystallite size of the compounds depends upon the Mg:Ti molar ratio as well as the annealing temperature, being in the range 3-5 nm at...

Titanium tetraisopropoxide and silver nitrate were used as precursors, hydroxypropyl cellulose was used as a polymeric fugitive agent in order to increase the specific surface area. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) revealed that the phase composition of the mixed oxide depends upon the annealing temperature, being a mixture of TiO2 and AgO in the range 573 K to 773 K (300 °C to 500 °C) and a mixture of TiO2, AgO, Ag2O at 973 K (700 °C). Furthermore, one of the smallest crystallite sizes was obtained for TiO...

Abstract
Nanostructured TiO2-ZrO2 thin films and powders were prepared by a straightforward aqueous particulate sol-gel route. Titanium (IV) isopropoxide and zirconium (IV) acetate hydrate were used as precursors, and hydroxypropyl cellulose was used as a polymeric fugitive agent in order to increase the specific surface area. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy revealed that the powder were crystallised at the low temperature of 500 °C, containing anatase-TiO 2 and tetragonal-ZrO2 phases. Furthermore, it was found that ZrO2 retarded the anatase-to-rutile transformation up to 900 °C. The activation energies for crystallite growth of TiO2 and ZrO2 components in...

Field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) analysis and atomic force microscope (AFM) images...

Development of nanocrystalline TiO2-Er2O3 and TiO2-Ta2O5 thin film gas sensors: Controlling the physical and sensing properties
, Article Sensors and Actuators, B: Chemical ; Volume 141, Issue 1 , 2009 , Pages 76-84 ; 09254005 (ISSN) ; Fray, D. J ; Sharif University of Technology

Abstract
A systematic comparison of single and binary metal oxide TiO2, TiO2-Er2O3 and TiO2-Ta2O5 thin film gas sensors with nanocrystalline and mesoporous microstructure, prepared by sol-gel route, was conducted. The gas sensitivity was increased by secondary phase introduction into TiO2 film via two mechanisms, firstly due to the inhibition of anatase-to-rutile transformation, since the anatase phase accommodates larger amounts of adsorbed oxygen, and secondly due to the retardation of grain growth, since the higher surface area provides more active sites for gas molecule adsorption. The binary metal oxide gas sensors exhibited a remarkable response towards low concentrations of CO and NO2 gases at...

Abstract
Small islands around the world face various hazards such as sea-water level rise, hurricanes, human activities over pressure, environmental degradation, and pollution. Resiliency is a critical feature that has to be maintained in these sensitive and vulnerable areas. This paper focuses on the importance of Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) in increasing the level of resiliency in small islands. Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) has been recommended for practice by United Nations 1992 Rio Conference resolution to conserve the valuable natural resources of the coastal areas around the globe and improve their deteriorating environmental conditions. Integrated coastal management plan...

Abstract
A stable composite film of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) decorated on reduced graphene oxide is prepared by a two-step simple procedure. The surface morphology of the modified electrode is characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques. The electrochemical behavior of tinidazole (TNZ) on the surface of the modified electrode is investigated by linear sweep voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The prepared composite electrode acts as a highly sensitive platform for the voltammetric determination of TNZ, leading to a significant increase in the reduction peak current of TNZ. The effects of experimental parameters such as the...

Abstract
Nanostructured and mesoporous TiO2-Ga2O3 thin films with various Ti:Ga atomic ratios were prepared by a new straightforward particulate sol-gel route. Titanium isopropoxide and gallium (III) nitrate hydrate were used as precursors, and hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) was used as a polymeric fugitive agent (PFA) in order to increase the specific surface area (SSA). XRD and TEM analysis of the powders revealed that the Ga2O3 formed from the nitrate precursor retarded anatase-to-rutile transformation, crystallization and crystal growth. The average crystallite size of pure TiO2 powder annealed at 600-1000 °C were in the range 4-10 nm; the values that could be decreased to 2-6 nm for TiO2-Ga2O3...

Abstract
Passenger Vehicle Type Choice (PVTC) has an undeniable impact on crash severity and costs. To estimate that, one must carefully consider subjective factors as well as objective ones. Ignoring the role of subjective variables can cause bias in the estimation of the effective variables' coefficients. The present paper investigates the impact of safety attitude, transportation attitude, and lifestyle on PVTC in a bi-level structure. To do so, we used the data from 633 face-to-face interviews conducted in Iran. The passenger vehicles investigated in this study are divided into five categories according to their weight and safety performance: mini, compact, medium, large, and sport utility...

Abstract
This paper adopts a holistic approach to stress detection issues in software and hardware phases and aims to develop and evaluate a specific low-power and low-cost sensor using physiological signals. First, a stress detection model is presented using a public data set, where four types of signals, temperature, respiration, electrocardiogram (ECG), and electrodermal activity (EDA), are processed to extract 65 features. Using Kruskal-Wallis analysis, it is shown that 43 out of 65 features demonstrate a significant difference between stress and relaxed states. K nearest neighbor (KNN) algorithm is implemented to distinguish these states, which yields a classification accuracy of 96.0 ± 2.4%. It...

Abstract
In this paper, we propose a plasmonic structure based on Kretschmann configuration capable of performing various computational tasks, i.e. two dimensional isotropic differentiation, gradient and divergence computation. By means of two polarizers, a non-trivial topological charge can be generated in the transfer function of the structure thereby implementing a two dimensional differentiator. By using only one polarizer, on the other hand, the structure is able to compute either the gradient of the field distribution of a polarized light beam or the divergence of the field of an unpolarized light beam. The performance of the proposed structure in two dimensional differentiation has been...
Effect of small scale flow barriers heterogeneities and connate water on displacement efficiency of polymer floods to heavy oil reservoirs

Abstract
This work concerns a fundamental understanding of how heterogeneities induced by flow barriers and connate water affect the displacement efficiency of polymer floods, which has rarely been studied in the available literature. Here, a series of water/polymer injection experiments to heavy oil performed on five-spot glass micromodels containing randomly distributed shale structures is presented. It has been found that macroscopic efficiency of polymer flooding majorly depends on flow barriers distribution/configuration; shale content and geometrical characteristics; presence of connate water and wettability of medium. Microscopic pictures revealed that the main parts of connate water were...
