  7. Abstract:
  8. Airport Traffic Control Towers (ATCTs) are among the most critical structures in an airport that are expected to keep their level of serviceability after severe strong earthquakes. Therefore analysis and design of these structures need a detailed investigation on the seismic behavior of the structure based on the structural characteristics. In this study three different existing reinforced concrete ATCTs have been investigated. As important parameters of earthquake design of structures, response modification factor (R-factor) of these towers will be determined. R-factor reduces elastic force level to design force level and contains the effect of ductility, overstrength. In Iranian seismic code (2800) the value of R-factor is suggested equal to 5 for all of structures with distributed mass, like ATCTs. In this study incremental static inelastic analysis (pushover analysis) is utilized. To compare the effect of load distribution, three different lateral load patterns have been considered for pushover analysis. Due to the ability of PERFORM-3D program to assign nonlinear analysis for shear walls, this program has been chosen to analysis ATCTs. Calculated R-factor shows that the value of R-factor is not equal for all ATCTs and depends on height and structural period of ATCTs. The value of R-factor reduces in taller structures, so taller ATCTs structure should design for higher base shear force
