  8. Kanban inventory system has been applied as a tool of implementing lean production and just in time philosophy since three decades ago. By implementing kanban in supply chain which consist of suppliers , producers , distributors and consumers, real information of demands transfers upstream and materials flows downstream and integrated supply chain can be optained. Therefore a lot of mathematical models for optimizing kanban inventory system in supply chain has been developed to implement just in time philosophy and reduce total inventory cost in supply chain systems this research consist of two main section. In the first section , kanban and supply chain primary concepts are reviewed and mixed integer non linear mathematical model which are developed for muti stage and assembly type supply chain system are examined also. This section continues with developing and implementing a new heuristic algorithm to avoid the large computational time in branch-and-bound algorithm for solving large assembly type supply chain system mathematical models. In the second section a new expanded mathematical models is developed to consider shortage costs in order to expand inventory policy in the muti stage and assembly type supply chain system. Also a new heuristic algorithm which is developed in first section is applied to solve this problem to avoid the large computational time in branch-and-bound algorithm. To test developed heuristic algorithem goodness, twenty five instances are generated randomly and are solved by heuristic and compared by optimal solution of relaxed variables. The results indicates that the heuristic performs well for the supply chain system
