  7. Abstract:
  8. The fiber-reinforced composite materials are used widely because of their high strength-to-density and stiffness-to-density ratios. The laminated composites are susceptible to delamination. When a delaminated composite plate is subjected to in-plane compression, buckling in the delaminated region may occur. In this thesis, after verification and validation of the models, the effect of the length of the longest and near surface delamination and beneath delaminations on critical buckling load of composite laminates are investigated. Numerical study is carried out to determine the buckling load of clamped composite plates with different symmetric and anti symmetric stacking sequences. The computation has been conducted for eigen value buckling and nonlinear buckling analysis using a commercial finite element method program. The results indicate that the critical buckling load depends on the fiber orientation for the case that the lengths of inner delaminations are shorter than the length of the outer delamination. The inner delaminations have no significant effects on the critical buckling load. However, the size of the beneath delaminations significantly change the critical buckling load of the composite laminate as compared to the single delaminated composite plates. Also it can be seen that the (0 ο,90 ο,0 ο,90 ο,0 ο,90 ο,0 ο,90 ο)s plates have a more reliable buckling load. The results indicate that for all multiple delamination specimens, the buckling loads of anti-symmetric plates are higher than the symmetric plates.
