    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
A cavity resonator containing graphene nanopores (GNPs), along with a metallic layer (Ag, as a reflector) and a dielectric layer (SiO2, as a spacer), has been proposed for broadband wide-angle absorption of light. The GNP/SiO2/Ag multilayers showed high significant increase in the absorption efficiency (with respect to the G/SiO2/Ag multilayer) in a broad spectral range (from ultra-violet (UV) and visible range to near-infrared (NIR)), due to the cavity resonance and absorptions induced by the oxygen-containing functional groups formed around the nanopores of graphene. The dependences of the cavity resonance absorption on the quality of the GNP layer, dimension of the cavity and the incident...

Modeling of Pull-In Instability of Nano/Micromirrors Under the Combined Effect of Capillary and Casimir Forces

    , Article International Journal of Optomechatronics ; Volume 5, Issue 4 , Dec , 2011 , Pages 378-392 ; 15599612 (ISSN) Moeenfard, H ; Darvishian, A ; Ahmaidan, M. T ; Sharif University of Technology
    2011
    Abstract
In the current article the effect of the Casimir force on the static behavior and pull-in characteristics of nano/micromirrors under capillary force is investigated. At the first, the dimensionless equation governing the static behavior of nano/micromirrors is obtained. The dependency of the critical tilting angle on the physical and geometrical parameters of the nano/micromirror and its supporting torsional beams is investigated. It is found that the Casimir effect can considerably reduce the pull-in instability limits of the nano/micromirror. It is also found that rotation angle of the mirror under capillary force highly depends on the Casimir force applied to the mirror. Finally the...

    Abstract
Accelerometers that work based on intensity modulation of light are more sensitive, economically feasible, and have a simpler fabrication process compared to wavelength modulation. A micro-opto-electro-mechanical-system accelerometer based on intensity modulation of light is designed and fabricated. A movable shutter that is attached to the proof mass is designed to change the intensity of light. Moreover, the mechanical part is designed to improve the overall sensitivity and linear behavior in the measurement range. The designed accelerometer is fabricated by a deep-reactive-ion-etching (DRIE) process. The DRIE process used in this report is based on a Bosch-like process, which uses SF 6...

Surface roughness analysis of hydrophilic SiO2/TiO 2/glass nano bilayers by the level crossing approach

    , Article Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications ; Volume 392, Issue 9 , 2013 , Pages 2175-2181 ; 03784371 (ISSN) Daryaei, E ; Reza Rahimi Tabar, M ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
The effect of etching time on the statistical properties of hydrophilic surfaces of SiO2/TiO2/glass nano bilayers has been studied using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and a stochastic approach based on a level crossing analysis. We have created rough surfaces of the hydrophilic SiO 2/TiO2 nano bilayer system by using 26% potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution. Measuring the average apparent contact angle allowed us to assess the degree of hydrophilicity, and the optimum condition was determined to be 10 min etching time. A level crossing analysis based on AFM images provided deeper insight into the microscopic details of the surface topography. With different etching times, it has been shown...

    Abstract
Parallel micro actuators are mostly fabricated using the wet etching process within which the presence of capillary force and the resulting pull-in instabilities can severely affect the success of the fabrication process. In the case the capillary force is large enough then the beam like structure of the micro actuators is collapsed. The current paper investigates; static behavior of microcantilevers under effect of capillary force. It is observed that with increasing the instability number defined in the paper, the deflection of the micro-cantilevers is increased. This study shows in the wet etching fabrication process, if the distance between the beam and substrate is small enough, the...

Design, simulation and fabrication of a MEMS accelerometer by using sequential and pulsed-mode DRIE processes

    , Article Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering ; Volume 27, Issue 1 , 2017 ; 09601317 (ISSN) Gholamzadeh, R ; Jafari, K ; Gharooni, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Institute of Physics Publishing  2017
    Abstract
A sensitive half-bridge MEMS accelerometer fabricated by sequential and pulsed-mode processes is presented in this paper. The proposed accelerometer is analyzed by using conventional equations and the finite element method. The micromachining technology used in this work relies on two processes: sequential and pulsed-mode. In the sequential deep reactive ion etching process, a mixture of hydrogen and oxygen with a trace value of SF6 is used instead of polymeric material in the passivation step. The pulsed-mode process employs periodic hydrogen pulses in continuous fluorine plasma. Because of the continuous nature of this process, plus the in situ passivation caused by the hydrogen pulses,...

    Abstract
Demand increasing for next generation portable and miniaturized electronics has aroused much interest to explore microscale and lightweight energy storage devices. Herein, we demonstrate successful development of flexible wire-shaped micro-supercapacitors (micro-SCs) based on novel CoNi2S4/E-NZP film@Cu wire electrode. The etched Ni-Zn-P (E-NZP) film was synthesized by directly deposition of NZP film on Cu wire, followed by a chemical etching process. Alkaline etching treatment provides a micro- and mesoporous structure with high surface area and facilitates the penetration of electrolyte ions into the electrode matrix. Then, CoNi2S4 nanosheets as electroactive material are electrochemically...

    Abstract
Porous silicon (PS) is widely utilized in gas sensors. Palladium is a good choice to sensitize the surface of PS to hydrogen. Ideally for highest sensitivity of the sensor, all the pores of PS should be completely covered with palladium. Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy (RBS) technique is routinely used to determine depth profile of elements in thin layers. By using microbeam analysis as a complementary technique, we clearly observed the lateral image of penetrated Pd in depth. In this work, we used electrochemically anodized-silicon wafer doped with Pd by the electroless process. In our analysis, we intentionally characterized both the area of PS where Electric Field is applied during...

GMR in multilayered nanowires electrodeposited in track-etched polyester and polycarbonate membranes

    , Article Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials ; Volume 308, Issue 1 , 2007 , Pages 35-39 ; 03048853 (ISSN) Nasirpouri, F ; Southern, P ; Ghorbani, M ; Iraji zad, A ; Schwarzacher, W ; Sharif University of Technology
    2007
    Abstract
Commercially available track-etched polyester membranes were used as templates to electrodeposit Co-Ni-Cu/Cu multilayered nanowires, giving room-temperature current perpendicular to plane (CPP) giant magnetoresistance (GMR) values of up to ∼12%. In contrast to similar nanowires electrodeposited in track-etched polycarbonate membranes, the GMR obtained in multilayered nanowires electrodeposited in the polyester membranes increased with decreasing Cu-layer thickness tCu, for tCu in the 2-7 nm range, indicating a lack of ferromagnetic coupling through pinholes, etc. Transmission electron micrographs showed clear evidence for smooth, parallel layer interfaces in the nanowires. © 2006 Elsevier...

    Abstract
Electrodeposition of long and well-defined gold nanotubes in polycarbonate (PC) templates is still a major concern due to pore blockage problems. In the present study, we introduce a novel method for electrodeposition of long gold nanotubes within the pores of PC templates for the first time. In order to deposit gold atoms onto the pore walls preferentially, pore walls were functionalized with a coupling agent. Short and thin Ni nanotubes were then electrodeposited at the bottom of the pores. Gold nanotubes were subsequently electrodeposited at constant potentials and low solution concentrations. The morphology of nanotubes was characterized by electron microscopy and their formation...

    Abstract
The present paper demonstrates the performance of the radiation grafting technique as a chemically based surface pretreatment method to adhesion modification of polyethylene surfaces toward the metallic layer. Gamma irradiation over a dose range of 4-10 kGy is used for grafting of vinyl monomers including acrylamide (AAm) and 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP) onto the surface of three different polyethylenes including low density polyethylene (LDPE) and two kinds of high density polyethylenes, namely HDPE-1 and HDPE-2. The grafting yield is evaluated based on the weight increase of the samples. It is found that the grafting yield is dominated by the crystallinity of the polyethylene, so that lower...

    Abstract
Denim jeans have consistently been fashionable around the world. This fabric inspired strong opinions from historians, teenagers, and movie stars, and has acquired different styles throughout the years. Most jeans today are stonewashed; this technique first become popular in 1970. Now, in addition to pumice stones, enzymes are used on the cotton fabrics to create the stonewashed look. Nowadays, plasma treatment is a cost-effective and environment-friendly process which is able to modify the properties of the fabric surface in order to achieve this effect. Plasma surface treatment changes the properties of the fabric up to a limited depth (several molecular layers), leaving the bulk...

    Abstract
The effect of temper rolling and subsequent annealing on texture development and magnetic properties of semi-processed non grain oriented electrical steel has been investigated. The result shows that 5 % temper rolling and final annealing at 850 8C resulted in strong a-fiber component. The etch-pit technique shows that strain induced boundary migration is responsible for new texture component augmentation. Vibrating sample magnetometery reveals that maximum and minimum magnetic permeability are related to rolling and transverse directions, respectively. Average magnetic permeability is improved to some extent as a result of temper rolling and subsequent annealing. © Carl Hanser Verlag GmbH &...
