  8. The objective of this research is to develop a mathematical model for analysis and design of airport cities. In this model, the interactions among the elements of an airport city -regarded as a complex system- will be analyzed, and the impact of the stakeholders’ requirements on the functional and physical architecture of the airport city will be investigated. So as the first step, the stakeholders of the system and their requirements are identified and classified. Second, the concept of operation of the airport city is investigated, and then the architecture of the system is modeled as a queuing network. So that each element of the airport city is regarded as a service center, including the airside elements such as runway, taxiway and aprons, and landside elements like terminals, hotels, shopping centers, parks and hospitals. Aircraft, passengers, and airport personnel are the inputs and outputs of the network of service centers, who will be modeled as intelligent agents, deciding at each node of the network about their next desirable service centers. The input/output dependencies among different service centers will be captured in a Design Structure Matrix (DSM) framework. A clustering algorithm will then be used to minimize the total waiting time and the queue length of the network. The clusters then help defining the proposed physical architecture of the airport city. The architecture of Amsterdam Schiphol will be analyzed as case study
