Investigating the Performance of Fluidized bed Dryer in Immobilization and Drying of A-amylase Enzyme

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sharifi, Baha (Author) ; Roostaazad, Reza (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Enzyme immobilization/drying operations are among the important operations of many biotechnological industrial units. The enzyme used in this study is bacterial alpha-amylase, which is widely used in various industries, including detergents. The production of alpha-amylase enzyme contains a large percentage of water in its composition; therefore, a wet wall tower was designed to conduct the experiments to evaporate the water present in the enzyme liquor, analyze its effects on activity, and also to validate the device. The results showed that in a flow of air around 240m3/hr and ambient temperature of 20◦C, enzyme liquor has a 250% increase in biological activity, which indicates the...

Stabilization and Immobilization of Protease Enzyme

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Koushki, Safa (Author) ; Yaghmaei, Soheyla (Supervisor) ; Roosta Azad, Reza (Supervisor) ; Yeganeh Sarkandi, Shahin (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Enzymes are biological catalysts that reduce the activation energy of a reaction in a short time and thus increase the speed of the reaction. The most common enzymes used in various industries, including the detergent industry, are lipases, amylases, celluloses, and proteases. Proteases are one of the most important industrial enzymes. The performance of enzymes is affected by the durability of their activity in long-term storage. Therefore, using a technique that can maintain the activity of enzymes, under storage and usage conditions, is an essential step in making a product containing enzymes. Stabilization-immobilization operation is one of the important downstream processes in...

Moisture diffusivity and shrinkage of broad beans during bulk drying in an inert medium fluidized bed dryer assisted by dielectric heating

    Abstract
Drying behavior of broad beans (Vicia faba) was studied in a pilot scaled fluidized bed dryer with inert particles assisted by dielectric heating. The effective diffusion coefficient of moisture transfer was determined by Fickian method at four different air drying temperatures of 35, 45, 55 and 65 °C. Correlations for moisture diffusivity as a function of moisture content and temperature of the drying medium were developed. The values of moisture diffusivity were obtained within the range of 1.27 × 10-9-6.48 × 10-9 m2/s and the activation energies for FBD and FBD + DE were found to be 27.71 and 17.10 kJ/mol, respectively. The shrinkage behavior of the broad beans was also investigated by...
