    Empirical assessment of the performance characteristics in turbocharger turbine and compressor

    Abstract
    The performance parameter uncertainties of turbomachines at different rotational speed were determined by experimental and analytical consideration. The instruments/sensors were located and installed according to the standards for evaluating the performance characteristics of turbine and compressor in a turbocharger laboratory in a wide range of rotational speeds. The comparison of turbine and compressor sensitivity shows that the sensitivity of compressor to 1% shift in the pressure is higher than that for the turbine. Results also show that the sensitivities of efficiency and power of turbine reduce as rotational speed increases. The total uncertainty of turbine and compressor are obtained...

    Abstract
    This paper introduces a new passive control device for protecting structures against earthquakes. The device consists of two welded pipes which have two smaller pipes inside them and the spaces between the pipes are filled with metals such as lead or zinc. The device is loaded in shear and takes advantage of plastification of the outer pipes, the inner pipes and the infilled metals, and the friction between metals as energy absorption mechanisms.     Abstract
    In this paper, we propose a new voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) with a high oscillation frequency yet low power consumption. The oscillator which is a single stage circuit has a low phase noise due to reduced noise sources. To evaluate the performance parameters, the oscillator was simulated in a 0.18-μm standard CMOS process. The results show that the oscillation frequency of VCO may vary between 4.66-5.9 GHz. Also, the phase noise of the VCO at oscillation frequency of 5.6 GHz is -99.7 dBc at 1 MHz offset frequency. Also, the power consumption was 4.8 mW at the same oscillation frequency. © 2007 IEEE

    Chip seal is one of the most economical pavement maintenance practice that extends pavement life. To ensure chip seal good performance several quality control methods have been developed. However, most of these methods are qualitative and only measure the stone loss under a certain number on loading. This research developed a new method for quality control of chip seal, based on the assumption that characteristics of the bond between chips and pavement surface play a key role in chip seal performance.     This paper presents a kinetic data structure (KDS) for maintenance of the Euclidean minimum spanning tree (EMST) on a set of moving points in 2-dimensional space. For a set of n points moving in the plane we build a KDS of size O(n) in O(nlogn) preprocessing time by which the EMST is maintained efficiently during the motion. This is done by applying the required changes to the combinatorial structure of the EMST which is changed in discrete timestamps.     The performance of an HTPB/N2O hybrid motor was experimentally investigated. A hybrid motor was designed and manufactured in a laboratory with the purpose of studying the effects of various parameters on the motor's performance, including fuel regression rate and specific impulse. A series of tests were conducted to find a correlation between the fuel regression rate and the oxidizer's mass flux. The effects of chamber's pressure on the regression rate as well as other performance parameters were investigated.
