Through Silicon Via (TSV) to Transistor Noise Coupling Characterization

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amiri, Sajjad (Author) ; Sarvari, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Due to the physical limitations of the conventional 2D ICs at Giga-Scale Integration, modern technologies have been emerged. Among them, through silicon via (TSV) - based 3D ICs have been used to continue Moore’s law in the interconnect era. In these systems, dies are stacked at z-direction after wafer thinning. Electrical connections between stacked dies are done by TSVs. One important advantage of 3D integration technology is their ability to stack heterogeneous systems with different technologies on a single chip. This will not only increase interconnect density but also will reduce the delay and power consumption. However, nowadays, fabrication and optimum design of TSVs are still big...

A ¬High Order Accurate Numerical Solution of Incompressible Slip Flow in Microchannels with Heat Transfer by Using Artificial Compressibility Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohafez, Mir Hamed (Author) ; Hejranfar, Kazem (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In the present study, a high-order accurate numerical solution of steady incompressible slip flow and heat transfer in 2D microchannels is presented. The numerical method used is an alternating direction implicit operator scheme which is efficiently implemented to solve the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in the primitive variables formulation using the artificial compressibility method. To stabilize the numerical solution, numerical filters are used. The present methodology considers the solution of the Navier-Stokes equations with¬ employing different slip boundary condition¬¬ (Maxwell,¬ ¬¬Hyperbolic tangent function of Knudsen number¬ and Beskok slip models)¬ ¬¬on the wall to model...

Dynamic compaction method in physical model tests

    Sharif University of Technology  2006
    Abstract
In this paper, physical modeling tests are conducted to study some aspects of the dynamic compaction method. The loose models are prepared with dry sand. Four cylindrical tampers with different weight and cross section areas are used for compaction of the models and dropped from various heights. Strain gage type total stress measuring sensors are placed at different levels inside the model to measure the transferred vertical stresses due to collision of the tamper with the surface of the models. The typical stress time histories are presented. Improvement depth and crater depth and diameter created on the model surface are studied, among the various parameters affecting the phenomena. Using...

Development of metal matrix composites and nanocomposites via double-pressing double-sintering (dpds) method

    Abstract
Achieving high densification parameter is an essential factor for metal-based composites to represent excellent mechanical characteristics. Among various compaction methods, double-pressing double-sintering (DPDS) has gained the attraction of researchers to fabricate metal-matrix composites (MMCs) as an efficient technique over the last decade. In this process, the powder will be pre-pressed and then pre-sintered; it helps reduce work hardening and prepare the sample for better densification in the next pressing and sintering step. By employing the above-mentioned method, carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced aluminum nanocomposites; ZrB2 reinforced copper nanocomposites; and CNT reinforced...

Evaluation of the geo-mechanical parameters of the interface between asphalt concrete and sand with applying direct shear test and numerical modeling

    , Article Advanced Materials Research ; Volume 587 , 2012 , Pages 116-121 ; 10226680 (ISSN) ; 9783037855133 (ISBN) Tajdini, M ; Rostami, A ; Karimi, M. M ; Taherkhani, H

    Abstract
Asphaltic concrete has been used as waterproofing core in embankment dams, since 1948. In this application, the asphaltic core is surrounded by granular filter materials. The interaction of the asphaltic concrete and the granular materials has not been sufficiently investigated. In this paper the mechanical behavior of the interface between a natural smooth sand filter and asphaltic concrete at different levels of normal stresses and a constant shear strain rate has been studied. Small scale direct shear test has been conducted in this study, in which the shear surface is considered as the interface. Asphalt concrete specimens used in the shear test were cut in square shape (10×10×2.5 cm)...
