  7. Abstract:
  8. Nowadays, a large proportion of the power consumption in high-performance multi-processor architectures on chip belongs to connections. Reducing power consumption while maintaining high efficiency in these architectures is one of the main concerns. Networks on Chip (NoC) originally were introduced to improve efficiency, but now, given the importance of power, we must provide some solutions to reduce power consumption, and delay in NOCs. Connections in chip can be divided into three categories: global, intermediate and local, while the length of global connections is almost constant in different scales, local connections are scalable. As a result improving efficiency of a small number of critical global connections can cause significantly improvement in system performance. By using the capability of optical connections to reduce power consumption and increase efficiency, a new architecture (Optical NoC) can be defined that would be able to offer the benefits of optical signals and optical elements in chip. In this thesis, by applying changes to the WK-Recursive topology we made this topology suitable for optical network on chip, and then we designed a new communication structure using modified topology. Our goal is employing new topology in Optical Network On Chip. In order to evaluate our ONoC, first we implemented a simulator according to the proposed structure at the behavioral level, and then we compared it in terms of power consumption and delay with similar ENoC (Electrical NoC), in 22 nm technology. In comparison to a traditional NoC, the proposed NoC leads to about 4.1 and 85.97 times smaller average latency and power consumption, respectively
