    Abstract
In this study, critical temperature and frequency characteristics of a doubly curved panel are reinforced by graphene nanoplatelets (GPLs) with the aid of a two-dimensional generalized differential quadrature method (2D-GDQM) are investigated. The size effects are included using nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT) that has two length scale parameters, and the panel is modeled as a panel using high order shear deformation theory (HSDT). The mechanical properties of GPLs are calculated based on the rule of mixtures and the modified Halpin-Tsai model. The novelty of the current study is in considering the effects of the thermal environment, various boundary conditions, and size effects on...

    Abstract
This is the first research on the frequency analysis of a graphene nanoplatelet composite (GPLRC) microdisk in the framework of a numerical-based generalized differential quadrature method. The stresses and strains are obtained using the higher-order shear deformable theory. Rule of mixture is employed to obtain varying mass density, thermal expansion, and Poisson’s ratio, while module of elasticity is computed by modified Halpin–Tsai model. Governing equations and boundary conditions of the GPLRC microdisk covered with piezoelectric layer are obtained by implementing Hamilton’s principle. Regarding perfect bonding between the piezoelectric layer and core, the compatibility conditions are...

    Abstract
In the present study, three influential parameters including concentration, temperature and specific surface area of graphene nanosheets were investigated, which are the effective parameters on the viscosity and thermal conductivity of aqueous graphene nanosheets (GNP) nanofluids. A mathematical model developed by respond surface methodology (RSM) based on a central composite design (CCD). Also, the significance of the models was tested using the analysis of variance (ANOVA). The optimum results of aqueous GNP nanofluid showed that the concentration has a direct effect on the relative viscosity and thermal conductivity. Furthermore, predicted responses proposed by the Design Expert software...

The physical and thermal properties of the GNP nanofluids including stability, specific heat capacity, viscosity and thermal conductivity were investigated. The thermal efficiency tests on the solar collector were carried out for varying volumetric flow rate of 0.5, 0.1, and 1.5 L/min while the ASHRAE standard 93–2003 was considered to calculate the efficiency of the collector. The results indicated that the solar...

    Abstract
This article investigates the influences of nonuniform imperfection on the dynamic amplitude and resonance frequency of the nanoshell reinforced with graphene nanoplatelet (GNP). The novelty of the current study is to consider the effects of porosity, thermal loading and graphene platelet reinforced composites on the dynamic behavior of the nanostructure. Three-length scale parameters (l0=5 h, l1=3 h, l2=5 h) in the modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) show a better agreement with MD simulation in comparison with other theories. Finally, the effects of different factors on the dynamic amplitude and resonance frequency of the porous nanostructure are examined in detail. © 2019, © 2019...

    Abstract
In this study, a cylindrical microshell stability reinforced by graphene nanoplatelets is investigated while an axial load is applied uniformly. The governing equations (G.Eqs) and BCs have been obtained utilizing energy method and solved with...

Flexible high dielectric polystyrene/ethylene-α-octene copolymer/graphene nanocomposites: Tuning the morphology and dielectric properties by graphene's surface polarity

    , Article Polymers for Advanced Technologies ; Volume 33, Issue 3 , 2022 , Pages 937-951 ; 10427147 (ISSN) Goodarzi, M ; Pircheraghi, G ; Khonakdar, H. A ; Altstadt, V ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The current research focuses on suggesting a new potential application of polymeric materials for capacitor applications by focusing on polystyrene (PS)/ethylene-α-octene copolymer (EOC) blends. Polymeric materials have high dielectric strength (≈ 200 for PS), good processability, and flexibility. However, their low dielectric constants make them not suitable for capacitor applications. Therefore, suggesting a method for enhancing their dielectric constant accompanied by low tan δ proposes an excellent substitute for commonly used ceramic dielectrics. The current article investigates the control of the dielectric properties of PS/EOC blends by manipulating the graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs)...

    Abstract
In this research, a series of numerical simulations were conducted utilizing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software in order to predict the heat transfer performance of queues nanofluids containing clove-treated graphene nanoplatelets (CGNPs) flowing in a horizontal stainless steel heated pipe. The GNPs were covalently functionalized with clove buds using free radical grafting reaction using an eco-friendly process. The advantage of this synthesis method was that it did not use hazardous acids, which are typically used in traditional treatment methods of carbon nanostructures. The thermo-physical properties of the aqueous nanofluids obtained experimentally were used as inputs for the...

    , Article RSC Advances ; Vol. 4, issue. 105 , 2014 , p. 60720-60728 Hashemi, E ; Akhavan, O ; Shamsara, M ; Valimehr, S ; Rahighi, R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Graphene nanoplatelets with lateral dimensions of ∼50-200 nm and thicknesses <2 nm were utilized for the extraction of nucleic acids (NAs) from eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. The graphene nanoplatelets (both chemically exfoliated graphene oxide nanoplatelets and hydrazine-reduced graphene oxide nanoplatelets) successfully extracted plasmid DNA (pDNA) from Escherichia coli bacteria, comparable to a conventional phenol-chloroform (PC) method. Furthermore, it was found that the yield of graphene nanoplatelets in genomic DNA (gDNA) and RNA extractions from embryonic stem cells (ESCs) was also comparable to the yield of the conventional methods. The effects of the graphene nanoplatelets on...

    Abstract
Graphene nanoplatelets with different surface functional groups and polarity were prepared by Hummer's method and electrochemical exfoliation of graphite in two aqueous acids. The XRD, FTIR and sedimentation tests performed to characterize the polarity of the prepared graphenes. The highest polarity was associated with the sample prepared by Hummer's method and the sample synthesized by electrochemical exfoliation in nitric acid medium showed the moderate polarity. Meanwhile, the sample prepared in sulfuric acid medium showed the lowest polarity. Then thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)/graphene nanocomposite films were fabricated with solvent exchange method. While the dispersion state and...

    Abstract
Used lubricating oil (ULO) is a heavy mixture of various hydrocarbons and needs to be treated before discharging. Considering ULO nature, it is more favorable to recover lighter hydrocarbon cuts from ULO, which not only improves the whole process economically, but also prevents the emission of hardly decomposable hydrocarbons into the environment. In this research, the potential of pyrolysis method for ULO recovery was studied. Furthermore, graphene nanoplatelets (GNP), γ- Fe2O3 and ZnO nanoparticles were used to improve the kinetics of the process and their impacts on the final product quality were evaluated. Based on the results, adding nanomaterials increased the tendency to produce gas...

    Abstract
Graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) are ideal reinforcements for improving the mechanical properties of aluminum-based matrices due to their outstanding properties. However, it essentially depends on their uniform dispersion in the matrix. In this study, the challenge of uniform dispersion of graphene was performed by functionalizing the non-covalent surface and sonication of GNPs applying non-ionic polymeric ethyl cellulose (EC) surfactant, in which a colloidal mixture was provided with Al powder and graphene, followed by sintering at 620 °C and consolidation. The density and mechanical properties of nanocomposite specimens were investigated and compared with a non-surfactant-assisted Al/GNP...
