  7. Abstract:
  8. It is about half century passed from the invention and application of the polymer flooding. Although there are successful reports from the using polymer flooding, but there are problems that in some cases this process fails. For more insight on the problems and in order to improve
the efficiency of this process the conceptual understanding of the process is required. More conceptual understanding from this process, requires investigation in pore scale. In the presenting investigation, the flow of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in the single phase and two phase form and in pore scale are simulated using finite volume method. Because, the finite volume method is used in very applications and it is capable for dealing with complex geometries of porous media capillaries and it preserves overall conservation of conservative quantities. This research has been done in two major sections. In the first section the prepared software and the numerical method have been validated and in the second section the effects of the non-Newtonian fluids on the oil sweeping from the dead ends have been investigated. The validation has been done in two sections, single phase and two phase flows. In the single phase section the validity of the prepared software encountering simulation of non-Newtonian fluids has been investigated and in the two phase section the validity of the prepared software dealing with surface tension and contact angel has been checked. The valuation of the ability of non-Newtonian fluids to extract the oil from the dead end, has been investigated in two sections, single and two phase flows. In the single phase section, the flows of non-Newtonian fluids passing through the channel that is connected to a dead end have been simulated and the tendency of such fluids to enter the dead end, a way from the effects of the surface tension have been investigated. In the two phase section the effects of the density and viscosity difference and the surface tension along with the effects of non- Newtonian fluids on the extracting oil from the dead ends have been investigated and theability of polymer flooding dealing with the fingering problem has been studied
