  7. Abstract:
  8. Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is remarkable since its mechanical properties, chemical stability and significant ferroelectricity. This Polymer has a simple chemical structure and can be found in five different crystal phases (α,β ,ɣ,δ and ε). Between these phases, beta shows a substantial pyro and piezoelectric activity since its great dipole moment. In this study PVDF/Poly(vinyl acetate)/Nanodiamond (ND) nanocomposite films were synthetized by solving in dimethylformamide adding ND particles to PVDF/PVAc blend in order to improve mechanical and piezoelectric properties. Scanning electron microscopy results showed that PVDF/PVAc are miscible and lead to a single crystal phase and dispersion of nanoparticles is observed in films. Changes in melting point and crystallinity was studied by differential scanning calorimetry test which showed an increase in the melting and crystallization temperature since the addition of nanodiamond and the rise of β phase. Results of tensile test showed that nanodiamond improved elastic modulus and tensile strength of PVDF films up to 128% and 87% and PVAc significantly enhanced its elongation because of PVAc’s amorphous nature. Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy revealed that the addition of nanodiamond decreases the transmission of light to zero in ultraviolet range. FTIR and XRD shows that all of α, β and γ phases are present in nanocomposites.Nanodiamond in the role of nucleating agent increases crystallization rate which leads to greater β phase percentage and degree of crystallinity
