  7. Abstract:
  8. Micro Combine Heat and Power (Micro CHP) systems are one of the most important devices for energy saving that produce heat and power with the use of natural gas or other fuels. This research presents technical and economical feasible study of using Micro CHPs in different climatic zones of Iran. In order to economic studies in different climates of Iran, these zones are categorized in to five; Tehran, Rasht, Bandar Abase, Ardebil and Yazd, based on weather condition. Specifications of each zone, such as heating and cooling degree days and other parameters that are required for estimating energy consumption is determined. The calculation of energy consumption has been conducted based upon thermal load factor, heating and cooling degree days. By making the use of economic model, both amounts of annual energy savings and percentage of system profitability in each region have been calculated as well as reduction in annual emissions. The results have shown that Ardebil has the highest amount of yearly energy saving (38 million Rail in the year) and Bandar abase has the minimum amount of energy saving (2.5 million Rail in the year). After that a mixed integer nonlinear programming model has been developed. The model reports the optimal CHP system capacities that customers could employ given their electricity and thermal requirements. Moreover, a sensitive analysis was elaborated which indicated that optimal value of CHP capacity is sensitive to capital cost, energy prices (including gas and electricity price), as well as the electricity buyback. Reducing gas price and increasing electricity price is a effective way for expanded use of these systems. Also, an optimal storage tank can extent the operating time of the CHP plant, in addition a Time Of Use (TOU) tariff structure will almost always result in a larger cost saving ratio
