    Abstract
Metal nanoclusters can be synthesized in various sizes and shapes and are typically protected with ligands to stabilize them. These ligands can also be used to tune the plasmonic properties of the clusters as the absorption spectrum of a protected cluster can be significantly altered compared to the bare cluster. In this paper, we computationally investigate the influence of thiolate ligands on the plasmonic intensity for silver, gold and alloy clusters. Using time-dependent density functional theory with tight-binding approximations, TD-DFT+TB, we show that this level of theory can reproduce the broad experimental spectra of Au144(SR)60 and Ag53Au91(SR)60 (R = CH3) compounds with...

    Abstract
Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy is a highly sensitive phenomenon and a powerful fingerprint detection tool that reflects the small changes in polarizability on the pattern and intensity of Raman signals. The SERS enhancement signals elucidate with the surface-selection rules. In this regard, molecular configuration and adsorption orientation on the surface, in addition to the direction of external electric field, can lead to different patterns of SERS spectra. To evaluate how the variation of these features influences the pattern and reproducibility of the spectra, the chemical charge-transfer SERS spectra for pyridine on silver clusters are calculated for different field directions,...

    , Article Sensors and Actuators, B: Chemical ; Volume 109, Issue 2 , 2005 , Pages 278-284 ; 09254005 (ISSN) Shahrokhian, S ; Karimi, M ; Khajehsharifi, H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2005
    Abstract
The electrochemical behavior of captopril at the surface of a carbon-paste electrode (CPE) modified with cobalt-5-nitrolsalophen (CoNSal) is described. The prepared electrode shows an excellent electrocatalytic activity toward the oxidation of captopril, which is leading to marked lowering in the anodic overpotential and considerable improvement of sensitivity (anodic current). Whereas at the surface of unmodified electrode an electrochemical activity for captopril cannot be observed, a very sharp anodic wave with an anodic peak potential about 650 mV (versus Ag/AgCl) is obtained using the prepared modified electrode. This catalytic wave is assigned to mediating of Co(III)/Co(II) redox...

    Abstract
Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been performed to investigate the electronic structure and photocatalytic activity of a hybrid Ag3PO4(111)/g-C3N4 structure. Due to Ag(d) and O(p) states forming the upper part of the valence band and C(p), N(p), and Ag(s) the lower part of the conduction band, the band gap of the hybrid material is reduced from 2.75 eV for Ag3PO4(111) and 3.13 eV for monolayer of g-C3N4 to about 2.52 eV, enhancing the photocatalytic activity of the Ag3PO4(111) surface and g-C3N4 sheet in the visible region. We have also investigated possible reaction pathways for photocatalytic CO2 reduction on the Ag3PO4(111)/g-C3N4 nanocomposite to determine the most...

    Abstract
In this work, the combination of H2O2 and an active visible-light-driven photocatalyst (Ag-S/PEG/TiO2) was utilized under natural solar radiation for the degradation of 2-nitrophenol (2-NP), and interaction effects between the photocatalyst and hydrogen peroxide were analyzed. For this purpose, experiments were designed using the response surface methodology based on the central composite design. The resulting data was utilized to obtain a model for the prediction of response (the degradation efficiency) as a function of two independent factors (H2O2 concentration and the photocatalyst loading). The statistical analysis indicated that optimum values of each of the two independent factors...

    Abstract
Development of a convenient and inexpensive method for identification and detection of nanoparticles (NPs) is of great interest. In this work, we have developed a novel and simple chemiluminescence based sensor array, with its sensing mechanism mimicking that of olfactory and gustatory systems for discriminating a set of NPs. The proposed method is based on the enhancement effect of NPs on luminol–oxidant CL intensity by their catalytic effect. Three kinds of oxidant including H2O2, AgNO3, and K3Fe(CN)6 were used as sensor elements and NPs exhibited diverse enhancing responses to different oxidant-luminol CL systems producing unique response patterns that were identified through heat map and...

    Abstract
Cu-based metal organic framework/rGO was used as an effective cocatalyst to synthesis novel Ag3VO4/Cu-MOF/rGO nanocomposite. The resulting photocatalysts were characterized by different microscopic and spectroscopic methods. The photocatalytic degradation studies on acid blue 92 showed that Ag3VO4/Cu-MOF/rGO nanocomposite indicated significant improved activity compared with pure Ag3VO4 and Cu-MOF/rGO. The improved photocatalytic activity of nanocomposite was attributed to the increased surface area and effective charge carrier separation and transport in the nanocomposite. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd

    Abstract
In this research, we investigate the effect of alkali metal cations including Li, Na and Cs in hydrothermal solution on the morphology, stability, and photoactivity of nanostructured TiO2 nanoflakes as a photoanode. The TiO2 nanoflakes are formed through hydrothermal treatment of Ti foil in 1.0 M LiOH, NaOH or CsOH at 100 °C for 3 h. By subsequent thermal reduction of the structure in an optimized Ar/H2 environment, conductive TiO2 nanoflakes were formed. The reduction treatment remarkably improves the photocurrent density of the TiO2 nanoflakes and has the highest impact on the sample treated in the NaOH alkali solution. For the nanoflakes produced in NaOH alkali solution, the bandgap is...

    Abstract
In this study, we investigate the use of catalytic copper-silver-palladium substrates for the growth of multiwalled carbon nanotubes via the thermal chemical vapor deposition. These layers are comprised of nanocrystals of Cu2O, CuO, Ag, Pd, Cu, and PdO and were grown using a DC magnetron sputtering method. Scanning electron microscopy characterizations confirmed the significant growth of carbon nanotubes on the catalytic layer. A comparison of the growth of nanotubes indicated that the thickness of the catalytic layers has a significant impact on the quality and the diameter of the carbon nanotubes. Two major peaks were seen in the Raman spectrum. The formation of graphite multiwalled...

Fabrication of high conductivity TiO2/Ag fibrous electrode by the electrophoretic deposition method

    , Article Journal of Physical Chemistry C ; Volume 112, Issue 47 , 2008 , Pages 18686-18689 ; 19327447 (ISSN) Hosseini, Z ; Taghavinia, N ; Sharifi, N ; Chavoshi, M ; Rahman, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
TiO2 deposited on a membrane of Ag fibers was prepared as a photoelectrochemical cell electrode. Ag fibers were made by reduction of Ag complexes on cellulose fibers, followed by burning out the template. TiO 2 photocatalyst layers were grown on the fibers by electrophoretic deposition of TiO2 nanoparticles. Ag fibers could be uniformly deposited. Photocatalytic tests by dye decomposition and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) under UV illumination demonstrate that Ag fibers act as a good substrate that provides both high surface area and good separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and causes the enhancement of photocatalytic activity in comparison with a thin film of...

    Abstract
Apatite-coated Ag/AgBr/TiO2 was prepared by deposition of Ag as novel metal to generate electron-hole pairs by extending the excitation wavelength to the visible-light region, AgBr, and hydroxy apatite as photosensitive material and adsorption bioceramic, respectively. The energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry clearly showed the presence of Ti, Ag, Ca, and P elements on the surface of catalyst. The bactericidal experiments in dark media indicated that only the novel catalyst shows inhibiting growth of bacteria in this case. A transmission electron microscopy image illustrated that catalyst nanoparticles adhere to the outer membrane of the cell and act as an inhibitor to the nourishment of...
