  7. Abstract:
  8. Different structural systems have been declared and used in recent decades. To identify more about their performance, it's crucial that while evaluating their characteristic, the effect of miscellaneous natural phenomena would be evaluated. One of these phenomena is SSI or Soil effect actively on the structure performance. As modeling has serious effect on the results precision related with SSI effect, usage of 3D Models those that are more compatible with the real ones is important. So, in this research two 2 and 5 story building possessing real dimension in the format of 3D-Modeling with all effective details were modeled by finite element method. For seismic analysis, 7 couple records adopted from FEMA P695 were chosen and applied in DBE and MCE levels. Results showed that in both models dominant damage has been occurred in first story besides the system fails in shear mode. On the other hand, results of push over analysis showed that opening in this system reduces stiffness and increases ductility leading the structural system to act considerably better. To consider SSI effect, soil that is at the bottom of the foundation was considered one time a hard type (C) and another time, a ductile type (D). When the soil is hard, practically no change was observed while presuming a ductile soil the SSI caused reduction of 1th story drift about 10% for both models, reduction of base shear story about 30% for 2-story model and increase of base shear about 10% for 5-story model. In addition by augmentation of earthquake level from 1 to 2, the amount of 1th story drift reduction changes from 10% to 15%. In another step, more openings were added to the models and by the help of Endurance Time Method, failure mode of the buildings in all seismic levels was evaluated. It was reported that this time SSI caused increase of 1th story drift in both models. Hence, as the results of SSI effect do not have a definite approach on the system performance, considering SSI effect in this structural system plays a significant role and should be applied in modeling these kind of structures
