Simulation and Building a Self-Cleaning/Cooling Solar Panel System

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Salari, Ali (Author) ; Hakkaki-Fard, Ali (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Nowadays by fast growing the population and development of countries, the demand of energy is increasing rapidly. Solar energy is one of the most reliable and environment friendly source of energy. Photovoltaic modules (PV) are such a solar systems that is able to convert solar energy into electrical energy. However, some parameters such as increasing cell temperature and dust accumulation can reduce the PV modules efficiency. Increasing the cell temperature reduce the capability of electrical production of cells and dust accumulation is an obstacle for solar radiation absorption. As a result, in this research tempt to solve these problems by building a new device for PV modules. In this...

Experimental Analysis of Effective Parameters in Hole Cleaning of Directional Wells While Drilling

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Sarafraz, Siyamak (Author) ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Supervisor) ; Molaei Dehkordi, Asghar (Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the major problems in directional and extended reach wells is poor hole cleaning. Directional and horizontal drilling is more complex than vertical wells. Ineffective particles transport leads to several undesirable issues during drilling. This thesis analyzed all parameters which have directly affected directional hole cleaning. The thesis is based on an experimental set-up designed in Sharif University. In the experimental work, two types of drilling fluid, Newtonian and Non-Newtonian with numerous rheological parameters, three different flow rate, three various nozzle sizes and three individual RPMs in three distinct inclinations 30°, 60° and 90° were used to simulate. Also, to...

Modeling and Laboratory Evaluation of Rheological Properties of Water based Mud for Horizontal Extended Reach Well

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Latifi Shirdar, Babak (Author) ; Taghikhani, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Ghazanfari, Mohammad Hossein (Supervisor) ; Tahmasbi Nowtarki, Koroush (Co-Supervisor) ; Kalhor, Mojtaba (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
One of the most important challenges in drilling horizontal and directional wells is the optimization of hydraulics and hole cleaning and ECD management. In these wells, poor hole cleaning can lead to formation of cutting bed on the low side of the annulus and cause problems such as stuck pipe or increase in torque and drag. Also poor hydraulic design can lead to decrease in rate of penetration and thus, increase in costs. Mud weight should be placed inside the range of mud window (more than pore pressure and less than formation fracture pressure) in order to prevent kick of reservoir fluid or mud loss.In this thesis, the main goal is to optimize hydraulics and hole cleaning and manage ECD...

A Model for Effects of Hole Cleaning on Pipe Sticking by Considering Well, Fluid and Cutting Concentration Condition

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mousavi, Rahmatolah (Author) ; Taghikhani, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Jamshidi, Saeed (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Poor hole cleaning while drilling due to problems such as pipe sticking and ROP reducing will increase drilling cost. It is almost impossible to optimize the hole cleaning during the well planning due to the large number of effective parameters, so it is very important to monitor the hole cleaning conditions while drilling. The best way to monitor the well condition during drilling is using the real time drilling data (RTDD). Hook load (HKL) is one of many RTDD parameters that measured at the surface during drilling operations so it can be used to evaluate the hole cleaning condition. In this research, how to process the raw data recorded while drilling has been investigated. In the next...

Experimental Investigation of the Hole Cleaning Process in Horizontal and Inclined Wells Using a Custom-Made Water-Based Drilling Fluid

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Mohammadi Asfad, Mohammad (Author) ; Taghi khani, Vahid (Supervisor) ; Tahmasebi, Korosh (Co-Supervisor) ; Kalhor, Mogtaba (Co-Supervisor)
    Abstract
Currently, drilling such as vertical or straight-hole drilling, i.e. usually less than 30 degrees inclined, or deflection drilling is used to drill at conventional and even unconventional reservoirs around the world to increase recovery factor and productivity. A major challenge is cleaning the hole or removing debris which if not done properly can lead to problems such as stuck pipes. In addition, Improper use of drilling fluid in terms of rheological properties in different stages of drilling operations can cause the well to collapse due to the accumulation of particles in the annular space. The transfer speed of particles is very important in cleaning the well. Inefficient cleaning of...

Application of Hydrated Basil Seeds (HBS) as the herbal fiber on hole cleaning and filtration control

    , Article Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering ; Volume 152 , 2017 , Pages 212-228 ; 09204105 (ISSN) Movahedi, H ; Vasheghani Farahani, M ; Jamshidi, S ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2017
    Abstract
Application of the fiber contained fluids has been extensively increased in many industries. In the petroleum industry, fibrous fluids are utilized for different applications. For instance, they have been applied in drilling operations for hole cleaning and cutting removal. In this article, the results of the studies performed on the application of Hydrated Basil Seeds (HBS) as the herbal eco-friendly fiber on hole cleaning and filtration control were presented. In order to investigate the application of HBS on hole cleaning, Polyacrylamide (PA) was added to the pure water to provide the base fluid and HBS at different concentrations were suspended in the base fluid and the effect of HBS on...
