    Abstract
    In this study, tungsten oxide films were deposited by pulsed-laser deposition (PLD) technique. The as-deposited films were annealed at 250 °C in air for 1 h. The surface morphology, microstructure, crystalline phase, and chemical composition of the films were characterized by SEM, XRD and XPS techniques. Pt nanoparticles were deposited onto the tungsten oxide films through a two-step process. First of all, a layer of PtCl2 was coated on the WO3 surface by drop-drying the PtCl2 solution onto the WO3 surface at 60 °C.     Abstract
    In this study WO x films were deposited by laser ablation of ultra-pure (5N) tungsten trioxide targets onto SiO2 or silicon substrates at 250°C temperature, 100 mTorr oxygen partial pressure and 1×10-5 Torr vacuum. Surface chemical states and compositions of the deposits were determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results showed that deposits in oxygen partial pressure contain W6+ with x ∼ 3.1, while vacuum-deposited films have different W states with various percentage distributions as W4+>W5+>W 6+>W0, and x ∼ 1.     This article examines the Weibull statistical analysis that was used for investigating the effect of melt filtration on tensile properties and defects formed inside the casting. Forming and entrapping of double oxide films have been explained by using the context of critical velocity of melt in the runner.     The effects of melt quality and the placement of a filter in the filling system on Weibull distributions of tensile strength and elongation of Al-7%Si-Mg alloy castings were investigated. Three different combinations of melt quality and filtering were used: (a) unstirred, with filter in the filling system, (b) stirred to produce and entrain surface oxide films with no filter in the filling system to emulate poor initial melt preparation and melt handling, and (c) stirred and with a filter placed in the filling system.     Abstract
    We present a procedure for simultaneous deposition of enzyme-laden chitosan/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) film by electrophoretic deposition (EPD) for fast and efficient detection of glucose. The role of rGO nanosheets is studied on the EPD kinetics of the enzyme-laden suspensions. Investigating the performance of the biosensor by electrochemical techniques indicates its high sensitivity (9700 μA.mM−1.cm−2), low limit of detection (4 µM), and suitable selectivity. © 2021 Elsevier B.V

    In this study, chemical durability of metallic copper nanoparticles dispersed in sol-gel silica thin films was investigated by exposing the films to air after a reduction process. At first, heat treatment in air for 1 h produced silica films containing crystalline cupric oxide nanoparticles agglomerated on the film surface. Subsequently, reduction of the oxidized films in a reducing environment of N2-H2 for another 1 h at temperatures of 400, 500 and 600 °C resulted in the formation of crystalline metallic Cu nanoparticles diffused in the silica matrix.     In many casting experiments, a well is used in the bottom of downsprue, which causes smooth flow in the runner. When the well is not properly designed, sand erosion happens in the runner and some oxide films and gaseous trap within the melt. These oxide films enter into the cast and decrease its strength and fatigue resistance. In addition, the gaseous trapped in the melt turn into solidification voids within the casting part which deteriorate its mechanical properties.     The present study aimed to investigate the effects of old and young oxide films on the mechanical properties and reliability of Cast Al A356.2 alloy. The results indicate that the presence of oxides within the microstructure of the alloy decreased the tensile properties of the alloy and increased their scattering. Beside this, the presence of the oxides decreased the reliability of the alloy.     Modified tungsten oxide films by vanadium oxide provide neutrally coloring electrochromic electrodes for smart windows technology. In this study W-V-O mixed oxide films were fabricated by Nd:YAG pulsed laser deposition (PLD), λ=1064 nm, from mixed pressed powders of (WO3)1-x(V2O5)x, x=0, 0.09, 0.17, 0.23, 0.29 and 0.33, at 13.3 Pa oxygen partial pressure and 200 °C temperature on glass substrates.     Abstract
    Liquid phase deposition is a method to grow conformal TiO2 films with good crystallinity on various substrates. The growth depends on the hydrophilicity of the substrate surface and we found that mica is a substrate capable of forming uniform and thick films. Films were grown using an aqueous solution of TiF4 through a hydrolysis-condensation process. We have studied films properties; morphology, porosity and thickness, in terms of growth conditions, i.e. TiF4 concentration, growth temperature, deposition time and pH.     Graphene-tungsten oxide composite thin films with sheetlike surface morphology were fabricated and applied in photoinactivation of viruses under visible light irradiation. Using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, it was found that the chemically exfoliated graphene oxide sheets incorporated in the tungsten oxide film reduced through a visible light photocatalytic reduction.     Oxide bifilms (double oxide films) are one of the most important defects that influence the mechanical properties of cast aluminum alloys. To investigate the formation of oxide bifilms, castings with different heights of runner were examined. SEM and EDX analysis were used to study the presence of oxide bifilms and fracture surface of tensile test samples.     Abstract The effects of both Lithium modification and cooling rate on the microstructure and tensile properties of an in-situ prepared Al-15% Mg2Si composite were investigated. Adding 0.3%Li reduced the average size of Mg2Si primary particles from ~30 μm to ~ 6 μm. The effect of cooling rate was investigated by the use of a mold with different section thickness from 3 to 9 mm. The results show a refinement of primary particle size as a result of both Li additions and increased cooling rate, and their effects were additive.
