  7. Abstract:
  8. Membrane fouling is the main cause of permeate flux decline and loss of product quality in reverse osmosis (RO) systems, so good pretreatment of the feed solution was required to prevent membrane fouling. One of the most common applied pretreatment methods to prevent or control the scaling of different salts in feed water is to add scale inhibitors. Due to the great variety of commercial scale inhibitors RO plant operators must evaluate these chemicals before use in real plants. In this project three different types of antiscalants at concentrations of 10 ppm and one type of magnetic descaler on the RO pilot for the R.O plant feed water of agro-industrial Hakim Farabi evaluated and function of time was recorded. The evaluated parameters for each antiscalant are conductivity, pH, total hardness, and alkalinity for permeate and feed flow and salt rejection. A performance comparison was also made between them. Antiscalant Genesys LF, had better performance. The use of alum coagulation prior to reverse osmosis treatment has been shown to be problematic because of high amount of residual aluminum creation. To replace Alum with PACl, due to low residual aluminum, a series of jar testes was done in the aim of comparing PACl with alum and ferric chloride for turbidity removal from raw water of agro-industrial Hakim Farabi water treatment plant. Optimum concentration in turbidity removal of alum and ferric chloride was 25 ppm but for PACl was 10 ppm. Injection of 0.5 ppm anionic polyelectrolyte reduced the optimum concentration of PACl to 8ppm and formed larger flocculants. And with calibration of chemical dosing pumps it was tried to prevent high concentrations injection of chemicals, avoiding excess spending and less fecal contamination to environment
